Maximum Wage

Since many states decided yesterday to further increase the minimum wage, I'd like to propose the next logical step in this process: the maximum wage. It's high time that we put an upper bound on what you can earn in this country. Let's cap all wages at a maximum of $50,000 per year. No person, regardless of ability or value, should be permitted to make over $50,000 in one year because, obviously, no one needs more than $50,000 in one year. All income exceeding $50,000 should be taxed at a 100% rate.

This program will stimulate growth because it will force every business to invest in their own organization's growth, rather than fraudalently lining the pockets of rich fat-cats. Furthermore, we can use that tax money to provide free health care for everyone, including pets. Finally, it will bring about a golden age of equality wherein there will be almost no gap between rich and poor!

Well, obviously Baseball and Hockey are expendable. We all must compromise and cooperate!

And what's wrong with that? I mean, do we say "communism is with you on this" when we talk about the minimum wage?

I'm very serious. What right do you have to earn more than $50,000 per year without the rest of us approving?

Of course! Everyone is equal, therefore no one should be allowed to make over $50,000 per year, including Native Americans.

I have every right to earn more than $50,000 a year without your approval. You are not my boss, you do not own the company I work for. What right do you have to decide how much money I make?

But...but...but...ummm...isn't that different? Don't we need the nanny state to guarantee our right to a fair wage for the working class? After all, the state is able to more accurately assign value to labor than the market isn't it?

I didn't own your company when I forced it to pay the minimum wage. How is this any different?

Why would you need more than $50,000 per year??? I'm going to take care of you.

wow, well I'm with you :) maybe a little more than 50,000 though... cos when that translates into euro, it's actually not excessive if you have a family to support and a mortgage to pay so maybe 75000 - nobody needs more than that.

so I have to go to 18 different stores to buy groceries and everything is the same.

No thanks man, I like choices.

Where is the incentive to create? Sounds like a pretty boring, dull, and lifeless society.

Perhaps everyone could wear grey too.

All it really does in practice is make a smaller group of people richer and expand the number of people at the bottom. If you're born into politics you're set for life, everyone else pretty much lives in the shit.

Life is competition and struggle, the sooner everyone realizes that and gets busy, the sooner they become successful. Success is relative, you don't have to be suprisingly rich to be successful, and it's not hard at all to make a great living in this country, hell people with no documentation at all have done it for years and years.

Sure everyone has exactly the same everything and they survive and live, but really, it's a pretty dull and boring way to live.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

Ha!.. money is different to everyone, depending on where you live and your lifestyle. Right now I make only 30k, but I get buy. If I was making 40k, I wouldn't know what to do with all that extra dough. :)

YOUR mortgage??? YOUR family???? Is that all you think about -- you????

This is not the time for selfishness. Sacrifice to the greater good. Can't you cooperate? Can't you compromise?

I think we would say keep the $50 000 grand just give us back 1/8th of the land that was stolen and admit the genocide that was done by the US govt...including their excuse of manifest destiny and how it was used to justify the opening up of the West.
....ok thats a different thread. Lo Siento.

    I don't have a mortgage OR a family :p

    Lol.

I'm thinking about others here... I know if there is a family of say 3 kids where the mom stays at home and dad brings home the bacon, 50,000 (being say 35,000 euro) is absolutely NOTHING.

well this is true.. we all live to our means. You'd soon figure out what to do with the extra 10k and start wondering what you ever did without it :o

Of course not! You may still go to any store you'd like. And since grocers will no longer be able to selfishly squander the profits of their stores on their own personal interests, there will be more stores than ever!!
Where is the incentive to create?

People will create because they have to.
Sounds like a pretty boring, dull, and lifeless society.

It will be just the opposite. No more poverty to bring us down! No more oppression by rich fat cats! Everyone will be the same!
