Holy shit. So they found out today that Leroi died and are playing RIGHT now?
That is probably going to be their most incredible show they have ever put on. Whats sad is that there are probably still a bunch of drunk idiots dancing around clueless.

WOW Im in shock! This was the band that got me through high school and one of the most inspirational artists during that time was Leroi Moore. I keep listening to Lover Lay Down with that sweet sax solo.
do they do stickies in "other music" often? i see the new shawn smith album is a sticky... but thats more of a friendly promotional thing... not that im opposed... i just assume DMB fans would rather discuss this further on the DMB boards

The DMB boards are a cluster fuck right now. Its 1345 posts about the same thing, sad really!
So sad. DMB has long been my second favorite band after PJ.
My heart goes out to them and the rest of Leroi's friends and family. DMB will never be the same without them.
I saw DMB in Bristow, VA in what I think was the last show before Leroi's accident. He was amazing as always. They'll never be quite the same without him.
RIP Leroi! You will be missed!

hi all....just got back....i apologize if my thoughts are bit confusing
bartender - i've always had a dep personal connection to this song....one of the best friends i ever had died of cancer 6 years ago of cancer and at the time i was listening to "the lillywhite sessions" constantly.....whenever i hear bartender think about him....
shortly before they started i thought they might open with it.....their faces were "pulled and tense" but not sad....shock....one they're best friends died and were playing music kinda look
next was proudest monkey.....rashawn ross was in tears.....carter was in tears....boyd and tim were wearing shades....dave and fonzi didn't seem to cry from what i can see....
when dave announced gto the crowd that leroi had died, the crownd was taken aback....i saw the news here at 6....most people going to the show were already on they're way....no around us that were they before we got there knew what happened....
but let me tell ya....once they got those first few songs out of the way....they burned the place down....literally....talking heads 'burning down the house'
sledgehammer!!! peter gabriels sledgehammer...afterwhich, dave said that they were playing leroi's favorties tonight
during the encore dave told a story about leroi....leroi was playing in some bar in virgina and dave said that leroi like to drink....leroi was so drunk one night that he used the counter near where he played asa crutch....abd proceeded to play the best version of 'somewhere over the rainbow' dave had ever heard
8.19.08 Road Crew Notes
We are mourning our fallen brother. As we sat this afternoon, contemplating the news we had just received, we wondered how we could possibly do a show today. Dave put it into perspective stating, "There's no place I'd rather be than here with you guys right now." We cherish special memories of our lost friend. Tonight, Dave told a story about LeRoi at a bar in Virginia where the cash register was near the stage, and LeRoi leaned on the register because "standing had become a chore" and then played the most beautiful version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow. Dave said, "that was the day I fell in love with him." It's safe to say we all were in love with him. "It's always easier to leave, than to be left." -DM

Just one thing I'd like to add to this...
During Bartender...first song of the evening...Dave let out a scream that shook the rafters and my soul.
I've heard him scream before (nobody this side of Roger Daltry or Eddie can scream like Dave), but I've never heard a scream like this.
This was a scream that echoed with anguish.
All in all, I'm glad they played tonight. It felt like the right thing to do.
Their music has always been powerfully emotive, walking that ambiguous line between darkness and joy. That's what tonight was...darkness and joy.
Goodnight LeRoi.

So sad. my friend and my sister were at tonight's show at the Staple Center and my friend texted me when he said Dave made the announcement. I've loved the DMB for years and it's really really sad to lose Leroi. I wonder if Dave Matthews will cancel the rest of the tour. What a horrible year for DMB, first they lose Butch Taylor and now they lose Leroi Moore.
say all the useless hateful things about dmb and their fans (which i am a fan) but who would wish this on any of their enemies? my little brother has been to 10 shows and he says everyone of them got better and better. I feel terrible for the dmb community and i know my brother feels horrible..makes me feel lucky to be alive and healthy. *heres to dmb continuing on*

Prayers & thoughts go out to Roi's family, friends & fans.
I found out last night & was just devastated. Thanks Roi for all you did over the years. DMB is one of my favorite bands.....and they will never be the same again.
Wow, I'm really shocked by this too. I was a BIG DMB fan back in the late '90s, don't follow them as closely as I used to (their last few albums haven't done much for me), but I still see 'em every year...just doesn't feel like it could be summer without a DMB show...saw their July show here in Atlanta and it was really, really good. Terrific live band and very unique, thanks in no small part to LeRoi Moore. Very sad news indeed.
Comments
I've been playing these songs on Winamp as they've come in. LeRoi had some nice moments in the first three songs of this set that I listened to.
my condolences to his family and friends.
He is missed.
