"Ask an atheist if he or she believes in the existence of aliens? If they answer, "no," then ask them how do they know that? Have they gone to all the other galaxies throughout the universe? The truth is that no atheist can reasonably deny the existence of alien life. To do so would be utter ignorance. If an atheist answers, "yes," then they have contradicted their claim that there is no God. Is not God an Alien? By every definition of the word, God is an alien, i.e., He is not of this earth. For an atheist to profess believe is alien life, while simultaneously denying the existence of God, is utter hypocrisy and foolishness."

This is the most humorous thing that I've read all day. It was posted on another message board and I couldn't resist responding.

    Here is my response:

    Discuss. :)

Is that not like anybody who believes in religion knocking somebody for saying the are the next Jesus or Mohammad? There can't be anybody after them or is a religious persons mind so small that they can believe somebody can be the next after 2000 years+. Stupid question I tell you!
You've changed your place in this world!

Using logic to prove (or disprove) God's existence is somewhat ironic. Faith is a personal matter and we all have reasons to believe or not, it's useless to try and prove others wrong, especially with logical and/or scientific arguments.

Because throughout history there is not one instance where religion has left the personal sphere of a particular believer and impacted upon others.....this is why it is important.

And why is it useless? Is it useless to try and show people that there political beliefs are misguided? or a number of other personal beliefs that people hold are wrong. Why not have open discussion about religion like we do for a number of other things that are also personal in some sense?

I don't think that Kann is saying discussing religion is pointless or irrelevant, just that faith by its very definition is impossible to prove with logic or science. It requires a belief that can't be proven right or wrong. Sure, people have converted for one reason or another, but it certainly isn't because someone came up with an equation that proves one religion is the only correct one. Faith is based on what we're told and our personal experience, not by scientific proof and bonafide facts.

actually adam and eve had 3 sons. abel cain and seth.

youll notice in the bible that there was a lot of begatting with hardly, if any mention of woman. i have been told that just cause women arent/hardly ever mentioned doesnt mean they werent there. just another example of patriarchy at work.

I didn't say it religion isn't important. The repeated mistake of trying to explain and spread our personal faith is important enough that we learn from it.

I'm not talking of religion but faith as fowls said. Mixing religion and politics is another big mistake perpetrated by man. It is my opinion that faith should be something kept for oneself, you may challenge this opinion with facts and logic, unlike my faith (or lack of).
  • What if all this universe exists in the firing of one synapse some gigantic things brain....but it has no idea we're here.

Just like we can't look into quarks and recognize stuff...it's all purely random.

    powers of 10 anyone?
    http://micro.magnet.fsu.edu/primer/java/scienceopticsu/powersof10/

Notice that exponents 10 to the (-10) and 10 to (-11) resemble stars and outer space? well....that's a single carbon atom. The building blocks of all life earth.

I don't subscribe to planks constant....it's nonsense in my opinion. I say infinite big, infinite small. You can always cut something in half and have a piece of it/something left over to cut in half again. There can be no such thing as nothing in this universe. there is always something, and it's extremely easily proven with simple logic.

Absolute nothingness is not observed in this universe.

Therefore we are everything and nothing at the same time. Perfect for this filter in magnitude along the scale of infinity.
wait.... but.... sometime ago awhile back you were discussing that everything has been predetermined. so how could you also say it happens at random?

i've felt that way at times, but other times i think that any justification towards the spiritually healing & non-domineering strains of religion will only lead to the justification of the more intently sinister strains. right now is one of those times. :D i just think there are other, non-superstitious ways for people to better themselves, and i think those ways will work better in the long run.

I believe that you are all correct in saying that God is not of this world. On his first day he created light. His first two creatures were Adam and Eve, made in His form. "Sin" was created by their act with the forbidden apple. Before this, on an atomic level, God is probably everything, from every element, gas, and mineral. He is the Earth's core and beyond the Earth's galaxy. These are all the "elemental" GODS, the ones that the cavemen depended upon in the beginnings of man. Now, we feel more comfortable knowing that God comes in the shapes of man/woman, here to protect us, guide us, teach us how to live proper and decent lives, and how to love.
