Pearl Jam and Politic's.

I was just at a meeting hosted by the association I work at. I felt down because the people that were able to make changes in their communities had degrees with specializations; i.e., architecture. Actually, I think what they are doing is great! I just didn't know what I could do. I thought Well, architects can change their communities, as well as teachers, and others with a specific degree or specialization. I thought I had to go back to school and get a Master's in something if I wanted to contribute in a meaningful way; to be a part of the planning process for something greater, but what kind of change can a person do with a Master's in Gastronomy?
I'm currently knitting blankets for Project Linus, and I do other stuff, but it's not part of the planning of a community. I don't contribute to a front lines change.
Then I thought of the members of Pearl Jam. They have the talent and the guts to get their message out, and affect change, no matter how big or small for their communities. They donate a portion of each concert to a local chartity, and they contribute in other ways. They have the musician skills, as an architect has skills or an engineer has skills. From thinking of them, I realized it is not the degree, if I'm not willing to get the degree, that will result in a contribution from me to my community. It is the willingness to do so. They are part of planning processes, maybe towards a broader community, but I just felt good thinking of them. I have to figure out what I'm passionate about, and just get the guts to do something. This may be a passing thing, or maybe I'll be able to find my groove, and feel like I'm contributing in some way at the same time. I think they are inspiring as were the people I heard from today. There is no such thing as leftover pizza. There is now pizza and later pizza. - anonymous

lol, it's just so Megalomaniacal isn't it?I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Your nature is to do harm, mine is to love truth, and to make it public in spite of you. - Voltaire0 -

False. They do mean something when it comes to intelligence. They don't mean everything though.
College degrees are often difficult to obtain and take hard work and intelligence, especially if obtained in a difficult field. All I know is that to see, and not to speak, would be the great betrayal.

I know but it says a lot about the man that he takes action in something that he hates. So when he starts one of his rants during a show people should understand that he isn't doing it for fun but out of necessity.0 -

A large majority of the work simply involves learning by rote. You simply read and memorize other people's words and ideas. It takes hard work, and the ability to apply yourself, but as for intelligence? There are many greatly influential people in the world of ideas throughout history who received no formal education. In fact most of the worlds famous writers and artists were self educated.0 -

I can't believe some people are even arguing about EV's education. That's just ridiculous. George W. Bush has a Yale degree, I guess he's a lot smarter and has a more credible opinion than everyone.0

out of the three shows i went to in '03, when ed seemed to be complaining the most, there was only one show (atlanta) that i was a little dissapointed about his ranting. but then they played crown of thorns (chloe dancer).you're a real hooker. im gonna slap you in public.

Formal education provides information which is something clearly lacking on this board. But I agree, one need not have a degree to be smart, and I think EV is one of those guys who is probably gifted intellectually based on his thoughts, music, and expression...

The minute somone tries to share information with you, you just cry about it, so why bother? If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.
