You're saying 99% of people that own guns can't conceptualize how they work???

    That's an amazing statement.

conceptualisation of a how a gun works and actually making one are 2 different things. i can conceptualise how the atom bomb works, but i wouldnt be able to make one.

amazing statements are my thing... ;)
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

you can say it but it would be nothing like it... not unless the US is fond of rounding up 6 million people and killing them?

I can't imagine that. Because you all know how to make guns and bombs.

Who cares if they take away your guns? Just make a new one. Perhaps that's the solution. Anyone who can make a gun, can keep it. That should reduce the number of guns in the US significantly.

if you seriously think that your countries people are capable of rounding up 6million liberals and gassing them then i'm afraid i cant take any more of your posts seriously.

why do you people live in such fear?

fear of being raped, burgled, fear of having 2nd amendments removed, fear of liberals, right wingers,.. do you people leave your house?

you never made a potato gun as a kid?

btw....the Atom bomb is not a good comparison,,,,

it's easier to make a gun than it is to make a bicycle,,,it's the context... I can conceptualize making an airplane since it's already been invented and the idea is not farfetched... it would just take me a few years to make a good airplane... I could probably make a pretty decent gun in a few days or weeks....

my point is the technology won't just disappear because you would like to "wish-away" the handguns....this is the simple fact of the matter....

As much as I believe alcoholic beverages are way more detrimental to society than firearms I'm not so simple-minded to think that banning alcohol would be the solution either. Afterall I think 99% of the world's alcoholics wouldn't know how to make beer or whiskey but if you take their booze away I bet they would figure it out before the weekend;)

Well.... I don't really either but wouldn't it be easier to do if the population was disarmed?

Is it that hard to understand?

you've raised a good point with the bold bit above... most gun killings are usually not pre-planned... now i get pissed off quite often, but even at my maddest i wouldnt think to myself "i'll show that fucker, i'll build me a gun and in about 2 weeks time i'll go back and shoot him with it"... but if i had a gun in my drawer and i was angry enough, perhaps, just perhaps, i might use it and regret my actions forever?

the point is... America has a problem with guns. simple fact. you also appear to have a fear of a lot of things... makes me thankful i live where i live...

heres something i once did here, i was drunk and i walked into what i thought was my friends house... it wasnt... it was the house 3 doors down!! if that was in America i might be dead... as it was in Scotland the guy got a fright and then sent me on my way :o

More children die from drunk idiots than gun idiots. Let's ban alcohol.

    Same argument.

Well i'm sure more people are drinking than buying guns, so the figures don't really match up.

But I'll tell you a bad combo, a drunk idiot with a gun.

Just a devil's advocate argument--but does it matter to the parent's of a dead child whether it was an irresponsible firearm owner or a drunk driver?

    Isn't the argument about people?

If we can make the argument that a certain number of casualties are alright in regards to alcohol, couldn't we make the same argument about firearms?

Also, I don't hear a lot of statistics about school shootings from the 1950s or 60s. Shit, the only school shooting I can think of involved the National Guard. Were guns not as prevalent? Were people just more responsible by nature? Were gun laws that much stricter, if at all?

this is where we think differently, I would make a homemade gun as soon as they took the real ones away.... I would have it ready to go for the first time I got real American gunlovin mad :D

really though...I've been around guns all my life and have had my share of knuckeldusters, but I've never been mad enough to ever consider using a gun... it has never crossed my mind...

I did pull it one night when I thought our house was being burglarized ( turned out to be a racoon) and I must say it was nice to have, even though I didn't have to shoot the 'coon.

and this is why your children die at a rate 12 times more than the next 25 most industrialised nations in the world... COMBINED.. thats take the 25 most affluent nations, add up the total number of kids who have dies and your total is still 12 times that???!?!?

but thanks for the Ramboesque posts... i sincerely hope that statistic never affects you.

    what about this scenario?

most likely i would have been shot?

really? what would be the moral of this story be?

yeah you could be shot here, or someone could stab you or kill you with an aluminum baseball bat or numerous means to your unlikely end be it in Scotland or wherever. I wouldn't shoot a burglar anyway but I'd scare the shit outta him.

Do they not hunt in Scotland? Were people pissed when they took away the guns?

Ok, setting aside all the stats about gun related deaths in America and what causes people to shoot each other............. my question is this..

Whats the attraction for wanting to have a gun?

I mean plenty would say it's for protection, but most responsible gun owners wouldn't keep a loaded gun in the house........ and well, if threatened, an unloaded gun is about as useful as a loaf of bread. So, whats the attraction for wanting to own one?
I'd like to see some thoughts on this too. Anyone?

If a single bullet cost $1000, would people be so quick to pull the trigger?

Think of it like Insurance. You insure your home, your car, your personal contents, your life even. Some people are saying here that they want to own a gun to feel 'safer''. So purchase your 'safety gun' and buy a few bullets if it makes you feel 'safer'. I'm just wondering if it would make people think twice before they used them if there was a significant monetary cost involved.

I paid $2,300 for car Insurance when i first started driving......Never hoped i would have to us it, but it was there just in case i needed it.

    Hilarious....

Was it Chris Rock that said bullets should be $5000? You'd really have to have a good reason to shoot someone.

Why hilarious. i dont own a gun, have no intentions of, and i doubt that i could ever shoot anyone. Like i said, it was just some thoughts thinking out loud. Why didn't you at least offer any thoughts as to why you clearly think its a bad idea.

We've had that happen here where I live. There was a harmless young man who wasn't drunk, but had some kind of mental problems that led him home to the wrong house. He was shot and killed.

And I know of another situation - happened to a friend's brother in another state. The guy, who had always been a normal person, had some kind of psychotic break. He went into the wrong house, thinking it was his. When he saw the people who lived there, he thought they were intruders in his house. They pulled a gun on him and he took it away from them. He fired it, supposedly at the ground to scare them. Thankfully no one was hurt, but now he's in prison for life for attempted murder.

Every gun owner has a different set of reasons for owning one. I personally like guns because they are loud. All my hobbies involve loud things (that usually explode too). I also belive that all the other rights given to us by the constitution mean nothing without the means todefend those rights.
