I feel people like Al Gore and Ralph Nader do so much more good for this world when they aren't involved in politics. Especially being President.
Anyone who thinks that Nader could set his agenda and be able to implement it fully has not payed enough attention to politics over the years.
I think he'd get us started in the right direction for once....something the Dems always promise us but NEVER follow through on. I'm not wasting one more vote on that party unless it's for Dennis.

the thing with nader is that he runs only on at the federal level ... for real 3rd party growth ... it has to start at all levels of gov't ... whether it's the green party or whatever party - there has to be representation at least at the state level ...
it's much easier to win an election at lower levels of gov't ... once you do that - then you can show the ability to govern ...
makes good points on ppl saying they shouldn't run and also mentions things nader did in 2005, which is funny b/c listening to the ignorant rhetoric around here nader doesn't do anything except run for president every 4 years and takes a nap for the rest of the time

AWOL? He's been here, and there, speaking out. Just because CNN or Fox isn't giving him airtime doesn't mean you can pretend he's not been here fighting the good fight all along.
Nader is the hardest working guy around for the citizen/consumer. The hatred thrown around by some who are obviously unaware of what he's done for the American people is embarrassing.
edit: I see that after 4 and a half years, this is my 1000th post. Yay me.
i think it's hilarious that you got no replies to this from ppl here who make these baseless claims but don't have the balls to actually discuss or debate it. they always have something to say otherwise yet when facts are given they shut the fuck up and slink away
kinda like faux op/ed and glenn beck....just say whatever the hell you want, doesn't matter if it's not true, then ignore everything proving you wrong

Ha, thanks. You're of course right, but I didn't expect any response to that. Their original argument was ignorant of fact. When you insert the facts, there's nothing for them to say.
Using the word "methinks" in your message board posts doesn't make you look smart.

except some lame comment like 'ralph nader hates puppies'
99.99999% of obama supporters here can't even tell you why they support him other than the wonderful dissertation of 'obama's the only realistic candidate, deal w/ it!' all the other times you press them on why they simply cry and say they don't owe you any explanation. they have all these bs and opinionated reasons why nader isn't fit to be president but when you ask 'well, why is obama qualified' you get nothing.

April 25, 2008
April 22 meant more to me than being primary day for the Democratic and Republican parties in Pennsylvania. Like many other citizens, I volunteered to start gathering signatures to place Ralph Nader's name on our state's presidential ballot in the November general election. To do this, 24,665 signatures must be collected by Aug. 1. Our goal is 50,000.
I learned two things in eight hours of petitioning at my polling station in West Bethlehem. First, bitterness still runs deep among Democrats over the outcome of the 2000 elections. Second, the majority of voters I confronted think third parties are distractions, carrying no viable benefit. To better examine these claims, I did my own personal polling during the course of the day.
Of the 164 Democrats I was able to have a dialogue with, 83 would not sign my petition. Their reasons: Why waste a vote on someone who can't win, and that Nader cost Al Gore the election in 2000; he is a vote stealer.
My response was that it is our duty to vote for the person we believe will do best for our country, regardless of whether he or she is in contention. A vote with true purpose is not wasted. As for Nader costing Gore the election, please, be reasonable. The hijacking in Florida, the shenanigans pulled in Ohio, the many states Gore lost where Nader's name didn't even appear on their ballot are more substantial reasons for Gore's loss. Even he has stated that it was he, and he alone, who lost his election.
Responding to whether Nader is a vote stealer: When I see a name on the ballot and vote, I realize that a platform goes with the name. Anyone who has heard or read Nader's reason for running knows it's not a vote-stealing platform. With that mentality, any candidate running against ''my candidate'' is a vote stealer. Enough said.
I tried telling all voters that while I was there to get Nader's name on the ballot, there should be a multitude of party names for us to choose from. Competition from third parties can only broaden our vision. Our founding fathers, from Washington and Adams to Jefferson and Franklin, warned us that having just two parties controlling our government would be detrimental. We are seeing that today.
Remember, it was the Progressive Party that gave us the creation of national parks and wildlife refuges, regulations on large corporations and monopolies, worker's rights and the right to unionize. The Socialist Party was on the forefront of the civil rights movement, abolition of child labor and universal suffrage. For decades, Nader told us about the corruption of corporate control in politics, now being somewhat addressed by our Democratic nominees. I can go on and on.
People told me I'm too much of an idealist. I do realize that in politics and government, people need to strive for the ideal form of democracy. Why settle for the status quo? Why continue to let this political ping pong game of Democrats and Republicans control our fate while they set the rules making it virtually impossible for third parties to be heard and allowed on the ballots?
I put the blame mostly on the two parties for implanting that seed of bitterness into the minds of today's voters. It is that hatred that affects their sense of rationale.
So, I truly thank the signers of my petition for moving democracy forward. To the more than half of the 29 Republicans who signed my petition for the wrong reason (taking votes away from a Democrat), please understand this is not a game. To the voters who did not sign, I am not bitter toward you. You opened my eyes that as a nation, we still have a way to go to achieve the idealistic form of democracy that is needed for us, the people. But I have faith that some day our children or their children will create just that.
If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

but i am sure you guys will continue to excuse and ignore that. just as he has.

Oh, you little weak grasp at having anything to say has been addressed.
But you go ahead and knock yourself out and address all these issues not just the questions which you'll rationalize away but all of it, then I'll actually take you seriously:

I just addressed your little one thing you have against Nader.
And I said nevermind the questions...address the links I posted.
Or just don't...I couldn't care less either way. But your one little point that you bring up endlessly against Nader looks so silly against the mountains of problems I have with Obama and that's the reason I posted it. Picking between Nader and Obama really isn't a tough decision for me based on all of the crap Obama has done and also NOT done.
