Esther's here and she's sick?
hi Esther, now we are all going to be sick, thanks
My favorite PJ in order of dates:
11/3/93 - first show not counted
9/8/05 - Winnipeg
10/08/05 - HOB
7/22-23/06 - Gorge ( ok, two, I can't help it )
9/20/06 - Pistoia
12/2/06 - Hawaii
Only PJ is listed because they are the concerts that truly make an impression. I've been to hundreds of concerts from the 60's to the 00's and none compare.
"I'd rather be with an animal." "Those that can be trusted can change their mind." "The in between is mine." "If I don't lose control, explore and not explode, a preternatural other plane with the power to maintain." "Yeh this is living." "Life is what you make it."
I have stubs from about 250 concerts. I am 24. These are my Favorite moments so far.
1. Bob Dylan - Springfield, IL - 7 bucks - General Admission - front middle
2. Smashing Pumpkins 2000 - St. Louis, Mo - General Admission - Watched the show next to Louise Post from Veruca Salt and a Mr. Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins wearing very bad disguises and talking in fake shizzzer film accents.
3. Pearl Jam 2000 - St. Louis - row 3 - I am on Touring Band during given to fly. Im the tall fat kid with blue hair.
4. Green Day 2000 - Kansas City Cow Palace - Dirt Floor - I was front and center the entire show. I had to pee so I fought my way thru the crowd. When I came back I crowd surfed to the front from almost the very back. I ended up back in the spot I was at in between my friends dead center against the rail. Felt Like I was in a movie.
5. The Rentals - 2007 - The show made me feel like I was 15 again when I first go into music. I gotta meet Matt Sharp after the show. I thanked him for all the times I had to play bass on =W=eezer songs bc I figured out all of his bass lines and my friends wouldn't figure them out.
Can't pick one. Somewhere between Charlotte 96, State College 03, Halifax 05 purely for the shows. Or Camden 03, Rutherford 03, St. John's 05, and maybe Hawaii 06 or for all the crazy shit, friends, and partying!
2. Nine Inch Nails & Marilyn Manson w\ Jim Rose Sideshow
Joel Memorial Arena, Winston-Salem, NC 1994
Awesome shit. My first highschool rock concert (saw Metallica in 8th grade) ... won tickets off the radio. Too much to describe. Manson signing my shirt "I was ass fucked by Marilyn" among other memorable-ness.
3. Porno For Pyros
The Masquerade, Atlanta 1996
Saw them a few times (never saw janes, drats!) but this was a dream. Got to watch Perry smoke a joint backstage and talked to Steve Perkins, watched Watt rock out on bass. Martina Topley-Bird (of Tricky fame, anyone?) singing with Perry on stage for some songs. Meeting some kick ass older hippies before the show. Drinking under age with them. All in all fucking great experience.
4. The Meat Puppets
The Windjammer, Isle of Palms, SC 2007
Ok. This just floored me. The inspiration of these two brothers back in action and kicking ass. The fact that they play like the fucking devil is inside of them. The fact that i was so drunk, and moshing, and having fun. And the setlist was great. And we were on the beach.
5. Dubtribe Sound System
Eleven 50, Atlanta, Halloween 2005
Better than the last show in NYC, and the vibe was the best ever. For a guy who never dances, i got down, center stage, on the stage, right beside the duo and their drummer. Again, it really helped that i started with a vodka tonic in one hand and a shot of tequila in the other. Went from there.
Shit.
That's 5?
Awe man.
I had a few more.
Runner ups, based on performance and real energy for me would be
(1) Marilyn Manson
Jeremiah’s, Charlotte, NC, 1995
This was a VERY small club, with the band playing basicaly unadvertised (one newspaper ran their name one time, the rest listed some fake bands name as appearing that night) ... and the line was still out the parking lot on to the sidewalk to get in line. Luckily my two friends and i showed up early. This was the best of the 3 times i saw manson, to be sure.
(2) The Flaming Lips
Amos', Charlotte, 2007
What a fucking show.
Another club show, and absolute mindblowing.
First and hopefuly not last time seeing the incredible band.
(3) Social Distortion
Sonar, Baltimore, 2006
One of my "your getting old, it's time to go mosh" moments ... the crowd at this show was insane. I think the last pit i was in that rowdy was NIN from #2 above. I lost a shoe on the 3rd song, and managed to come out unscathed ... but with very very dirty toes!
If I was to smile and I held out my hand
If I opened it now would you not understand?
Good to see some Winnipeg props, wolfbear. That concert was incredible.
1. Pearl Jam Winnipeg 05 - Just a magical evening. Best crowd I've ever seen in Winnipeg and the band really appreciated it. Being a young Pearl Jam fan, I'm pretty sure row 15, dead center is the closest I will ever get for a show.
2. Roger Waters 07 - Never, ever imagined I'd get to see those Pink Floyd songs being played live.
3. Tragically Hip 04 - First rock show at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg and the Hip broke it in very well. I've never seen so much pot smoked at an indoor concert before or after.
4. Eric Clapton 07 - It was an honour to watch that man play guitar for a few hours.
5. Queens of the Stone Age 07 - They are one of favourite bands and I've seen them 5 times now, the one in Winnipeg in 2007 was the best of the bunch.
“Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you’ve got about a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies — ‘God damn it, you’ve got to be kind.’” - Kurt Vonnegut
Pearl Jam, each of my 5 was special.

2. Pearl Jam (Charlotte 2003)
3. Incubus (2002)
4. Cowboy Mouth (2003)

that's not including the festival show that I've been to....if you include those then #4 would be Charlotte's CityFest that featured Bob Dylan and #5 would be Columbia's Fall Out Concert that featured Our Lady Peace and Jimmy Eat World
1. The Mars Volta - New Years Eve in San Francisco
2. Lauren Lavin - free acoustic show in Vacaville, CA
