great quote!
also mentioned - paraphrasing now - how he thinks the next time they are around those parts - he is looking forward to all the change and feeling hopeful, things will be better. :)

obviously, i don't look towards ed or any rock band for my political beliefs nor look to them for guidance, but as this is the official pearl jam message board....thought i'd simply share some of ed's words from the show. and what a SHOW! fantastic...brilliant...on fire! the band and the crowd - so glad we made the trip...and MSG tonight! :D

anyhooo.....i know it's been hinted at before of ed being an obama supporter, but he's never really spoken out and/or performed in support as the rest of the band has, and much earlier on. so it was cool to see ed say some wqords of support and belief....and in hope.

Yea, his conspicuous absence on Barak Around the Clock had me worried that he was going to support McCain. Whew! I'm glad he finally cleared up who he's backing - unless the color he was talking about in the White House is green...
I smile, but who am I kidding...

delukin, i would NEVER imagine ed backing mccain. figured he was probably supporting nader again - or simply being quiet b/c he didn't really support anyone. so yes...nice to see some words spoekn, and on a positive note.

True, dat. But did we ever find out why he wasn't a part of Barak Around the Clock? I'm sure he was busy w/ITW or something as opposed to not wanting to back Obama, right?

He probably just thought it was a very dumb idea. ;)

I'm much more interested in the content of his character than the color of his skin, but whatever works for Ed.

You really think that's the reason Ed supports him?

This election is going to be an embarrassment.

Whoever supports Obama will have to overly-explain why they are not just voting for him b/c he's black.

Whoever supports McCain will have to overly-explain why they are voting for McCain isn't because they are racist.

It's like wanting diversity, but not wanting to affect property values, all the while raising awareness of why "black" is wrong and "African American" is right for those wishing to go from non-racist to super non-racist. It's such a dilemma for white people.

I don't know. It seemed hip and vogue to vote for Barak even when nobody could pin him down on policy issues. I've never heard Ed articulate a reason for wanting Barak. This is the closest I've heard as a reason given.

He's not Republican. Sometimes I get the feeling that's as far as Ed bothers to look anymore.

Sure it's settling...but the bit of color makes all the difference!

    so there's that.

I don't think it is the most racist thing I have ever read but it does kind of reduce Obama's whole campaign down to "vote for him, he's the black guy".

I agree. Why the FUCK does race matter. Let me ask this question to all the good "liberals". If Obama was white would you vote for him? If the answer is "no", then why did you? There really is not difference between Clinton's platform and Obama's.
