Obama will win by a landslide. Fuck polls. Q. Who the hell answers those calls anyway? A. The losers with nothing better to do. Seriously, has anyone ever stayed on the phone with those people long enough to answer the questions? When the people actually go out and vote, it will be dramatically different.
People in America are worried about paying their mortgage, rent, terrorists, cost of oil this winter, groceries, cost of oil this winter, healthcare, daycare, cost of oil this winter. We dont have time to care about anything other than today (thank you current administration). It has become a day to day society, and an election that is 60 days away had might as well be 600 days away.
At the end of the day, Obama will be president. Hakuna Matata.

ok, I will vote for him now. as long as he is not the mean uncle......

Obama has said that same thing. Its about the people. Hey man, I got two choices (I say we hold off on the third choice....revolution, for now). I'm going with the one I trust. I will never vote republican. Ever. Obama has a history of fighting FOR the working poor.

LOL. Landslide? Where was post-Biden-announcement bump? Where was the post-convention bounce? It was barely there, mostly negligible, and less than most conventions produce. Why was McCain catching (and in some polls passing) Obama in the polls leading up to the Dem convention? I can understand why you don't like looking at polls now!

never have bro. When the people who are out working during the poll phone calls and the people who are having dinner with their kids during the phone calls go out and actually cast a real vote, you will see a big difference. Landslide. 75% of the vote.

I think we'll see the same difference that we saw in many of the primaries. In most of the polls Obama's actual total was a bit lower than the poll predictions. I think people talking to pollsters want to appear enlightened so they say they're voting for Obama, but when the curtain closes in the booth things change.
Who knows. But I do know that there is no indication at this point that it will be a landslide, and I do know that the Dems should have had 2 slam dunks this past decade already and managed to cock it up. I personally don't care either way because neither of the guys running will be getting my vote.

some say he is Muslim, some say he is Marxist.
I have no idea who he is, but if people are coming up with negative things about him, then maybe they know something I do not.

Right, let's set some things straight here, if not for my own sanity at this point. Been a member now for a few years, and on the whole I don't post a whole hell of a lot, read bucket loads of posts though. Recently I have found myself at ends with the posts I have been reading:
I am not a citizen of the USA, granted, but that can sometimes help bring some objectivity to the table. I can't believe when I read on here and see on the news that it is predicted to be a very close race come November, holy shit, guys is there any hope. Now I know that a lot of you, that post on these boards, seem like intelligent people, and I am sorry to say this, but the rest of that country must be inhabited by iliterate savages who don't know thier asses from their elbows.
This party has lied to you and the world about the dreaded WMD's so as to invade a soverign nation that never posed a threat. Allowed your black population in New Orleans literaly float past without lifting a finger. Has driven your country into the depths of an impending recession. Violated the human rights of countless people with these torture flights. Eroded completley what it is that defines the USA,namely freedom. Anyone entering your country is essentially treated to a barrage of backround searchs and have personnal information disclosed and retained. The word terrorist has come to mean muslim, the bile I read and hear on these are amazing and amount to nothing short of pure blind racism. Racism ingrained into a population that really should know better ie. I was watching a report that interviewed a number of people on a street corner and many said that they would not vote Obama due to - him being black, his name, many believe he is Muslim. The illegal detention centres that are set up at will, the millions who have been slaughtered etc.......I could go on and on and on
And it's going to be a close race, McCain even shows ahead in some polls
I have read that watching too much television may impact short term memory and perhaps that explains it on the whole, I just really dont know, I am at an absolute loss.
The straw that broke the camels back was when I was reading a post and somebody mentioned that there was no harm in teaching Creationist and Evolutionist ideas in schools, and that was it, I saw red. Because of this red mist post I am sure to have insulted many of you whom I would not have wanted to, and if I have, I honest to God apoligise.
Rant over
hell of a rant! i dont really know what you mean by the last bit....but i couldnt agree with you more about if the republicans actually win again. if they do i honestly dont think i will live in the states for a while (i am an american currently abroad for a year or so). i think it would be a disgrace if they win, a blow to humanity....

yeah, "if you choose not to decide you still have made a choice"
But I did decide. I decided that neither of these guys should be running the country. The reality is that one of them will be, but I don't have to be complicit in that.
I have decided to support a 3rd party candidate as I've done for many, many years.

Please be respectful. You may not believe Him to be the Messiah, you may not believe in God at all, but considering you consider yourself an intelligent person, understand that history points to his existence, not as mythical but factual. YOUR perspective of Him is your own right and choice.
1. sure he existed. but the perception many have of him is mythological. similar to king arthur. historically, he surely existed. factually, no he did not head to avalon to later return and save england and he did not pull swords from stones, etc etc. that was what the mythological comment referred to.
2. while we're talking about respect, how about we show some respect for people who have dedicated their lives to doing real science that helps humanity by not pissing all over them and claiming creationism is some sort of scientific theory meriting inclusion in science textbooks and curriculums?
I have no idea who he is, but if people are coming up with negative things about him, then maybe they know something I do not.

