GONE is by far the worst song this band has EVER conceived

  • A few things on gone...

Haven't heard the AC 2005 version, but I did hear Ed perform it before Camden I on 5/27/06 and solo it does have a little more soul as many of the pit has described. However, I would argue that Gone is WAY better live compared to the record and has that same soul because Ed can get more into it.

With this said though I would not go and attack it as being the worst pearl jam song ever. I haven't read all 15 pages of posts so I can't quote all the songs people thing are worse than Gone, but I too will admit there have been less amusing songs released. I'm not going to state a song that I hate because I really don't hate any, though I will admit there are periods when I just get tired of hearing certain songs played night in and night out. Anyone who has read the setlists know what I'm talking about.

I suggest and obvious solution that many of your have probably already done. I remade avacado using live tracks only from the 2006 tour. I like it more since it captures a rawness that avacado studio lacks. To me there's nothing like hearing Ed go ,"Two words, three syllables, Life Wasted" and Stone coming in with the riff and letting the sound get you. But that's me.

I do propose this to critics...if you hate Gone that much...produce something better...or continue using your First Amendment rights and blast the thing to hell and back, I'm certainly not going to stop you or critize for commentary and thinking, just at least have a solid arguement like, "It's this part I hate" or "That part I hate," don't just hate something, know why you hate it at least...and because it sucks isn't a good answer...why does it suck...and I mean apply this to every PJ song you may critize...

Final thoughts: For the record, hate me if you want, I'm pro-Gone...the lyric touches me in way that can only be described if you have experienced in some way what Ed describes...

Oh and for haters of come back...again listen to the live versions particularly East Rutherford I...hearing it live made me a fan again because of the soul Ed can put in the song since it's live not studio...

Love it or hate it kids...that's my two cents...

PS for all bruce fans out there...can someone please tell me how the hell ed got Gone out of Atlantic City...I can play both songs...have no clue how he put them together to get Gone...Bruce uses a capo, Gone doesn't...see East Rutherford Night 2 if your confused on the backstory...

I guess I like Gone because I was there when Ed sang it for the first time.

I was reading this thread and was like.. damn 17 pages already? Then I realized it's from YEARS ago.

Way to revive an old ass thread XD
  • I just listened to three live versions of Gone then the studio version. I really live the live versions (Forum, Albany, WPB), the drums and guitar come in harder on the chorus, I think it makes all the difference. I'm hoping they play Gone at a show or two this time around.

I believe that Gone is one of the worst songs Pearl Jam has put on a studio album. And it's sister song is equally as bad (Dissident). Both are set killers when preformed live. They really bring the show to a screeching hault

The worst crowd killer is No More. It's the equivalent of Eddie just standing there smoking a cigg in complete silence with guitar reverb ringing out hurting everyone ears

How in the world can anyone like Sweet Lew???? I mean, I know music is subjective, but not Sweet Lew...it's 100% fact that that song is barely listenable. ;)

I'm curious if anyone actually likes No More.

I think there are 3 groups of people: 1)people who just tolerate it and keep their mouth shut because it's about someone in a shitty situation, 2)people that just hate Bush and the government and like it just for that reason, 3) people who never admit when anyone in the band misses and love anything they do just because they idolize the band so much.

Does anyone actually like it? I mean like as in you go to a show and hope to hear Eddie come out and play it

I've seen what Gone does to crowds. It's like an encore in the middle of a set
