It's hilarious to me that somebody so ignorant can so confidently bash this crap out on the keyboard from day to day. Canada actually sacrificed a higher percentage of the population to the war than the US did. Of course we fought throughout the whole war though, so I guess those numbers are inflated. All that red, white and blue rah rah rah bullshit that you get fed from diapers really skews your perspective on the world.
I have to know: where did you get the idea that the US saved the Allies ass? Do yourself a favour and read about the Soviet Union's "contributions" to the war and then come back and tell me that the states won the war.
The difference between now (Iraq) and then (WW2) is that "then" was a worthy cause. The US fought for 2 years in WW2 to help stop a maniac who was hell bent to create his own world. It's been 4 years in Iraq now, and what have you accomplished? Fuck all - that's what.
And to stay on topic, Jesus and his fundamentalist followers are just as fucked up as Mohammed and his fundamentalist followers. I wished that I lived 1000 years from now, so I could live in a time where religion is obsolete.
Oh my...there it is.
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.
We can agree that they are linked but if you are able to generate nuclear power then you only have part of the technology. Its no where near "easy" to generate the bomb from there. Even if you had all the manuals and materials you'll still need to replicate it and science isn't a thumb click.

ok but if i ever hear something contradictionary to your statement i will have to come back here.
If you are going to talk WW2, you should probably broaden your knowledge of the events beyond watching Saving Private Ryan 10 times. Nobody would ever say that the US did shit, because it is widely acknowledged that they were instrumental in ending the war pretty quickly. However, to think that the US saved any Allied ass in that war is wrong. If I were American, I would be ashamed that it took so long to even get involved in the war.
The Russians willingness to shovel Russian after Russian into the fire on the Eastern Front tied up most of the German army and allowed the Allies (you know, the countries who fought the Germans for the whole war and the US) some slack in their advance into Europe.
I hate taking anything away from anybody who fought in that war, but it really irks me when even one stupid American thinks that they won the war by themselves.
I'm pretty sure his point was that the world couldn't have won the war without the US. Not that we single handedly won the war, just that if we didn't come to the aid of Europe, the Axis powers would have won. That's all, and I see no grounds to dispute that.
Considering the vast majority of the war did not take place on our soil, yet we still rallied to help the allies is a source of pride. I see no reason for that to be wrong.
according to the article, the kids chose the name mohammed after one kid in the class. who in their right mind would ever think that would be a problem?
Don't get me wrong I don't agree with it in any way. As I said its pathetic and I think they need to remove the log lodged up their ass. But if I were to choose to live in a country that I know follows strict laws, I would learn everything about the law that could put me in trouble. I'm sure in her case she will forever read her embassies "travel tips" whenever she travels (not only live) somewhere. In Australia they call it smart traveller and theres a government website for it.

Talk about ignorance... the US fought more than 2 years in WWII - and yes that includes the European theater. We lost over 8,000 merchant marines in the battle for the atlantic, trying to keep Britain from falling to the Germans.
However, 810 does piss me off becuase the Canadiens stormed the beaches of Normandy shoulder to shoulder with Americans.

KHARTOUM, Sudan — Thousands of Sudanese, many armed with clubs and knives, rallied Friday in a central square and demanded the execution of a British teacher convicted of insulting Islam for allowing her students to name a teddy bear "Muhammad."
The protesters streamed out of mosques after Friday sermons, as pickup trucks with loudspeakers blared messages against Gillian Gibbons, the teacher who was sentenced Thursday to 15 days in prison and deportation. She avoided the more serious punishment of 40 lashes.
They massed in central Martyrs Square, outside the presidential palace, where hundreds of riot police were deployed, although they did not try to stop the rally.
"Shame, shame on the U.K.," protesters chanted.
They called for Gibbons' execution, saying, "No tolerance: Execution," and "Kill her, kill her by firing squad."
The women's prison where Gibbons is being held is far from the site. Unity High School, which is closer by in central Khartoum, is under heavy security protection.
The protest arose despite vows by Sudanese security officials the day before, during Gibbons' trial, that threatened demonstrations after Friday prayers would not take place. Some of the protesters carried green banners with the name of the Society for Support of the Prophet Muhammad, a previously unknown group.
Many protesters carried clubs, knives and axes - but not automatic weapons, which some have brandished at past government-condoned demonstrations. That suggested Friday's rally was not organized by the government.
A Muslim cleric at Khartoum's main Martyrs Mosque denounced Gibbons during one sermon, saying she intentionally insulted Islam. He did not call for protests, however.
"Imprisoning this lady does not satisfy the thirst of Muslims in Sudan. But we welcome imprisonment and expulsion," the cleric, Abdul-Jalil Nazeer al-Karouri, a well-known hard-liner, told worshippers.
"This an arrogant woman who came to our country, cashing her salary in dollars, teaching our children hatred of our Prophet Muhammad," he said.
Britain, meanwhile, pursued diplomatic moves to free Gibbons. Prime Minister Gordon Brown spoke with a member of her family to convey his regret, his spokeswoman said.
"He set out his concern and the fact that we were doing all we could to secure her release," spokeswoman Emily Hands told reporters.
Most Britons expressed shock at the verdict by a court in Khartoum, alongside hope it would not raise tensions between Muslims and non-Muslims in Britain.
"One of the good things is the U.K. Muslims who've condemned the charge as completely out of proportion," said Paul Wishart, 37, a student in London.
"In the past, people have been a bit upset when different atrocities have happened and there hasn't been much voice in the U.K. Islamic population, whereas with this, they've quickly condemned it."
Muhammad Abdul Bari, secretary-general of the Muslim Council of Britain, accused the Sudanese authorities of "gross overreaction."
"This case should have required only simple common sense to resolve. It is unfortunate that the Sudanese authorities were found wanting in this most basic of qualities," he said.
The Muslim Public Affairs Committee, a political advocacy group, said the prosecution was "abominable and defies common sense."
Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, spiritual leader of the world's 77 million Anglicans, said Gibbons' prosecution and conviction was "an absurdly disproportionate response to what is at worst a cultural faux pas."
Foreign Secretary David Miliband summoned the Sudanese ambassador late Thursday to express Britain's disappointment with the verdict. The Foreign Office said Britain would continue diplomatic efforts to achieve "a swift resolution" to the crisis.
Gibbons was arrested Sunday after another staff member at the school complained that she had allowed her 7-year-old students to name a teddy bear Muhammad. Giving the name of the Muslim prophet to an animal or a toy could be considered insulting.
The case put Sudan's government in an embarrassing position - facing the anger of Britain on one side and potential trouble from powerful Islamic hard-liners on the other. Many saw the 15-day sentence as an attempt to appease both sides.
In The Times, columnist Bronwen Maddox said the verdict was "something of a fudge ... designed to give a nod to British reproof but also to appease the street."
Britain's response - applying diplomatic pressure while extolling ties with Sudan and affirming respect for Islam - had produced mixed results, British commentators concluded.
In an editorial, The Daily Telegraph said Miliband "has tiptoed around the case, avoiding a threat to cut aid and asserting that respect for Islam runs deep in Britain. Given that much of the government's financial support goes to the wretched refugees in Darfur and neighboring Chad, Mr. Miliband's caution is understandable."
Now, however, the newspaper said, Britain should recall its ambassador in Khartoum and impose sanctions on the Sudanese regime.
Americans who say stuff like 'you'd be saying heil Hitler' or 'you'd be speaking German right now' are, imo, ignorant idiots who have no real idea of what happened during World War II. It's not even worth debating these guys.
i rather doubt there's a section in any book that says "don't let your kids name a teddy bear in class mohammed." even if someone had read the laws, there is no way in a million years anyone would dream it would apply to this situation.

