i don't buy this one bit. i can only imagine the outrage and demands put upon him if he came out and backed mccain. i know, it'd never happen in a million years. but if he did.....this place would be completely upside down with people questioning ed's decision making..
they may question his decision making, i agree. i was merely stating that he doesn't 'owe' anyone an explanation. and he doesn't.

as far as i'm concerned...who really gives a fuck? i don't listen to the music for ed's political views. i listen because it makes me tap my foot, think of times past, and enjoy the day a little more.

Ed showed his support during his solo tour, while talking about how movie and music stars shouldn't publically participate in political pandering, a large Obama '08 poster was walked across the stage behind him :)

it got a large round of applause at the three shows I went to.

Thanks for proving my point how no one can take a joke...

Hahaha..proving your own point. Do you really think I think Ed's a racist for this comment? Please.

i agree, he doesn't owe anyone anything. all i'm saying is there'd be a hefty chunk of people here that would think he did owe them one. i've been around here for quite a while (more years than i'd like to admit) and i've seen peoples reactions. i'm not naming anyone in particular......but it'd be total chaos around here if he ever did back someone like mccain. that's all i'm saying.

The original quote IS a good turn of phrase. :)

It is playing with the thought that it's a white house and white is like a blank color. Therefore, to put color into it is like painting or drawing. It's making it something DIFFERENT or more beautiful.

    Geez.

Do we have to miss the point all the time?

Ed is such a racist, how dare he notice someone's skin colour and actually mention it as if it's not a big deal or anything?

I had to post this here, since the last panel actually showed up in this thread in quite a pertinent way.

I'd actually be curious as to why Ed had never supported a Democrat candidate in the past ... It'd be interesting to hear his reasons. Has he given up on the whole 3rd parties can change the world idea? Does he now believe in voting for the "lesser of two evils" when before he actively eschewed this idea? Does he indeed think that Obama is somehow a special Dem candidate, and if so, why? I don't think that he should have to answer these questions, certainly not publically. Its just a somewhat surprising about-face.
If I'm not mistaken, Ed supported Democratic candidate John Kerry in 2004. And, now I'm really reaching back into my memory hole here, I don't think he had anything bad to say about Bill Clinton back in 1992. Less far back, he also defended Bill Clinton in an interview during the Monica Lewinski scandal (something about sniffing for used tissues in Clinton's prosecutor's wastebaskets).

Like a lot of people who occasionally vote third party, Ed's likely a pragmatist.
  • I don't really think anyone is calling Ed a racist. People might wonder if he's putting undue attention on the colour of Obama's skin, rather than focusing on the issues, but again, it was probably just a spontaneous turn of phrase.

My particular problem is that he has, in the past, given perfectly valid reasons for supporting a particular candidate. In this case, he seems to be vaguely throwing his lot in with Obama, and not getting any more involved than that. It's not wrong, per se, it's just a different approach than we're used to from Ed.

These were my thoughts on the topic. If you're going to mention how the whitehouse is going to be better with Obama in it....I would hope to hear a better reason than a change of color. No, Ed doesn't have to give a better reason, he doesn't have to state any reason at all....but that leaves me to wonder if that's all there is to say about Obama for him, since he hasn't elaborated on any other reasons that I know of.

So yes, Ed doesn't owe anyone any explaination BUT we can still discuss what was said and wonder about it if we choose to. and NO, I don't think anyone here was calling Ed a racist. It was more to the point of thinking this is the only thing that would change in the whitehouse next year...the color. If there's more then why not say so?

Maybe your memory is better than mine ... Did he explictly endorse Kerry? I suppose one can assume so, given the whole VFC tour and all.

I don't know about explicitly, but yeah, the VFC thing kinda made me think he was. I also remember when he was asked about why he wasn't supporting Nader, he said something to the effect of 'remodeling the house is a great idea, but you can't do it when the basement's on fire.'

It's the same thing with this color in the white house comment. It's not an explicit endorsement, but a funny comment that leads you to believe, "yeah, he's probably voting Obama."

I know on Ed's wiki site there's mention of him supporting kerry in 2004.

Wishlist last night at MSG, another mention of Obama.

He actually said this right before he went into Green Disease. I thought it was a little bit of a pop for the song.

I am surprised he didn't use it as a lead in right before he played "Black".
