" Homosexuality is punishable by death in the Islamic Republic."
I suspect they have just as many homosexuals in Iran, as in America or anywhere else. But how many homosexuals are going to admit being homosexuals, if they know they will be punished by death? How many will take any chances of engaging in intercourse or any intimate behavior?
Sheesh, Ahmadinejad and his spin machine are making themselves look even more foolish and absurd.

Christianity does not condone homosexuality either btw. They leave it up to god for the homosexuals to burn and suffer in hell forever.
And that is one reason I would never consider that if I was shopping for a religion. But if you are not a Christian, then you don't need to belive that and it can't get you around the fact that the US does not kill people for being gay and Iran does.
I cannot come up with a new sig till I get this egg off my face.
I don't see a difference. Both would be dispicable.
You do realize the deaths due to each is quite disproportionate in scale.

you mean christians actually leave the judging up to God? Wow, thats exactly what they should do. If only real christians were that holy (because most do judge for themselves), we would be a lot better off.
what is my solution to what? Iran killing gays? I dont have one. should I ?
I don't have a course of action. should I?
what are you trying to get at....me saying I support military action against Iran? I don't.
I trust you can see that a lot of people do though.

wow, what an interesting thread...I'm pretty sure the point of the original post was to point out that big Mak was misquoted...
now it's a My country treats gays better than your country sort of conversation...
as for the original point pertaining to the misquote...one should wonder how often things get lost in translation...
Is their any proof beyond the words of IRANS PRESIDENTIAL MEDIA ADVISOR that he was misquoted?
Was he denying the persecution of gays because their aren't that many , or was he denying the persecution of gays because their are no gays at all? Either way, he still looks like an asshole.
I'll probably take some heat from some of my fellow left-leaning posters, but I feel the need to address this as I have been seeing this trend in several threads.
I feel that US foreign policy is very objectionable and it continues the cycle of violence we see throughout the world. I love the principles my country was founded on and I feel it is my country's responsibility to live up to a particular standard. Lately, it seems to me we have failed time and time again. This is not to say that my country has not done and accomplished wonderful things.
That said, I have a problem uplifting questionable men(or women or countries) in order to make the US look 'bad'. It frankly is not needed as each reprehensible action stands on its own. Is is possible that we can express disdain for US foreign policy and the current administration and also feel that Ahmadinejad is 'not a very nice guy'?

If pretty much everyone in America was a devout hardcore Christian, you don't think there would be serious repercussions for being gay?
Go back about 150-200 years ago, and you pretty much get the same deal in the US.

Answer my question then. What is your solution? What is your course of action to this intolerance?
I say we send over some male Interior Decorators, with some lovely and tasteful chiffon evening dresses, curtains, colorful throw pillows; and redecorate the whole place.
So in your mind, the death of the few (the homosexuals) is a sacrifice, for the good of the many.
What?! No. Bombs droppin in Iraq v.s. Iranians dying for their sexuality.....slight discrepancy there.

no, roland started to make this an anti american/christianity problem when it was proven to him that Iran does in fact execute people for being gay.
