This thread really gave me a good laugh. The piece is a comedy bit, nothing to get upset about. Trust me, I'm from the southeast US and the same kind of jab on southerners by other Americans is very common. People, we need to be able to laugh at ourselves! I'm a big fan of comedy and there are plenty of bits about folks from other countries.
I was also thinking about the reason why a lot of non-americans know quite a lot about America, while Americans don't know all that much about other cultures & countries. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems that other countries are very interested in American culture and are exposed to American culture, probably via the media. I do not think this is the case for Americans. Sadly, I think a lot of Americans are not interested or concerned with other countries. I don't think this has much to do with IQ as much as with the fact that most are not really interested.

I completely accept that our education up to 12th grade is lacking in many areas. On the other hand, you can recieve a great college education in the states.
