i accidentally stumbled upon this song shuffling through my i-pod.
it actually infuriates me that such a talented bunch of musicians can come up with such a heap of total shit. fuck it pains my ears it's so terrible.

thank you very much

What are you talking about...granted it's not their best. You wanna tell me Whale Song and Sweet Lew are better than Gone?

Personally I liked it more how Eddie played it solo in AC. Not their best song. But not their worst either. Just eh.

    Bought a plastic bag
    The bottom fell out
It was a piece of crap

    Saw it on the tube
    Bought it on the phone
    Now you're home alone
    It's a piece of crap

I tried to plug in it
I tried to turn it on
    When I got it home
It was a piece of crap

    Got it from a friend
    On him you can depend
I found out in the end
It was a piece of crap

I'm trying to save the trees
    I saw it on TV
    They cut the forest down
To build a piece of crap

I went back to the store
    They gave me four more
The guy told me at the door
    It's a piece of crap

I remember saying this when the album came out. I got all kinds of shit thrown at me. Now, 18 months later, the song still stands out as the most annoying pearl jam song to me. I can't listen to it anymore... This song and Get Right are probably the only pj songs I have to skip over.

I do like the version Ed played by himself in AC though. He was able to give the song some soul when he played it alone.

It's still the same bloody song though. Same lyrics, same chord progression. How can you hate the song so much but then actually like a version of it? That just doesn't make sense.

As has been said, it's not great but by no means even near their worst either. Evacuation owns thats title anyway.

Seems that way, personally I love gone. Especially the version from the AOL Session.

Its actually been a while since I have listened to AC version, so I might think different of it now. I remember liking it, and then being very disappointed when I heard the album version.

Its the chorus that bothers me.

without a doubt yes. Sweet Lew and the Whale Song might not get 1000 people singing in chorus but it's something different, something ballsy.

anyway, i'm not looking to bash the guys, it just really struck me this morning just how bad Gone really is.

oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

That is just a retarded comment.

So if I find my best friend to be annoying one day, should I completely forget about him and go find a new one?? Makes little sense to me.

  • I like Gone, always have. Not their worst by far.

I do think people say these things just to get a reaction sometimes.... *rolls eyes*
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.

  • Mmm, Gone.

I like it. Was also preparing to leave a certain place when the album was released, so it meant a lot to me.

I'm gone now (long gone, hehehe!). Still like the song.

Watching Sesame Street 20-odd years ago, I learned from Bert and Ernie that different people like different things. And that's okay :)
