how can anyone not like the pretender. i think its a great rock song. im listening to the rest of the album right now. thanks to the guy who posted it.
Lol i didnt even know MTV leaked it - did anyone notice how pissed the officials over at the FF forums are? I think a bunch of people got banned from their forum just for mentioning it or asking about it.
Just listened to the leak from the new album...it's a good album, not the best or the worst from the foos. They still rock on this cd but i'd say its the one with less power from them all, with most of the songs being kind of slow. I'd pretty much assure that the next single would be "Long Road to Ruin", typical catchy chorus and simple riffs...not great or bad..just fun. Anyway if this was the worst from the Foo Fighter's it would pretty much stand above many rock acts this days. Gonna try and listen to it a couple more times to see if i'm wrong with it.
I think the foo's are the most unimaginative, derivative, boring band around. Really boring and dull.

Wow. And what the hell makes Pearl Jam ten thousand times more original than the Foos? Yes, the Foos have never put out a "No Code", but that was 11 years ago, so you could make the argument that Pearj Jam is on an 11 year dry streak by your standards. (OK, Binaural was different but also boring as shit). The new Foos disc has some pretty beautiful music on it, and some things like Summer's End, The Ballad of the Beaconsville Miners, Statues, Stranger Things Have Happened are unlike anything they've tried before. I think the thing they lack is, well, Eddie Vedder. Eddie is a master of melody and lyric that Dave is not. I would have loved to hear what somelike like Eddie could do with the music on the newest Foos disc - not to mention the fact that the Foos best guitar work ever is on this album bar none.
So yeah, Dave is not Eddie, but that doesn't make the Foos the most derivative, boring, and dull band around. I mean Avocado and Yield are pretty mainstream rock, too, when you get right down to it.

I'm diggin the album, but don't listen to me, I think TCATS is their weakest CD.
Well.. maybe tied with In your Honor... but IYH would be better if they had trimmed the fat and made it a single cd.
Yeah, I agree that TCATS is not all it's cracked up to be. I am really loving this new album. I know it's waaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the last two, I'm trying to decide if I like it better than "There is Nothing Left to Lose," which has always had a special place in my heart (nothing will ever beat the debut for me - it's so quirky and original). Why aren't more people taking notice of the terrific guitar playing on this new one? It's the best guitar work of their carrer to date.

i agree completely with this. pearl jam is my favorite band by far but nothing on avocado is any more imaginitive or creative than the foo fighters stuff. plus, being more creative doesn't necessarily mean better music, in my opinion.

'Avocado' by the way, is my favourite PJ record.

I've had this on my iPod the past 2 weeks... really digging this record (my favorite since TC&TS). It's my 2nd favorite album of the year, behind "Icky Thump".
If you're headed to the grave,
you don't blame the hearse.
Just listening to it now for the first time through, and I have to say I really like it so far, I'm up to Summer's End. I was actually very impressed with Stranger Things Have Happened, normally I don't think Dave Grohl does the whole acoustic thing very well, but there's some very tasty guitar work in there. All in all I think it's way better than In Your Honour (apart from Best Of You - which is one of my very favourite Foos songs).
So I just finished listening to it, and even after one listen I think I can say it is probably their best since TCATS. For a start it is pretty varied, no two songs sound alike. In all honesty, I don't know what some people expected from a new Foo Fighters album. At the end of the day they're a pop-rock band, always have been and always will be. To say they always make the same old shit (as some people on here have said), is completely wrong. The new album has a couple of piano lead songs for a start, which they have never really done before, and the arrangements are much stronger on the acoustic songs. It seems like a lot of people had made their minds up before they even gave it a chance.

Mine arrived from play last night but I didn't get in from the Immagine in Cornice cinema screening 'til gone midnight so haven't had a chance to listen to it but you're selling it well
You going to either of the O2 dates? I'm standing on the 17th ... think we may have discussed this before Cornell but my mind is a sieve
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?

Yeah I think I'm going on the Saturday too, but we have seats way up the top somewhere! I think I remember a few people saying they were going, I'm feeling a meet up!

Wow, I never thought I'd hear someone call Yield mainstream rock!
I just bought it off itunes. It's too early for me to give a solid opinion on it, but after listening to all the 30 second samples of all the songs, I'm really looking forward to soaking it all in.
Rolling Stone only gave it 2 1/2 stars, WTF? Every other review I read about the album has been great. I've only listened to the first two songs so far, but they are both great.