We all know that if you live in a foreign country you have to abide by local laws and customs, but what pisses me off is that in this country we bend over backwards to accomodate the needs of people from all nationalities, religions and beliefs, yet this generosity is not returned when our people visit their country. Just go to speakers corner in Hyde Park, these morons will slag off Uk and US soliders and whats happens to them???...Nothing!!! Sickens me.

yes, but we pride ourselves on being understanding and democratic country, god forbid if anyone from our government speaks something otherwise.
i do understand your point, but i don't think that just because we are generous in our country to everyone that people should in turn be generous to us. we can't do someone a favor and expect something in return

You lumped the whole middle-east into a "potential breeding ground for terrorists". To get an opinion you shouldn't go visit the most extreme part and make an opinion. It's hard for opinions to change when you already have preconceived ideas.

Do you not think the centuries of Western interference in their lands has anything to do with this? Just because you treat immigrants like you treat natives (which is bullshit) doesn't mean they will just forget you used to buy and sell them not too long ago. Its more deep-seeded.

but don't you worry my "preconveived ideas" do change if i see that i'm wrong.
but then it's very hard to make a choice isn't it? do you know who bombed London underground? one of them was a normal teacher and a family man, another was a good student......it's very hard to make a decision when everything is nothing as it seems to be.

And all the serial killers that seem to be normal people? Your soldiers that are sent to these places and are able to drop bombs on civilians? Does that make you live in fear of befriending your fellow country men?
I see no difference between terrorism and killing civilians in a corrupt war. If I was having this discussion with an Iraqi who lost his family and house from coalition bombing and is in fear of the West and lumps them all in the "Evil" category I would tell him exactly the same thing.

but anyway i rest my case, i've got to do some damn work now.
do you know that Quaran, the holy book of islam, claims that it cannot be changed anyway, not even a word of it, because it is Allah's word and Allah protects it from being changed. Here is the perfect religion for you, with the personal insurance of god himself but still results speak louder than the cause.
I still say, welcome to atheism. I am stubborn bastard
How are we to know centuries later that what is written in the Qu'ran is excatly what Allah said. That is my point, none of us in this day and age know what the original teachings where of the founders of these religions. Over time mankind has changed the teaching to the point where the original text no longer exists.
I do not suscribe to any organized religion simply because mankind has corrupted them all. None of them are pure anymore, morphed and rewritten to fit what those in power want it to say. Even atheism in itself is a belief. A belief in no god, but a beliefs just like Islam, Christianity, Judaism, etc...

Nothing in our existance is perfect, that includes religion, but if we are solely focusing on what is to blame for the oppression in the Middle East let's say religion is not the culprit. It is manking with all of our flaws and imperfections that has taken something that can be a source of hope and peace and preverted it into a tool of oppression and hatred.

yeah right, i'm soooo ashamed...by the way canada really kicked some ass over there...y'all should be so proud...we had ended it before you got your soldiers unfrozen. you guys even have soldiers, or do y'all just throw snowballs at the bad guys?
i watched private ryan once, just so you know
it's the same old shit...we waited too long then - so now we don't fuck around, get in the middle of the shit, and we should be ashamed of that too.
America, the only place where no matter what you do, it's wrong.
Actually Canadien soldier fought during D-Day. I believe it was either Juno or Gold Beach that was taken primarily by Canadien forces. You grasp of history is either extremely lacking or you are just trolling. Either way it's just sad.
