that was sorta my point as well... France LOST the world cup on that night... Ireland only lost a game, and so they can still win the tournament.. its a defeat but its not like Ireland have walked out of the competition
it is not the competition itself but the grandslam that everyone wants to win. yes we can win the 6nations on points, but who wants that? we wanted to beat everyone and prove we are the second best team in the world. cant wait till we face england, they will be slaughtered like the chickens they are :D

well that's how it felt to me  lol, I love the way you all seem to know how I feel.

but you said "To compare, for us it was like France losing the world cup final to Italy."

I love the way you seem to know how the French felt after that game
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

Exactly! Yesterday we lost what WOULD have been our first grand slam in 60 years... and that's WITHOUT mentioning the history even.

well even the French I was talking to last night compared the two. That was where I got the comparison from. When they saw what we were like they said they understand how we feel BECAUSE of that match!

I did'nt mean they could still do the Grand slam,do you think I'm fucking stupid or something? And what's all this stuff about the history?Yeah it was historical up to and including the kick off,but after that it's just like any other game,as will the England game be just like any other six nations game. The historic decision was made and yesterday history was made, and I'm not ashamed to say I was proud to be an Irish man,but we have to let it go now.Ireland now play at croke park, great,Why keep bringing up the past? It's time we moved on now, what's done is done.

Huh? What the fuck are you talking about? YOUR opinion and how YOU feel about it? Yes the occasion was forgotten about once teh game started BUT it was still a game we were supposed to win. Jesus, just cos you're able to get over it doesn't fucking mean everyone else can. It was heartbreaking, like somebody fucking died. I just don't get some people.

it was a fucking game of sport... a GAME!!! men chasing and throwing a funny shaped ball... big deal... death doesnt enter the equation, and if it does then people need some serious help!!

nothing... your reaction to a game is hard to understand but i do understand it.

remember it was you who started threads saying it was an historical day for ireland... maybe it should have been "its an historical day for irish rugby" as i think Ireland getting rid of english rule is deemed more "historical".

you are the one equating it to someone dying... which verges on the side of nonsenical.. i've watched scotland at football amtches, so i know what heartache is :p i've just never equated it to someone dying... yeah sure its pretty annoying but i've never lost sleep and i've never even let my mood be down the following day!

    its a fucking game

Yes there are MORE historical days  doesn't mean something isn't historical cos it's not the MOST historical

Anyway, I apologise dunk  why don't you go ahead and tell me and so many others how we SHOULD be feeling! It's an historical day for Irish rugby, yes, for Irish sport, yes, AND for Ireland. To say otherwise means you really don't have a clue.

to say otherwise means i dont give a fuck.. its only a game, you're attaching some gigantic significance to a sport... big deal

attaching historical importance is something else entirely.. ask the population what year the Easter uprising was and hopefull 90%+ should be able to tell you... wait 100 years and ask them what was so significant about a rugby match and they'll probably just look blankly at you

Oh no, it's not ME attaching something gigantic to the game... that was already done. Give it up dunk, you couldn't possibly understand. Do a news google search on 'Croke Park' and see which one of them does NOT mention the word 'historical' and yet, I didn't write any of them :p . I'm sorry but you're just getting ridiculous now in order to keep the argument going.

On another note, apparently England is considering apologising for bloody sunday (no. 1) on the 24th

What? I think it would be a nice gesture and som eof the most nationalist people I know have said the same. Would you not think it would be a nice gesture? I'm not expecting it but if it happened it would be most welcome.

Some stupid people will probably boo the anthem anyway, nothing I or you or the British foreign minister can do about that if they do.

It would have been a nice gesture in 1920 or '21 or'22 etc.Why now?Did the brits just realise that the murder scene is still there?Don't get me wrong,I'm all for progress, especially in my own country, but it seems that because Croke Park is in the public eye(as far as the uk is concerned)they suddenly feel the need to apologise.Kinda fuckin stinks if you ask me.

well yes, I'd totally agree the apology should have been there long ago but it wasn't and you're the one who suggested I move on from being stuck in the past. I don't feel as strongly as I'm sure many do and they have every right to... but I think an apology, however late, would be significant. I think the lack of any kind of apology is what keeps some people from moving on.

I see your point. An apology now is................I don't want to say meaningless,I'm just a bit suspicious of their motives I suppose.I consider myself a Repuplican and I'm wary of the british hierarchy in general from the government to the monarchy,it's just the way I am and I make no apologies for it.As I said,it's their motives i have difficulty with.

What motives do you think there could be? I see the only possible motives as easing relations between the countries... ok well maybe not motive, but the only possible outcome. If they do apologise that's one less thing people have to remain bitter about. I'm pretty wary of them too but I think if we don't get anything under the Blair administration, we'll never get it.

I think the timing would be good - considering the whole 'event', the GAA opening their grounds to allow England to come and play at their headquarters, it IS an olive branch of sorts and a significant step. Not that we WANT anything back but the opportunity is there for them to give something back. It doesn't arise very often. Those who MAY boo the anthem are the types of people who will boo it apology or not.