Yes we all appear to be afraid. I'll concur with this.
Though, on the topic of negative things ... it is called spin.

I am not pissing on anyone. I respect others' views and I always have. But certainly all can admit that while liberal views began in the 60's in a free loving environment, those lambs have turned into lions and now the conservative individuals are the ones who are being stoned by the masses.
And like it or not, we cannot claim our own freedom of choice without acknowledging that like it or not, people have the right to their own choices on what to believe. Because at the end of the day, no matter who feels their own choices are the right ones, it is all based on opinions and thoughts on what we find accurate.
It seems you do not find my beliefs accurate. It is reasonable that your life should follow your heart and mind. But mine tell me otherwise. You are no more intelligent; neither am I.
If we are Americans, as we all are saying here, then that is the spirit of our nation.
And personally, I have always been respectful of anyone here no matter what I thought of their opinion; agree or disagree......it is not mine to decide for anyone other than myself. And many times those who claim to be liberal attempt to make the conservatives, Christians, or Republicans appear to be not as intelligent or evolved as they are. That is condescending and a tactic I do not give or take.
Peace to you. And I really do mean that. I have learned a lot of from people here on the message boards and I have changed a lot as well from it. But I have never been bullied into new thoughts. Anyone who has enlightened me has done it because I have respected them and they me.

this reads like a fancy christian way of saying that open-mindedness has to include wanton stupidity. creationism is not science, period. end of discussion. under no definition or practice of the discipline does creationism qualify as a legit scientific theory. being open-minded doesn't mean i need to go "oh, well i don't want to hurt your feelings so yes, the fact that your religious beliefs are legit obviously means they should be added to the science curriculum because we wouldn't want you to feel left out." we don't teach exodus in world history either. and prayer and episcopal snake healing are not taught in med school. that's all i'm saying. you're entitled to your beliefs and i will respect them. but when you place those beliefs in spheres where they have no business and attempt to force them on the public, you can expect they will be challenged. the fact that you can't take any critical analysis of those beliefs is proof that it is not science and has no business in a science classroom.
Were he speaking truth he'd have moved. That was the blowhard reference. They get all worked up and threaten to leave the country if so-and-so gets elected.
If you want to leave, just leave. Why would you talk about it and not follow through? If you feel so passionately, then do it. Unless the passion really isn't there, and you're simply being melodramatic.
Don't compare Christopher Columbus, who was an explorer who actually risked his life and followed the dream with a celeb who talks a good game.

What rock did you right wing nuts crawl out from. This is a serious question.
Amen to that statement.
And blowhard? From reviewing your posts jeffbr, and observing your HI-FI tone, I don't guess you've ever said anything for "dramatic effect" eh?
Here's what I don't get - why you conservatives even bother with Pearl Jam. You think Vedder is a blowhard. You can't possibly agree with any of their political views, and probably not their esoteric views either. I think you guys hang around here just to agitate.

You must be ones of thos eprogressive tolerant liberals. Jeez, do we have to cover this topic all the damn time?
Just to clarify, blowhard was definitey name calling, but weenie is his/her username! I couldn't refer to the person any other way.
Yep, weenie is my username, but I assure anyone who knows me would say that I'm neither.
I believe I have the right to make a statement that I will be considering a move if McCain is elected don't I? And if that gets you all riled up then you must not support our Constitution.
It amazes me that you can make a statement that you're certain I have no intention of moving. I've been considering moving to Europe for the last 10 years. You don't know me, and you don't know what I will or will not do or what I've been thinking about doing. You're just generalizing because you're all emotional over the fact that I think McCain becoming President is a serious enough reason to make the move.
And as for being "scared", you bet your sweet ass I'm scared. Bush lied to take us to war and I could have had a son or daughter that died in that war. That scares me.
He thinks it's okay to bug the communications of everyday normal people on the premise that he "might" find out something about terrorists. Smacks of a police state, and yeah, that scares the hell out of me.
So when I read posts here from folks who agree with the above and have no respect for our constitution, yes, it scares the hell out of me. And if you've been paying attention, it should scare the hello out of you too.

