    yeah but it's Jorgie. Switch hitting and his hot bat, and he swings for power. If it goes extras he should be in there. Plus he's like one of the leaders on the field.

    It's just a big deal for them to get the win and he got a little cranky I think. He was probably still peeved at himself for that base running blunder.

    Yep, had tickets to it. Was so pissed I didn't go to it because I didn't feel like sitting in the rain.

    Stayed up though watching it all night.

    The best part of it was the debate after the game. It was a twilight doubleheader (back when they still existed ... lol) and afterwards it was supposed to be fireworks night. So the Phillies and the city were trying to decide whether or not to still have fireworks night at 4:45 am, but ultimately they decided to postpone it because they were afraid local residents near the stadium would think the stadium was under attack ;)

    A couple years ago on fireworks night, the Phils lost to the Orioles in 16 innings at home and shot fireworks off at 2 am.

    They never seem to have luck on fireworks night with getting the game done on time ... lol

    remember who got the game-winning hit? i had no idea but was amazed when i looked at the box.

    i sort of remember the 1985 mets-braves game that went 18 innings I think and they actually set off the fireworks at 4 am.

    One other footnote on the 4:30 am game. There were more people there at the end of the game then when the first pitch was thrown about 1 am. The bars closed at 2 and people saw the game was still being played on tv and just drove to the stadium and went in for free. So there was a decent sized crowd there for the game when it ended 4:30 ... probably more than the average Devil Rays home game.

    Yep, I'll never forget it either. Mitch Williams the "Wild Thing" himself hit a walkoff single to win the game off Trevor Hoffman of all people.

    that's kind of surprising since the game only went 10. usually you see that stuff happen in the really long games, but it looks like jim fregosi went through all his position players.

    Kruk had a great quote after the game - (I'm paraphrasing because it is 14 years ago) "Once the game went past 4 am, we knew we had an advantage. Half our team is usually just getting home from going out and hitting the bars so we were still wide awake while we could see the Padres were exhausted."

    sounds about right for that bunch. i'm looking on retrosheet and this amuses me, less than a week later williams coughs up a 5-3 lead to the dodgers in the ninth and the game winds up going 20 innings.

    Yep, that was just a crazy season in Philly. It was the last season and the first half of 94 that Philly was still a baseball town. Philly was a baseball town until Buddy Ryan showed up. Since then with the exception of 93 it's all football all the time down here.

    that's always amazed me how the phillies and mets have never really been good at the same time while the other philly teams have been good at the same time as their new york rivals and that's even the sixers back in the day.
