And it begins...

I think this is the first sign of the more fierce attack strategy the McCain campaign has been speaking about for the past few days as a way to make up ground. Now, regardless of the legitimacy of this argument, there's no doubt this is in response to McCain losing ground. If they considered more important, why has this not been a more important part of the McCain campaign's strategy before? This is by far the largest attack they've lobbied against Obama thus far; I mean, saying the Democratic presidential contender is a friend to terrorists is pretty heavy.

So, what do you think? Fair territory? How will it be receieved by the public, and do you think this is the first step of McCain's camp to discredit Obama, and will we be seeing ads? Do you think we're about to start seeing Rev. Wright over and over again for the second time? I'm surprised; I thought McCain would leave this stuff to 527s.

They know they're in bad shape. I expected them to leave this to the 527s, too...but it has become clear that they aren't going to wait around for someone else to do the dirty work.

The most fucked up thing is, I don't think it's going to help their cause. What it will do is further divide the country, no matter who wins the election.

edited to add: I don't know if we'll see Rev. Wright again or not. I feel like all that will do is rally the base a little more, but since they are delusional and drooling over "America's Cocktail Waitress" Sarah Palin, they don't need to be shown more Rev. Wright.

Also, didn't McCain himself come out against using the Rev. Wright stuff against Obama last spring? This will make him look like a hypocrite. But, he already does. So they'll probably go for it.

Well throwing up the white flag in Michigan is surely a sign desperation is forthcoming. After Obama takes office his administration better be on the up and up and squeaky clean because they going to be scrutinized thoroughly.

They'll know after taking a dump whether Obama has wiped his butt or not, that's how tight his administration will looked in on.

• Sad thing is I think that blind followers (including a few on this board) will defend McCain and remain loyal to them. As for the undecided and those already loyal to Obama...it could gain McCain some ground as history has shown that scare tactics work on the largely politically uneducated masses. That scares me A LOT!

I hope Obama has a strong respnse ready for this eventuality.

Well hate is such a strong word but it is scary that she wants to seek more powers for the VP executive office.

The people that are worried by all that were never going to vote for Obama anyway.

Remember when Obama came out and asked the press to back off Palin and her family? He's a better person than those two will ever be.

ALL ABOARD THE SWIFT BOAT .... TOOT TOOT.

When your stump speeches start to sound like Sean Hannity, you know, your campign's in trouble ... sure sign of a desparate campaign. But, I'll bet they had this planned all along, it was just a matter of using it if they needed it, and, they need it.

There was a lot of talk about how the white, middle America, undecideds would have a tough time going into the booth and actually voting for a black man (pundit speak, not mine) ... so, I had a feeling they'd try and put a little something in everyone's mind for their walk to the polls.

I don't think the Ayers stuff will stick ... again, Obama was 8 when the Weathermen were doing their thing ... Ayers hasn't been anywhere near that radical in decades, surely not while Obama has known him. People have dug and dug, and nothing big has really come up.

Rezko ... a little troubling, but, the Obama campaign gave back (or gave to charity) all the money he donated to their campaign ... I don't think this will stick either. Getting the chap loan on the propoerty Rezko's wife bought next door to, well, I'm not happy about it, but, again, don't think that will affect much.

Wright ... this might scare of some people. "Not God Bless America, God damn America!" ... "The U S of KKK A" ... while I know these are two small clips over Wright's long career, and I don't think Obama has any feelings like that within him ... these images can be jarring to white people, especially in the Northern Pensylvania, Ohio, rust belt like regions.

I think the McCain campaign is going after Ayers first ... I caught the tail end of an interview this monring where an Obama campign spokesman was brushing it off ...

It'll be intersting to see if these things are brought up in the debates. Hillary brought it up (or was it Stephanopolous? ... same thing, right?)

It'll also be intersting to see if Obama goes on the counter offensive ... possibly in regards to the Keating 5 scandal (some what topical) ... very doubtful in regards to his personal life (leaving wife #1 for Cindy).

Umm ya that is scary especially since there is a chance she could be president some time in the next 4 years.

• Does this legitimize the idea of Obama/the democrats talking about the Palins' association with the Alaska Independence Party?

Can you imagine if Michelle Obama or Jill Biden once belonged to a secessionist group? The flag-wavin' bible thumpers on the far-right would have a fucking fit. And yet, those same people just looooove Sarah Palin and her "First Dude".

McCain is using Palin as a ventriloquist dummy. They look to me to be shrill and desparate. I don't believe it will work. I do think, however, it would be a good idea if you support Obama, to go send him another $25. I did.

Every time I think of William Ayers, I also think of John McCain, because they are of the same era, and they both believed in the efficacy of violence. According to an article in Friday's New York Times, McCain once said of Ayers, "How can you countenance someone who was engaged in bombings that could have or did kill innocent people?" He had to use that "could have or did" because no one knows if bombs Ayers built actually killed anyone -- let's say that the odds are against it. Likewise, no one knows whether the bombs John McCain dropped on North Vietnam ever killed anyone. According to McCain's biography, "With the outbreak of the Vietnam War, McCain volunteered for combat duty and began flying carrier-based attack planes on low-altitude bombing runs against the North Vietnamese. ...On October 26, 1967, during his 23rd air mission, McCain´s plane was shot down during a bombing run over the North Vietnamese capital of Hanoi." Let's say, given those twenty-three bombing runs, the odds are for McCain having killed some innocents. How can you countenance someone who was engaged in bombings that could have or did kill innocent people, John?

It's pretty smart too... have a good looking "regular" hockey mom say all this stuff instead of McCain.

I know that's the VP's job, to deliver all the jabs so the Pres. candidate doesn't have to... but it is probably even more effective and harder for people to see the hypocrisy when she does it while looking pretty and smiling.

From the article:
"Palin cited an article in Saturday's New York Times about Obama's relationship with Ayers, now 63. But that article concluded that "the two men do not appear to have been close. Nor has Mr. Obama ever expressed sympathy for the radical views and actions of Mr. Ayers, whom he has called 'somebody who engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago, when I was 8.' "

In previous versions of this story, the National Review was incorrectly included among publications cited as debunking the idea that Sen. Barack Obama and Bill Ayers, a founder of the radical Weather Underground, had a close relationship. Several other publications, including the Washington Post, Time magazine, the Chicago Sun-Times, The New Yorker and The New Republic, have debunked the idea that Obama and Ayers had a close relationship.

Riot and bomb conspiracy charges against Ayers were dropped in 1974, and he is now a professor of education at the University of Illinois in Chicago."
Ayers was never tried (therefore, never convicted) for the crimes."
...
It's like saying that a friend or family member of yours is a recovering alcoholic, therefore, your character comes into question because of your relationship to them. Is that a true statement?

Today I saw the oddest political sign. It was on a busy corner atleast 8ft X 3ft almost blocked out the house and it said...

SARAH! and below it in small lettering...
McCain/Sarah Palin

I wanted to take a picture but I didn't have my camera.

If it had any truth at all, the McCain campaign would've whipped that badboy of an attack out a long time ago. Obama wouln't even be a nominee. I think it's pretty clear that McCain saved that one for a rainy day and when he had nothing left to lose. Then he let Palin say it so as to keep himself from looking like a total douche. Knowing now what kind of person Palin really is, I can't help but feel sorry for Alaskans.
