Right, let's set some things straight here, if not for my own sanity at this point. Been a member now for a few years, and on the whole I don't post a whole hell of a lot, read bucket loads of posts though. Recently I have found myself at ends with the posts I have been reading:

I am not a citizen of the USA, granted, but that can sometimes help bring some objectivity to the table. I can't believe when I read on here and see on the news that it is predicted to be a very close race come November, holy shit, guys is there any hope. Now I know that a lot of you, that post on these boards, seem like intelligent people, and I am sorry to say this, but the rest of that country must be inhabited by iliterate savages who don't know thier asses from their elbows.

This party has lied to you and the world about the dreaded WMD's so as to invade a soverign nation that never posed a threat. Allowed your black population in New Orleans literaly float past without lifting a finger. Has driven your country into the depths of an impending recession. Violated the human rights of countless people with these torture flights. Eroded completley what it is that defines the USA,namely freedom. Anyone entering your country is essentially treated to a barrage of backround searchs and have personnal information disclosed and retained. The word terrorist has come to mean muslim, the bile I read and hear on these are amazing and amount to nothing short of pure blind racism. Racism ingrained into a population that really should know better ie. I was watching a report that interviewed a number of people on a street corner and many said that they would not vote Obama due to - him being black, his name, many believe he is Muslim. The illegal detention centres that are set up at will, the millions who have been slaughtered etc.......I could go on and on and on

And it's going to be a close race, McCain even shows ahead in some polls
I have read that watching too much television may impact short term memory and perhaps that explains it on the whole, I just really dont know, I am at an absolute loss.

The straw that broke the camels back was when I was reading a post and somebody mentioned that there was no harm in teaching Creationist and Evolutionist ideas in schools, and that was it, I saw red. Because of this red mist post I am sure to have insulted many of you whom I would not have wanted to, and if I have, I honest to God apoligise.

Rant over

A chara that was all you needed to say. Yer a commie ain't ya? Yer seeing Red?

Your perception of the American political system seems a bit tinged by your Red socialist leanings.

White people get hit by hurricanes all the time, but no one complains about that. Only when a city full of blacks gets hit do we go up in arms about the lack of help from the federal government.

Get a grip. People die in hurricanes. No need to play the blame game.

    Wow

I think you have just proven a point, thanks, that was actualy quicker than I thought it was going to be - good man
  • the post I reead concerning creationism mentioned that it should be a footnote. I.e "some religions believe that a higher power created life". I personally don't see how something like that can be that bad.

Maybe some people forget, but creationism isn't just a Christian thing. It is also a Jewish, Muslim, Hindu & budhist thing as well. Just the stories are different.
  • people live outside the US? i thought it was all dragons and demons over there. and commies who want to take our shit. and polar bears in canada.

I suppose your point is that Americans are ignorant morons and you obviously know better than them.

Take a moment and step back - think about opposing views and consider why they believe what they believe. It's more complex than "Americans are just racist imperialist morons."

Labelling the opposition is only effective when you're among your own. When trying to convince your opponents that they're wrong, try pointing out the problems with imperialism or racism.

Ireland could stand to accept a few thousand more Nigerian refugees. Why don't you get on that before pointing out the speck in America's eye? :D

I hear ya, it's not so much to do with religion, ie. a higher being creating the world, but more to do with what creationism is about. Believing that the world is only a few thousand years old. Refuting outright evolution, a literal perception of the bible etc....

There is much more to creationism than believing in a higher being, which is the backbone of most, if not all, religions

I am assuming that you are quoting someone else?

So are you saying I am not entitled to an opinion as I am not part of the herd? or that I must first point out the problems with imperialism and racism before I refer to them as bad things?

If you feel that I need to further explain why these are bad things then please let me know, however, I will take for granted that everyone else knows why they are wrong - until I stand corrected.

Not really sure what you mean there, why don't I get on what?? Allowing more Nigerians into the country? Although I do work, it is not in immigration so I can't impact this one way or the other.

It's pretty easy to get bent out of shape if you look through partisan-tinted glasses at the tip of the iceberg and make broad assumptions that hardly address even a fraction of the factors involved in the issues mentioned.

Yeah white people get hit by Hurricanes all the time, but what happened to the blacks in New Orleans would never of happened if it was a city/area full of white americans. (a slow and insufficient response to the disaster)

I don't think it's a white/black issue...I do think it shows that we've created a segment of the population that waits for others to help them and fix their problems.

I am not a citizen of Ireland, but from everything I read and see on TV, your country is filled with nothing but abusive, drunk, potato eating red heads whose only gift to this world is the game of golf, which Americans seem to be a lot better at now (until this year when a European finally won a PGA Championship).

I would think in the year 2008 you Irish folks would give up the alcoholism and do some good in this world instead of bitching about how a country across the ocean deals with problems that Ireland is too small and inconsequential to even have to deal with.

    Rant over.

P.S. Thanks for Conan. And you make awesome New York cops on Law and Order.

It's a class issue. If it were poor white kinda red necks, probably a slow response would also of happened.

But in this case, most are black and for the most part not of the higher earning spectrum.

Why are blacks for the most part in such a situation? Why on avg do they earn less than whites? perhaps because more whites have higher educations? then we should look at why whites tend to complete more years of school than blacks...

How much blame should be put onto the entire african american population for the problems they face today?

sure whites and blacks are = in america, at the same time not so =

I Dunno if that even makes sense,

I think you're getting us mixed up with the Scottish.

Edit: And when was being drunk a bad thing? Considering this world recession, to be able to afford to get drunk is a victory, and it's the Irish with the money to do that.

Its a class issue..agreed. I think we both know part of the reason is the polcies of the past, the racism. I also think, however, that it;s the polcies of the present that help keep people in these situations.

A simple metaphor...there are signs posted everywhere at parks, etc to nto feed the ducks...why? Because they will come to depend on it and will not feed for themselves...they lose the ability to take care of themselves.

For people you need to find a way to feed them short-term without them losing the ability to feed themselves.

What is going on here????? What happened to being able to accept what someone says, despite the fact that you may find it disrespectful, and either discarding it or addressing it maturely?

  • thing is, we arent doing that bad yet, so voters arent really motivated. maybe in four years, but we arent seeing any real consequences to poor decision making yet.

oh and the US isnt unique in this way.

So no one ever taught you "An eye for an eye leaves us all blind"??? By responding in such a manner you are no better. In fact, you seem to be proving his/her point. There is a way to respond without stooping to Moonpig's level while still making your point and maybe shifting his/her perspective.
