I'll say it: I think it's insulting that McCain chose

this woman to try to attract the women that voted for Hillary.

It's as if he thinks "One woman is as good as the next." As if he doesn't realize that people voted for Hillary because they also thought she was a good candidate!

It's maddening!!!

She's pro-life, pro-NRA and thought Hillary was a whiner. The only people who will support her are the Hillaryis44 brigade, and they're just the same three freeper blokes pretending to be women.

Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous. It's a blatant and pathetic grab for women votes. Nice try. As much as I'd like to see a woman president, it sure as hell shouldn't be her. No offense to her personally, but she has no experience.

My hope is that these two people will seem clownish compared to Obama and Biden.

is it wrong that i thought she was really pretty? :)
I didn't think he did this to pander to women so much as to get his own 'flashy'/'historical' type of ticket, and also to deflect media attention away from Obama's speech.

Seriously though, Gov Palin has very little experience at the state level and no experience with foreign policy! And John McCain is 72 years old! The chances of her becoming the president are pretty good.
And she doesn't like the cute little polar bears.

How can she seriously even think of keeping the polar bears off the endangered species list? NPR report today - the ice is at it's second lowest level in the 30 years that they've kept track...and it's supposed to pass that level in the next couple weeks.

She is pretty, but so what? Pretty women are a dime a dozen. :)

It did seem like an act of desperation didn't it? That speech must have frightened him.

All Hillary has to do is publicly poo-poo Palin, to "terminate with extreme prejudice", figuratively speaking of course, and that's that sorted. I think she might even do it.

A strong independent woman being nomiated as VP is maddening to you...

but a woman being degraded by her husband throughout her entire adult life, and her taking it, and refusing to stand up for herself b/c of her own political ambitions is not maddening to you?

this vs. a bad ass woman who rolls into her state capitol standing up to the good ole boys not caring what anyone thinks...but standing on what she KNOWS is right

seriously, who do you admire more on a personal level more? who do you think is more independent as a woman? who would you rather have your daughter be? hillary, or palin?

    seems like an obvious decision.

She's a pro-life supporter with five kids. Hardly an Angela Davis.

    Are you insane?

I wouldn't vote for her because I wouldn't vote for a man that had her beliefs. It's insulting that they are trying to attract Hillary's women JUST BECAUSE SHE'S FEMALE. That's the part I'm angry about.

I'd much rather vote for Hillary because I liked her as a candidate.

Take another look at her introduction speech today. When she's speaking and Sen. McCain is standing behind her, is it me or is he totally looking at her arse?

You seem unwilling to consider that there were other factors involved in their choice. She may or may not be attractive to a few Hillary supporters. But she will likely be attractive to the conservative wing of the party that still doesn't completely embrace McCain. She brings some of the evangelicals in with her pro-life position. She brings the 2nd ammendment crowd in, who generally distrust McCain. She brings conservative women to the table. Why you are so fixated on the Hillary aspect is baffling.

She's exceptionally pretty. Hot, even! With 5 kids! I think that factored into it. "ooh people will vote for the hot chick." I don't think it was an act of desperation. It was meant to get attention, and in that alone it succeeded.

I hear what people are saying about how he was going for the 'hilary vote' but honestly I think he was trying to be more 'flashy,' like 'oh Obama made history last night, I'm going to make history today,'

it's historical that she is the first female GOP VP candidate. That's what I was thinking when I saw it.

I support women in general being in high level positions such as she is, I find that to be impressive, but I don't agree with any of her beliefs.

I'm not unwilling to consider the other factors, I'm just having an emotional reaction to what I believe was his main motivation in choosing her rather than the many other people he could have chosen.

There's no way McCain is going to win solely with that base (as there is no way Obama will win with the traditional Democratic base, although he has a much better shot with the large injection of previously unregistered voters. Obama has done well with independents, as had McCain in previous campaigns, and McCain needs to get those if he wants the election. Will Palin bring in independents? Maybe. We'll see.

I completely agree with you. I wasn't trying to suggest that the selection of Palin locks up the election for McCain, I just think it shores up a big chunk of the party that he was unable to capture. Since he has throw the conservative wing of the party a bone, I agree with you that he now needs to focus his efforts on the independents. He has spent too much time the last few years right up W's ass. It is time for him to extract himself, get cleaned up, and reintroduce himself to the independents he seems to have abandoned.
