I think gun registrants should have to pass a mandatory IQ test in the above average or higher range.

    .

There's no reason to take guns away from all liberals like that.

lol... one of the first questions on the list should be "have you ever turned the back of your pickup truck into a swimming pool" :p

My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

I might. My IQ is ~105, which is average. Meaning i wouldn't be allowed to have a gun.

...and you are above average? Lemme guess, 115? 120?

Officially I don't know. The internet ones peg me 120ish. Lemme tell you I don't always feel that way...quite the contrary. Far too much partying in my teenage years. My brother is genius level, and has a Phd.... but he never smoke or drank. I on the other hand, would make a good "don't do drugs" commercial for kids.

I had a shit load more fun growing up though. Ah... it's not that bad I guess. I keep telling myself that...

    lol...

That seems a little exadurated.........I love it when 1 event sparks a generalization of the US as a whole. The mass media has a way of drilling that fear into the minds of people, though. I could be wrong, but I'm willing to bet that most of the population does not fear being shot on a day to day basis nor do we wake up every morning thinking that there will be a gunfight wherever we go. I love it when people try to say that gun owners are promoting fear when anti-gun activists also try to generate fear by making statements, such as the quote above, out of pure ignorance.

OK, it's true that I don't live in teh US, and have to base my ideas on what I see in teh media. What I saw in teh media the other day was this.....

The gun shop owner who sold Cho his handgun lamenting the fact that there were 25 000 UNARMED students on the VT campus on the day of the shooting. When asked about the gun buy-back in Australia, he said "it broke my heart". He has zero remorse about providing the means of death for 32 people. He clearly has no intention of being more selective about who he sells guns to in the future.

Sorry if that blew me away. That attitude suggested pretty clearly that some people at lest, think that every adult should carry a gun every day.

If the gun shop owner had refused to sell a minority or a woman a gun, chances are he would be sued for discrimination and forced to close his shop because of spiraling legal fees.

Which comment actually gels with the racism thread. If he refused a white guy a gun cos he thought he was nuts, no drama. Refuse a minority, and it's discrimination, regardless of what other issues were at stake.
In any case, that issue was not raised. The dialogue was entirely about the issues I noted.

And so America is headed back to teh days of teh wild west when every man had to carry a gun to survive, and deadly force ruled, and the quickest on teh draw lived to tell the tale.

Did it ever occur to any of you that that was not a great way to live ???? In armed defensive fear ????
Yeah, you're right. We should just let the government take away everything that this country was founded on. Sounds good to me. That way, we can be just like the country the original people of this country left. (not the Indians, the English and Irish and those people.)

    my stance:

it's not the wild wild west anymore. why do people feel the need to own guns in this day and age?

    Simple:
I am handicapped and live alone. A gun is the only thing that can immediately level the playing field between a physically superior attacker and the victim.

Don't get me wrong though, I NEVER want to use it for self defense.

I would never want to use my gun, but I'm a young single woman who lives alone. I've got a great set of lungs to yell for help, but I'd rather not have to rely on other people coming to my defense.

Here's a story to spark a little more controversy, lol.
"A TEENAGER was shot three times when robbers burst into his home — to steal his Xbox."
Take a wild guess what country this was in! I find it funny how they talk about how "this is the sort of thing you'd expect in America"..........What a bunch of bullshit, from now on, I guess this is the sort of thing we should expect to happen in GB! Wait.........don't they have more strict gun laws than the US? Glad I don't live there...........they'll probably ban the XBOX now, lol. Anyways, here's the article.

you have 5 times the population of the UK and yet for every one story you find like that i could post 785 like that that happen daily in the States.

    perhaps America should ban idiocy
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.
