Let's start with manny, and the "I'm not sure which knee hurts so let's MRI both"

http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2008/07/31/so_manny_memories/
Then things started to happen. On a night when the Celtics were playing the Lakers in the NBA Finals, Manny slapped Kevin Youkilis, igniting a dugout scuffle. On June 29, Ramirez attacked 64-year-old traveling secretary Jack McCormick when the club official said he might have difficulty satisfying Manny's exorbitant, last-minute ticket request. The club sanctioned Ramirez privately, but there was no suspension. A week later, manager Terry Francona sent Manny up to pinch hit against Yankees ace Mariano Rivera. It was Manny's day off, and the slugger appeared totally disinterested, looking at three strikes without removing the bat from his shoulder.

Everyone in the clubhouse knows the names. Joba Chamberlain (twice), Felix Hernandez (twice), Edinson Volquez, Justin Verlander -- pitchers that Manny Ramirez didn't feel quite right to face, be it a knee, a hamstring, his contract or the pitcher's velocity, and those he left for someone else in the Red Sox "family" to face0 -
Jose Contreras, and the trashed hotel room:
http://espn.go.com/mlb/columns/klapisch_bob/1482819.html
Quite the contrary, the Yankees said. It was the Red Sox who, if they didn't break industry rules, went to bizarre extremes to ensure a negotiating edge. Bomber officials said Boston's entourage booked every available hotel room in Managua, Nicaragua, where talks were being held -- hoping to monopolize Contreras and his agent Jaime Torres long enough to sway the pitcher to Fenway.
It didn't work. As Yankees GM Brian Cashman put it, "we were told by both the player and the agent that they wanted this negotiation concluded before Christmas, and that Contreras wanted to be a Yankee. Obviously, we're happy to have him."
Upon learning of Contreras' decision, Boston GM Theo Epstein reportedly broke a window and a door in the same Managua hotel. Team spokesman Kevin Shea denied the incident ever occurred. But, according to the New York Daily News, Epstein broke a chair during the winter meetings in Nashville after realizing free agent Edgardo Alfonzo had chosen the Giants over the Red Sox.

It was just four years ago that the Sox were outbid by the Yankees in the infamous, furniture-busting Jose Contreras sweepstakes at the Hotel Campo Real in Nicaragua. You might remember Lucchino saying, "The Evil Empire extends its tentacles even into Latin America." The comment triggered new levels of hostility in the ancient rivalry.0 -

Does anyone think that Joba (assuming he can return) will pitch anywhere but the bullpen for the rest of this season? I'd be shocked if he started a game before spring training 09.
Yanks are 4-2 since Matsui's return.
While checking out the standings today it looks like 3 of the International League Playoff teams will be Scranton (Yanks), Durham (Rays), and Pawtucket (Sox). I think that's good news for all 3 of the parent teams. I'm hoping Scranton plays a couple of games here against the Bulls. Maybe a Phil Hughes vs David Price pitching matchup.Brian0 -
August 25, 2008 --
IT would be tough for average Joes to beat a couple of Yankees at baseball, but slamming them in a game of beer pong was no sweat. Last week, Jason Giambi and Joba Chamberlain were celebrating their win against the Kansas City Royals at Southern Hospitality, on Second Avenue, when a table of fans challenged them to a game of the college drinking sport. Our spy said, "The fans gave them a beating. Toward the end Chamberlain and Giambi got really competi tive, but it wasn't enough."

I know the offense has been hitting well as of late. But I think Nady should br batting 5th behind A-Rod. Or maybe have Alex at 3rd and Abreu 4th.I miss igotid880

I like the idea of nady 5th. You lose the lefty/righty/lefty combo of Abreu/ARod/Giambi, which makes it difficult for managers to maneuver their bullpens late, but I think it's worth the tradeoff, with Nady being such a better hitter than Giambi. If Cano ever gets his act together, maybe he could hit 5th, to keep that L/R/L thing going. Not gonna happen this year though0 -

Between this and Mets/Phillies, it'll be an exciting few days for NY baseball0 -
It starts tonight. The season is on the line.
Wakefield is 9-17 vs. the Yanks over his career and is coming off the DL. This sounds like a good way to start the series. Gotta execute and hit the baseball though.Brian0 -

the K was the ump calling a ball a strike. And he was playing deep on weak grounder. Even they said there was nothing he could do. Damn umpire squeezing Pettitte.I miss igotid880 -
a-rod didn't stand a chance on those ground balls.
damon needs to hit homeruns with guys on base.
pettitte got squeezed.
