i just wanted to mention that bad religion were awesome last tuesday and they would have probably taken the no. 4 spot instead of lollapalooza but, i just had a great time at lollapalooza too and spent way too much money on beer and pizza that day... or just enough. :) pretty drunk the whole day. ;)

Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V
  • My disclaimer. I have seen a lot of shows. I mean a lot! It's not to brag but I have seen so many. One summer for example, out of 7 days, I would be at Great Woods aka Tweeter Center 6 nights!! I have also worked for a few years at the Orpheum in Boston in order to help with my concert addiction. my Top 5 is very hard to determine. My first concert was when I was in 8th grade and I haven't stopped yet. I my have slowed down over the years though. I really need a top 10 or 20 but here it is......

Pearl Jam- The Orpheum 4/12/94- This is what started it all for me.

Paul Simon- Worcester Centrum-Easter Sunday 1991. This was the tail part of the Graceland tour into the Rhythm of the Saints. Just a musical genius and an honor to have seen him perform.

NIN- Woodstock 1994-I barely had heard of them prior to this moment. I was just into another music scene at the time. But I have never looked back!!!!

The Police-7/29/07-Not that this is the best sounding show I have ever been to but just the sheer fact that I was able to see the POLICE, not Sting, was a dream come true.

Pearl Jam June 1995-Red Rocks, CO. It was my first real traveling experience for a show. Don't get me wrong. I had traveled for Phish and the Dead prior but no more than 4 hours driving. This was getting in a plane and going to another part of the country. That was an incredible experience.

    Honorable mentions.......

The Toadies- Paradise Rock Club Feb 1995. They opened for Bush who was completely unknown at the time. Great great show. Amazing enegry and power.

The Presidents of the United States of America- 1996 sometime, I think at the Avalon. Just a down right fun show.

Soul Coughing-1996 opening for Dave Matthews Band. Started the decending love for Dave and the increasing love for Soul Coughing. If I ever meet Dave, I will tell him thanks for introducing me to such a wonderful band.

Mr Bungle- at Avalon, not sure the year. I have actually seen them twice. Both times I have been blown away. Mike Patton is a freak and I love him for it!

Tool-The Tweeter Center perhaps 1997 or 1998. Not sure which year. Just amazing show. The twirling people in the back ground, the visuals, it was really just WOW!

The VFC warm up shows as well as the 2006 shows were also very very special to me.

Blind Melon 10/07/07- Their 1st performace in 12 years. Yes there were sound issues, the lighting sucked as far as taking pictures. But the emotion and the energy in that one night is still with me and I do not see it going anywhere any time soon. I have never been somewhere in which the band and the crowd shared in something so personal as that night.

Rolling Stones - Roseland Ballroom NYC Sept 2002
Stone Temple Pilots - Stabler Arena 4/29/97
Rolling Rock Town Fair 2.0 with STP, Live, Incubus, Deftones, Staind, Tantric and someone else (I forget)
Live - Stabler Arena I think it was 1997. Secret Sumadhi tour.
Pink Floyd - 1994 Giants Stadium - they did the whole DSOTM.

I purposely left Pearl Jam off the list. I have seen them too many times to just pick a show out.

Lots of others to choose from....
like Blind Melon at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park NJ in August 1994...kick ass show, but can't crack the top 5, or Woodstock '94, or Robert Plant at the paramount Theater in NYC in 1993, or Page and Plant at the Garden..or STP at the Garden.......5 is a hard number to cut them down to...

especially the last 3 shows..........wait, ESPECIALLY the last one, in Portland...........OMFG!!!!!!!!!! Beyond amazing....3 hours of rock your face off......
  • 1. Pink Floyd - Oakland Coliseum, Oakland California 1994
    2. Eagles - Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountainview California, 1994
    3. Bridge School Concerts, Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountain View, 2006
    4. Alice in Chains(yes velvelt revolver was there but AIC was the headliner for me) The Gorge, 2007
    5. Aerosmith, Tacoma Dome, Tacoma Washington, 2003 (I think it was 2003)

I have never actually been to an all PJ concert or I'm sure one of theirs would be in the list (there were great at Bridge and that's when I became a fan)

...but the list will probably change 'cause I have Ben Harper, Van Halen, Tool and a very cool sounding concert with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra and AIC coming up!

and can I have 6 favorites and add the Chris Cornell concert at the Paramount? Ok, it at definitely tied with the Aerosmith concert so they can share the 5 spot.

I saw them in 1987, they were good.

But what stands out for me to this day, 20 years later, was the opening act:

Bonnie Hayes and the Wild Combo.

The worst live act I have ever had the misfortune of experiencing. Just awful.
    This weekend we rock Portland

Don't want to be part of Frank's luncheon.
Lose weight. Be safe. Where's Mike McCready?
    My god he's been ate!
  • PJ, New Orleans '95
The Eagles, Biloxi MS Farewell I Tour
Clapton, Memphis (don't remember year, the tour with the orchestra)
Bob Fuckin' Seger, Little Rock Dec. '06
Kid Rock, Biloxi at Hard Rock Live in July....not really a fan of the dude's recorded music but he puts on one hell of a live rock n roll show

Honorable mention: The Stones (2 times, Memphis and Little Rock, I've got to imagine it woulda been better years ago), Petty, BB King (both in Jackson MS) Kenny Wayne Shepard at Rick's in Starkville, MS (chick I was with got hit in the head with a drum stick and then I got cussed out because I was more worried about where the damn stick was instead of her face....I really regret that) Pumpkins in Biloxi '97, Tina Turner in Birmingham (don't laugh, damn good show, had joe cocker opening)

....and there was this band called Spank the Monkey that used to play all the clubs around (I actually think it still exists in a much different incarnation) but that dude could sing any song by any band and you would think it was actually the original
All I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow
