    whatever....

had something to say.,... but changed it.

No one should ever stand in judgement of the actions of those who have just lost a loved one.

That is all I have to say...

Dude...these guys good, good friend just died and you're going to sit in judgement of them... especially when you know none of them personally?

    That's pretty harsh. :(

Don't bother. He made an idiot comment in this thread earlier and everyone ignored him. Let's do the same now.

I think the band itself is by far the best judge of whether they should cancel the show or play their music in his honor.

how is this show still going on?? was he not in the lineup for this tour? seems insensitive IMO not to cancel the show... not commitment... its not like the fans wouldnt understand...

He has not been on the whole tour because of his accident. They have had Jeff Coffin from Bela Fleck and the Flecktones and Tim Reynolds join them for most of the tour. He lives in LA and was going to see the band perform there tonight, from what I understand.

As for insensitive, I think if they do still perform, it would be because it would be what he would want them to do so for the fans. They are very much like PJ in the fact that they really love their fans.

    agreed. thank you.

You quoted me before i changed it...

But yeah. I agree with you 100%.

It's going to be a rough night for all of them I'm sure.

My heart goes out to all of them and his family as well.

Sad, sad news indeed. May he rest in peace.

Is it just me, or does there seem to be more and more ATV-related injuries happening lately? There was a five year old girl in our area who died last weekend from an ATV accident.

I guess they just don't want to let the fans, or LeRoi down, so I understand. I would not be suprised if they cancelled upcoming shows though. I am in shock, such great talent :(

Personally, they may think that it's the best thing to do under the circumstances. Like Pearl Jam and so many other great live bands, these are guys who live for music; maybe there's no place they'd rather be than honoring their friends by playing music together. I don't think I could do the same, but I understand the feeling.
  • Not really sure what to say... kind of reeling with the sadness right now. I've been a DMB fan for a long, long time.

And if they're playing tonight, it's because they feel like it's the right thing to do. End of story. What a difficult night it will be.

Of course, this isn't to say I'm happy that something as this would happen, but often the best music springs from tragedy and loss. I wouldn't be surprised if they laid everything they had out onstage tonight.

I am pretty sure, it will end up being an amazing show because it will be for him, in his honor.

The show is definitely on, Dave just came out to announce the opening band.

i just hope tonights crowd understands the significance of them playing tonight and remains respectful... based on the handful of DMB shows ive been to, their casual fanbase doesnt seem like the type that would sincerely sympathize or allow them to appropriately grieve... im sure word will get out to everyone there though

Apparently not. He just announced the opening band and then left.

For what it's worth, it's as official as can be...

Very shook up about this. I don't think it's really hit me yet and I am still in shock. Saw DMB 3 times this summer and each of them were some of the greatest moments of my life. 2 shows were with LeRoi, 1 was with his replacement Jeff Coffin while he was injured. They are and forever will remain the greatest band on earth and they'll never be the same with LeRoi.

This is of course a statement for another day, but it's quite possible Dave Matthews Band ended today.

And, DMB's site has been remade into a memorial...

Oh I know, as selfish and lame as it sounds, the end of DMB is on my mind and that adds to all of this. There's something about this band that means so much to me that I can't explain.
  • WOW!

I just came home to check out the EV setlist, and ended up seeing the news in this thread. I am a HUGE DMB fan, and have a love for their music in the same respect as PJ, because they make the music that they love, and try to give their fans the best performance night in and night out. DMB is the only other band that I follow around like PJ.

All the best thoughts to his family, his friends, and the rest of the band.

Man :( I'm not a DMB fan, but I definitely respect them as musicians.. I can't begin to imagine how I would feel if a member of PJ or another band I really like died. Condolences to DMB fans :(

This is horrible. His sax use to put me in a wicked mood. I'm not sure how his sound is going to feel now (not to be selfish). He was my 2nd favorite member in the band behind Carter.

Here is a 22 minute song in his memory - https://www.yousendit.com/download/Q01FZHltcWYyWGV4dnc9PQ

antsmarching.org, a DMB fan site, has like 2,000 people trying to view the forum right now and has crashed. Any updates on tonight's show?

    Well, this sucks.

It's a blessing the band just happened to be in LA when LeRoi passed. I really hope they got to be with him and/or his family today.

My prayers go out to the band, LeRoi's family, and to all the DMB fans out there.
    Rock on!
