Okay, I'll throw you a bone here and try to answer thoughtfully to the OP.

With the issue of the economy, you think the "Savages who don't know their asses from their elbows" are idiots for not voting Democrat. Well, instead of namecalling and assumptions that any change is good change, you should think about the issue. In the history of the world, we have seen how socialism has ruined economies. We have also seen how tax cuts have spurred on economic growth (1980's and post 2002 - 2005). So, I guess we are savages to think that maybe the current plan is not working well and could use some change (but we still grew 3% last quarter), but don't want to vote for the change the Democrats are proposing because we don't believe that will work either and make things worse than they are now.
Socialism never ruined any economy, unless I missed something? However, Argentina showed that an unbrided economy in the wrong climate could lead to a massive economical breakdown. But that's not the point, the point is an economy is not ruined or successful with just one factor (for example taxes). It's a various mix of factors. For instance democrats will (allegedly - I haven't read the programs) tax more than republicans but may spend less. Who can say for sure which policy will make things worse?
Basically, seeing things from outside the usa (as does the op), I think any change is a good change because many disagree with the us foreing policy while we care much less with your domestic problems.

Thank you! No offense taken. I agree with you. Please feel free to rant anytime.

Sometimes it takes an outside perspective to help show what is happening in our own backyard. Though unfortunately I have found many won't see this as it is right before their eyes and have no objectivity or further experience to weigh, balance or understand what is happening.

    Open questions for all ...

    1) In regards to those who answered on Katrina ...

    a) Did anyone help? Donate money, time or resources?
    b) Do you actually know anyone from New Orleans who experienced this devastation?

    2) I'm curious as to how many posters have actually traveled outside of the US?

    I agree with the OP.

I was going to respond to at least half the posts in this, but then I realized it's pointless. They just don't get it and probably never will. America is no longer the greatest country in the world that other countries look at positively as a free, powerful nation. We're far from it. Now we're looked down upon as a country of ignorant assholes (not trying to be disrespectful or anything because I know some of you will look at that as "name-calling" and will overlook the rest of my post, I'm just saying that's how we're looked at). So I don't understand how people can defend our country and it's policies when it needs to be fixed drastically, and I also don't know why people are so blind to that. Change isn't a bad thing. It's necessary. And I really, REALLY, don't see how anyone can consider McCain. So you liked the last 8 years? You thought Bush did a good job? Because McCain's term is going to be exactly like that.

I did respond to a few and then realized there is no point. I think it may just take a while for things to improve. As generations turn I think.

I for one am glad you posted your rant. I have to confess though that the answers from some of my fellow Americans scare the living shit out of me. Like yourself, I'm apalled at their lack of awareness and ability to get past their own filters. When W was elected the second time, I felt like it was time for me to move to another English speaking country. If McCain gets elected (and I'm sorry if I offend) who in my opinion is just a Bush clone, I'll probably start considering that move again. The ONLY thing that keeps my sanity is living here in Austin-a city of mostly open-minded, intelligent individuals. I lived in Virginia for 9 years and I can tell you from experience, it's not that way there.

Oh, please. If you were scared by the posts here, you really are your namesake.

And I don't believe for a second that you'll move. That's just something that blowhards like Vedder, Penn and Baldwin say. Empty promises.

Like most liberals it is your way or the highway. Eventually you'll get rid of all non-liberal thinkers, by law or persecution I'M SURE. It must be tough to not be able to accept that other folks may have different opinions from you. I'm sorry I don't believe in socialism like you do. I've seen how that outcome works out and it isn't pretty. Sorry to scare you.

Blowhards ... wow. I can't believe the intolerance of some of the folks here, this is just a minor example.

    Unbelievable.

Yes I am a Vedder fan and he is not a blowhard. He is speaking his experience and truth, as many here are.

As Voltaire once stated so eloquently ... "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

Call us all blowhards who want to leave. Geez, Christopher Columbus was probably called a blowhard. And it was the naysayers that followed there after who started the cycle over again. : >

Were he speaking truth he'd have moved. That was the blowhard reference. They get all worked up and threaten to leave the country if so-and-so gets elected.

If you want to leave, just leave. Why would you talk about it and not follow through? If you feel so passionately, then do it. Unless the passion really isn't there, and you're simply being melodramatic.

Don't compare Christopher Columbus, who was an explorer who actually risked his life and followed the dream with a celeb who talks a good game.

Do you not have the ability to discuss or see the views of others without calling folks names cuz you disagree?

Sorry you don't like or agree with my comparison. It is not your right to tell me what to do. Then again, you don't seem to understand this. Your loss.

You're right. Go ahead and compare Vedder with Jesus if you wish. My point remains that people who threaten/promise to leave and then don't are blowhards simply speaking for dramatic effect with no intention to follow through.

Why do you presume I'm a right wing nut? I've travelled, lived and done business in countries outside of North America. I enjoy travel, culture and the global economy. I am simply responding in kind to arrogance of posters presuming that all Americans are dumb, or misguided. Why does this confuse you? When eurotrash call us "iliterate savages who don't know thier asses from their elbows" it will likely bring the responses you're seeing. That's all there is to it. No xenofobia or fear. Just responding to jabs with jabs.

First off I wasn't comparing Eddie to Christoper or anyone else for the fact of the matter. You read it as such. I was using Christopher Columbus as an example. There are many who would like to move from this country due to the extreme manipulation of the current administration. Note, I encourage you to not read into that statement either. I think the original OP stated some very truthful facts whether you can see them or not.

Maybe you and the individuals you hang out with are content with the way things are. I have experienced both sides. Some content, some dismayed and quite a few would like to move.

And please, patience my dear, maybe Ed and folk will move. The verdict hasn't come in yet. So if you could, please hold your "blowhard" judgment til' evidence becomes clearer. Somehow I feel that is asking too much of you.
