I don't owe you anything. You have no claim on me. That is the guilt trip you attempt to lay on us. Find some other sucker.

You're polluting my world and plundering it's natural resources. You owe the world a big debt. It's all about give and take.
Not that Britain is innocent of course. But relatively speaking, the U.S has a lot to answer for.

Not me personally. I thought we were talking about nations. I personally owe you (byrnzie) nothing, and this nation owes you (the world) nothing. If you (the world or byrnzie) disagree, you (the world or byrnzie) can try to back up your claim with action. You (the world or byrnzie) will find that to be a losing proposition.

Now that doesn't mean we can't be good world citizens, clean up some of our bad habits, help who we choose to help. But nobody has claim on us.

I think all industrialized nations owe the world - the third world particularly - a debt.

Tahiti doesn't use up a quarter of the worlds resources, and cause 25% of the worlds pollution.

    http://atlas.aaas.org/index.php?part=2

The US uses roughly one-fourth of all energy resources (round up to 100 QBTU), with roughly 5% of the world population (300 mil out of 6 bil). To bring the rest of the world to this level of energy consumption you would need 95/5* 100 = 1900 QBTU yearly, roughly four times the present production.

I.e, It would take 4 more Earths for the rest of the world to have a standard of living equivalent to the USA.

The U.S is also responsible for 25% of the worlds pollution.

Therefore, you owe the rest of the world a sizable debt.

holy shit! no dude, we give because we can - not because we owe - the left wants us to feel guilty about being successful - bullshit

I like this attitude. Your country is having enough trouble securing ONE country that barely had an army, you think it can take on the whole world? If such a thing happens be sure that everyone loses.

i don't want to speak for jeffbr - but here i go anyway.

i think he's talking about an attack on us by an army (not some pussies in some airplanes) a real army - we would be forced to grind their asses to dust.

on the other hand if byrnzie himself want to come here and demand money from us, well, that would just be funny!

First, I like how you discretely make the link between September 11 and Iraq. They are not the same. I hope you have already realised that by now.

Second, I think you did not see "the world" in his post. He meant THE WORLD.

No but I did and you quoted me.

I believe he was the one saying it not me. Byrnzie said "the world" would come to collect. The guy said "the world" would be on the losing side.

I don't see where this is going.. I shall do more work..

ok, a little lost - yep i quoted you - because i didn't say anything about iraq...

so if the THE WORLD comes to collect, shit will fly. pretty simple

oh yeah - that is based on the assumption we owe THE WORLD something - we don't

Well I would thing that British colonialism of Africa and the Middle East is responsible for a great deal of the misery we see in those regions today. So since your country started fucking up first once you guys are done repaying the world for all the fucked up shit your great British Empire unleashed on this world then you can hop across the pond and demand that we start paying up.

Or we could all just give 0.7% of our GDP to help alleviate the suffering of those nations that we plunder in order to maintain our over-inflated standard of living?

Don't be silly. We would have no trouble turning Iraq into a glass beach if that's what we wanted to do. The trouble in Iraq isn't a lack of military might. The trouble in Iraq is that our idiotic administration tried to intervene and force a wholesale political change and thought the country would just go along with it.

And THE WORLD to whom Byrnzie believes we owe a debt is actually just a bunch of 3rd world nations by his own definition. You didn't really think the ENTIRE WORLD would show up here to collect a debt owed, especially since Byrnzie himself said that all industrialized nations owe this debt to the world. So therefore, the way the word world is being used, it is comprised of those nations not industrialized.

But believe this - If a nation showed up on our shores and took any sort of action against us they'd be toast. Don't fool yourself.

Haha, not THE nation! I was a reader of MAD Magazine in my youth, so I liked this poster they made: http://www.thenationmart.com/worryposter.html. I bought one a while ago.

Don't fool myself? You might have the best equipt army in the world but your records in wars over the past 50 years don't allow you to boast as much as you do. If you think you win a war by turning the other country into a glass beach then you are sadly mistaken. But I kinda remember why they'd be toast. Oh yah, you'd nuke them.
