Jesus is a myth. Myths don't have plans.I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Your nature is to do harm, mine is to love truth, and to make it public in spite of you. - Voltaire0 -
...deadnothingbetter wrote:you're absolutely right... that's why i am not a christian myself... but merely a child of God. you should be too.
Which is exactly where I am right now. I don't know who God is... but, the more I talk to 'religious' people, the more I'm convinced He is not that guy portrayed in the Bible. God isn't so sinister as to place the temptation of the tree of knowledge in the same garden with Adam and Eve and forbid them to eat it... a 'smart' God would have placed the damn forbidden tree in fricken' East Bumfukin', Paraguay... or not created it in the first place. I don't think God fucks with us. He loves us too much to treat us like pets.
The Bible needs only these simple words:
'God says, "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you".'Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

I got it, wear sandals, preach about Sin and pretend you speak on behalf of God.I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Do you know how the term Elohim relates to Genesis 3:22?I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Act like what, exactly? i already stated that this crowd is equally guilty of soundbite distortion of scripture. Personally, as a Christian, i do not support capital punishment or war, and any opposition i may have to gay marriage has nothing to do with biblical scripture. In fact its a minor issue at best. So just how have i acted? What, i'm a hypocrite because i expect you to back up claims about scripture with context (which contrary to what you say, you did in fact remove) and FULL comprehension? i expect the same thing of Christians. i'm no hypocrite in this manner, and YOU make gross generalizations and blanket indictments founded in bias sprinkled with a tad of ignorance.Cosmo wrote:...
See... this is EXACTLY what turns me away from Christianity. People who claim to be followers of Jesus and act like this.
This 'Old Trick' you speak of is EXACTLY what Christians use to justify their actions as sanctioned by the Bible:
Death penalty = "An eye for an eye".
Gay Marriage = "An abomination" (from Leviticus)
War = "I come not in Peace, but with the sword" - Jesus
and on and on and on and on...
...
Every example... one line, taken out of context. And old trick I learned back in my days as a Christian.
...
I didn't like the hypocracy back then... and i still don't like it. I'll find God along my own way."When all your friends and sedatives mean well but make it worse... better find yourself a place to level out."0 -
Elohim, is, in essence, the Hebrew term for God. One need not have attended seminary to know that. It is relatively common knowledge. Once again, your attempts to impress fall short.Ahnimus wrote:Do you know how the term Elohim relates to Genesis 3:22?"When all your friends and sedatives mean well but make it worse... better find yourself a place to level out."0 -

Wrong!
Elohim is the plural of Eloha. Eloha means God.I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. You asked a question... I answered it. You side-stepped it and tried to claim that my response was invalid when it was right on the money. You continue to try to discredit my response as dumb trickery... tricks I learned FROM Christians trying to support their acts by claiming devine sanction.
You act in the EXACT SAME MANNER as every other Christian I have talked to, proclaiming I am wrong or incorrect or biased. Just man up and say it... i have debunked your point that "NO HOLY TEXT condone killing".
Unless the Bible is not considered Holy Text.
...
AGAIN... Let's recap:
Cornnifer Asks the question: "Can you point to one passage, in any "religious" holy book, that condones killing?"
Cosmo answers.
Cornnifer cannot accept fact. Goes into Typical Christian response mode.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

Those would be good moral folks who were raised in other religions, cultures, etc, who never got to know that Christ is the Son of God and culturally wouldn't ever accept it because it's such a foreign concept to them. Perhaps someone who is an informed Catholic could help me out here.
I am a Christian, but not Catholic, but I tend to agree with this as well. I don't think a God so compassionate as to sacrific His own Son would condemn the (in this context) unknowing to an eternity in hell. I could be wrong, but I guess it makes me feel better to think that way. Plus it makes sense to me.
I'm a non-practicing Catholic, and yes you're right. Under Catholicism you can't be condemned if you dont follow Jesus teachings cause you're unaware of him and his doings. Meaning Jesus won't send to hell anybody that doesn't acknowledge him. I remember a priest told me this when I took the first (and last) communion (like 20 years ago
).
I remember when The Last Temptation of Christ(Scorsese's movie) came out it was a big fuss here in Latin America and several countries banned the film and the Church said it would ex-comulgate catholics that went to see it. I did not know this (not that I would care
), but after reading this on the newspaper I asked a priest, that used to play tennis at my club, just for curiosity, and he told me that since I watched the movie without knowing that it could lead such penalty I was OK...
