I thought internet dating had pretty widespread acceptance these days? I know many people who do/have done it, across widely different age ranges & know of 2 marriages that have come for it - a 30something woman & a 50something guy who met their now spouses online. I feel it's better than just goin down to the pub really as you can vet & get to now people better & without beer goggles on.

I would put this thread somewhere in between the pub and online dating. I actually know someone in his 20s who found a great partner on eharmony (i think it was that one) and theyre doing well, and not remotely ashamed/embarrassed about how they met. A few years ago they only people I knew who admitted to using match.com were the ones who were using it for hit & runs, but i think since Grindr came into existance I think that market has moved. My point is online dating has definitely evolved, to a place where it's safer/more socially acceptable.
That said there are still some people uncomfortable with the concept of online dating, but not uncomfortable with posting in forums on fansites. If you fall into that category, I see no reason why posting in a 'singles' thread would make you creepy. You already know there's at least some common ground (unlike at the pub ... unless you consider alcohol common ground), and you don't have to deal with filling out an online dating profile.
