    I agree
  • Maybe we can actually see that negotioations DO work and put it to good use w/ Iran.

'Delegates from the two Koreas, the US, China, Japan and Russia had spent from Thursday until late Monday night in Beijing, hammering out the final details.'

Why kudos just to the U.S?

I wonder if other countries - the U.S? - will now follow suit and also begin abiding by the non-proliferation treaty which it signed up to?

Isn't it amazing how great diplomacy and negotiations work? Each side states its case and compromises are agreed upon and we basically end up only paying 250 million for them to cease their current path. I think it's great.

I hope so too. but if Iran is assisting in the killing of US soldiers they need to be dealt with. or we should sit down with them and ask them nicely not to do it?

Curious of your opinions everyone. Do you think Korea will stay peaceful?
Also think any more countries will pursue the Nuclear lifestyle in search of a billion dollar aid deal?

I could almost gaurantee you that when temperatures were rising surrounding nukes and North Korea that people on this board weren't distributing the blame.

Look at your response. It's like you are incapable of admitting that the US did something good/great for the world. Do you hate the US that much that you willfully will not see the good?

Well, it's not the just the US, right? Kudos to all of them.

I still think it's hypocritical, though.

Definitely kudos to all of them. And to those who ever compained about they issue the should own up to the fact that they were wrong. That in the long run it was handled properly.

Well look at that. I am amazed at what talks and not bombs can do. Good on all the countries that participated, and hammered a deal out. Until NK runs this new chapter of money into the ground and pipe up with somemore outrageous demands. Didn't Clinton appease them not too long ago. Of course with money and not bombs, but how long can the cycle continue. Again, good that there were no shots fired.
You've changed your place in this world!

i hope this works out. diplomacy can be a headache at times, but with results like these i think it is well worth it.

I'm doubtful. Almost a year ago or maybe its been a year, a deal like this was made and a few days later it was broken when the North Koreans decided not to go through with it.

What about the weapons that they might already have made? I didn't read anything about them handing those over.

Hopefully this works out, but I don't feel too likely that it will.

Regarding your first paragraph, i don't understand it. 'People on this board weren't distributing the blame'? Distributing what blame? And against who should blame have been distributed?

Regarding your second paragraph, a group of countries, some of which have more influence on Korea than America - i.e, Japan - got together and negotiated with North Korea to accept a deal whereby it would gain a quantity of fuel in return for shutting down one of it's reactors. This is a good move, but it will do nothing to reduce the quantity of nuclear arms in the world. North Korea will never completely disarm because it's leaders aren't suicidal. This is a token gesture to attempt to restore some semblance of harmony in that region. The fact is that this deal probably benefits Japan more than it benefits the U.S.

Dudes, we already have nuclear power, we are supplying most of the eastern seaboard.

Eh, we don't need your money either. Although, it would be nice if you'd actually pay what our resources are worth.

I'm wondering... where are all the 'Anti-Appeasement' voices in all of this? I recall that when discussion of talks with North Korea came up in the past... several people here called them 'Appeasement Talks' and likened them to Prime Minister Chamberlain's appeasement agreement with Hitler.
Where are those people and how do they feel about these negotiations?

Then additional kudos to the US for not being self-serving and thinking of the world first. Thanks for bringing that up.
