North Korea and War

DU is toxic, and the Americans probably do not need to use it, but it is NOT WMD. I didn't address that point because a) it has nothing to do with Kim getting the bomb, and b) its apples and oranges when we are talking about nuclear weapons. Sure, they both contain uranium, but that's pretty much where the similarity ends, at least in terms of destructive potential.
And I DID respond to that other point. Like I said already, the U.S. has not behaved that way towards North Korea at all. With this particular state, they have tried diplomacy many, many, many times in the past.

    1. the UN lists DU as a WMD
    2. how is calling a country an axis of evil and that the US plans to spread democracy in these places diplomatic?
    3. why wouldn't they hold one on one talks with n. korea when they initially pulled out of the non-nuclear zone talks?

how about this one: they are both wackjobs....

you could have responded initially with these reponses but look at what you wrote ... do you consider that a reasonable response?

as for pakistan - you don't think its the same thing ... how is it not?

The onus is on you to prove how it is the same thing, since that's the argument you brought up. Nevertheless, they are not the same thing because Pakistan's leadership has not made direct nuclear threats, the political relationship between Pakistan's leadership and the West is not nearly as hostile (even if Pakistan's populace is full of extremists), Pakistan's nuclear arsenal is a response to India's similar arsenal (not a response to the fact that the U.S. and its allies think they are a threat) ... Its not the same political situation at all. I am uncomfortable with ANY country having these weapons. But there are differences in degree. Pakistan has had these weapons for a while now. North Korea is trying to get them and actually threatening their use in a really brazen fashion.

    1) The UN is a political body, not a scientific one. They vote based on opinion and politics, not actual scientific evidence.
    2) The U.S. has never threatened a direct invasion of North Korea. at least not since the early days of the Cold War.
    3) Six party talks have been an ongoing thing ... Despite they fact that they go nowhere. The U.S. is currently avoiding one-on-one talks because they do not want to reinforce Kim's bad behavior, and I don't blame them. You do not bully nations into talks with threats of launching missiles. The Americans couldn't do it to the Iraqis, and the North Koreans won't be able to do it to the Americans.

with all due respect to Polaris, and nothing against you, Polaris...I could care less if Polaris doesn't label kimmy a wackjob....

hey, if somebody thinks that kimmy is a nut, great....if not, that's fine as well...the bottom line here is: kimmy was called out and he is doing something about it...

we can sit here all day and label kimmy a crazy little madman, but that does not change the fact he is setting off bombs, prodding the US, and pissing in bushy's cornflakes....oh, yeah, the US won't sit down and talk with him...

listen, the world is pissed at kimmy, now is the time to take advantage of that...sitting down will cause no harm, and may even garner some much needed support for the US...

More people in this world pray and talk to god (whichever god they choose) than don't. What's your point?

This is all the more shocking since Musharref has admitted that Pakistan helped North Korea in terms of developing nuclear weapons....

    Ya. Kinda fucked up IMO.

Also IMO, i beleive that Pakistan are "friends" now for the reason that if that gov't is over thrown, then a fundamentalist muslim groups will have nukes. So, id do what I could to keep Mush in office also.

The US is trying to get engage with talks, as well as China and SK. The ball seems to be in Lil Kims court right now.

again - you guys can discuss the individual talking points or u can simplify and pass it off ... up to you ...

if you actually read what is being written and respond to it ... maybe we'd get somewhere ... but you're just reading what you want to read ... am i saying it was wrong to use the nuke in ww2? ... i haven't commented either way ... why won't you respond to the US using DU in recent times?? ... why won't you respond to the very apparent threat they show if you are north korea?

you can focus on that or you can respond by saying i just blame the US for everything or that i'm supposedly smarter than that ...

WTF does DU have to do w/ NK creating/ using/ testing nukes?

Think its you that needs to stay on subject.

Exactly. The man wanted talks, and now everyone is (once again) willing. What exactly they talk about is not clear to me, though. There have been so many talks up to this point, and Kim has done nothing to change.

perhaps they will talk about the weather...who knows...anyway, I think just sitting down at the table will help the US rebuild it's tarnished reputation...by sitting down in good faith the NK or Iran, the world may not see the US as the bullies they think we are...

sitting down and talking never killed anyone...that happens when the talking is absent...

well i assume the wackiness people perceive is that he will fire a nuclear weapon indiscrimantly without reason or thought ... maybe his story is another propaganda tool ... i dunno ... all i can go by is by what people who have direct contact with him ...

    Agreed to a point.

But should we always honor somone's demands after they threaten war every other second?

Well yes, I realize this. But the point was, there was a time when talks could have been possible. And based on your article, they made a point that they feel the US being left out, and letting China, Japan, and SK have the talks might make NK respond more, due to the obvious hatred and not trusting of the US. And I can certainly see that as being a valid point.

    please note: I'm cynical, too...

but, if the US goes to the table, in good faith, without demanding and telling and waving pistols...and kim tells us to fuck off...who is going to get the support of the world...?

whether we like it or not, kimmy ain't going away any time soon...I say we deal with him now rather that later...and I feel the same way about Iran...

I hear ya..and agree this is not easy...but imagine this..if bush stood up today and said: "hey everybody, I want to talk to kimmy about this here nuk-le-ur (:)) thing, let's sit down and have some tea, maybe we can work something out"...I'm pretty sure the world would welcome this, and support it...

I'd choose talk ... Invasion is a bad choice because of the damage Kim would do to his neighbors. The fucker has a lot of artillery and missiles.

If talk fails? I'd probably try ignoring next, coupled with some covert stuff, perhaps. Its not clear if his bombs even really work, in terms of getting off the Asian continent. finding out would be the next step, along with some strategic sabotage.