Look, you're the one who was scared by the posters here. If so, then I'm sorry. But apparently you weren't too scared - you came back to mix it up. The OP was agitating. Others were simply responding in kind. Why do the respondents keep getting called out, and the OP gets praise? Maybe because you agree with the OP. Which is fine. But let's try to recognize and avoid double-standards.
When Vedder says he's leaving the country if Bush gets elected, and knows he has no intention of doing so, then yes - blowhard. That doesn't mean that I think everything he says is nullified. We all can be blowhards on certain issues or on certain days. He writes amazing songs, deep lyrics, cares about issues, etc... I agree with many of his issues, disagree with many of his issues, often disagree with his means to ends I agree with. I'm a libertarian, so I'm for bringing the troops home tomorrow, legalizing choice of all kinds, and having people pay for services they want. So while I'm fiscally conservative, I am not a traditional conservative. But even without all of that, the music kicks ass. Hopefully, as Cincy pointed out, we don't have to rehash the "you can't be a fan if you aren't as liberal as Ed", BS.

Despite all our differences, one thing, which has been proven time and again is we can at least all stand under the same roof or sky (depending where the show is) for 2.5 hours and be lifted by the musical experience ... : )

Huh? Nowhere do I say that you shouldn't be allowed to move. In fact, I would heartily encourage it. If you aren't happy here, and if you disagree with my politics, and if you vote, I'd prefer that you moved out of the country. I have never said that people shouldn't move. Not sure where you got that.

I am not scared. Fear is what has allowed the government to do what it has done. I prefer reason to fear, but you are of course welcome to use whatever motivation you'd like.
Since you've said you've reviewed my posts, please note that I have been consistent in my disdain for the Patriot Act, and have continually posted that I want the troops home tomorrow. Fuck "orderly withdrawal". Let's get them out of harms way right now. But you've apparently painted me into a box in which I don't belong so that it more neatly fits into your preconceived notions.

My mistake if you thought I meant the posters on this thread. I didn't explain myself. I meant the posters on this BOARD - ever since I started reading posts here (years ago) specifically referencing politics. And when I say I agree with a post that someone has entered, I'm usually just trying to give support and use someone else's opinion as an entry for an opinion I want to share.
And I'm NOT saying that anybody here (not just this thread) shouldn't say how they feel and what they think. I'm only stating for the record that some folks philosophies scare me. Obviously not in the sense where I'm shivering in my boots and refuse to read any threads anymore, but in the rhetorical sense.
And yeah, we don't have to rehash the "fan" thing. It just confuses me because I'm so fucking passionate about this band's writing, in addition to their kickass music. Not just Ed's writing, but Stone's and Mike's.
Posting here is a lot like sending e-mail to someone who doesn't know you. It's really easy for misunderstandings to occur. It was my bad for not clarifying WHO scares me. I really didn't mean to offend anyone on the thread.

I agree with you. Posting here often leads to misunderstandings. I incorrectly read things into your post, and I'm sorry for that. We can both share a passion for the music, even if it is for different reasons. We also both seem to care about the constitution. I like that you actually brought that into the discussion since it is a focus of mine.

some say he is Muslim, some say he is Marxist.
I have no idea who he is, but if people are coming up with negative things about him, then maybe they know something I do not.
And you know whether you like or hate the current administration, you see that we are afraid; all of us. Some of us are afraid of what we are told to be in the Republican light and some of us are afraid of more of the same, as they say of you do not like Bush.
Fear sells and drives us to make irrational decisions sometimes. It also makes us very vulnerable.

hell of a rant! i dont really know what you mean by the last bit....but i couldnt agree with you more about if the republicans actually win again. if they do i honestly dont think i will live in the states for a while (i am an american currently abroad for a year or so). i think it would be a disgrace if they win, a blow to humanity....

But I did decide. I decided that neither of these guys should be running the country. The reality is that one of them will be, but I don't have to be complicit in that.
I have decided to support a 3rd party candidate as I've done for many, many years.
1. sure he existed. but the perception many have of him is mythological. similar to king arthur. historically, he surely existed. factually, no he did not head to avalon to later return and save england and he did not pull swords from stones, etc etc. that was what the mythological comment referred to.
2. while we're talking about respect, how about we show some respect for people who have dedicated their lives to doing real science that helps humanity by not pissing all over them and claiming creationism is some sort of scientific theory meriting inclusion in science textbooks and curriculums?
Don't trust Obama, don't trust yer mama and I am taking a leap that you don't trust McCain either. : )
Yes we all appear to be afraid. I'll concur with this.
Though, on the topic of negative things ... it is called spin.

It is hard to get to the bottom of things when we live in a 'sound byte' society. The goal has been achieved I see from what you said above ...
"I have no idea who he is, but if people are coming up with negative things about him, then maybe they know something I do not."

I know there are plenty of folks who have eaten their hats;)
If McSame wins I am moving to Canada!
If you do, I will completely respect you for that. Seriously. It is just the people who use that as hyperbole for dramatic effect that bother me.
Go somewhere else and call people names.

You must be ones of thos eprogressive tolerant liberals. Jeez, do we have to cover this topic all the damn time?

Why do that?
Agreed! Well put. And regardless of politics I am always happy to buy a fellow PJ fan a drink at a show.
