    ...But anyway, Cyndi Lauper!!! :D

DO so love Cyndi. Favorite song would have to be Money Changes Everything. But Time after Time pretty cool too. :)

Good Call! I can't believe I forgot about Cyndi. I've seen her live a couple of times and she always amazes. Her voice is unreal. Definitely one of the most talented, underrated artists still workin' hard.

Yeah, good list. Lucinda is great, tons of emotion in her voice. I'm looking forward to seeing Gillian at Coachella.

Other ones I'd add are Bjork, Cat Power, Petra Haden, Jenny Lewis, Patti Smith, and Rita Lee from Os Mutantes.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Patty Griffin?!?!?!?! She is amazing!! She's had her ups and downs but if your gonna check her out start with her first album "living with ghosts" it is haunting and theraputic very mellow.

-Fiona apple can do no wrong I totally have a girl crush on her.
    -Emily Haines
-Gwen before she completely sold out!! Ughhghgh what the fuck?!

Haha,,, I did way back there! I love Patti Griffin!

Patti Griffin, too. Not so much a trained voice, but a very passionate and expressive voice and a great songwriter.

Three other women woman I haven't seen here yet:

Marie Daulne or Zap Mama- Her and her accapella band are amazing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQnA9f7Pqn4 There is a series of 5 or 6 of these.

Juana Molina from Argentina. Such a sweet voice and quirky great music with everything from guitars to dogs barking in time with the music. Her music always makes me smile!

Sharon Den Adle from Within Temptation, she's awesome!

Oooh!!! I actually know who that is!!! :o  A bloody miracle!!! :D

So yes I agree she does have an exceptional voice. I'm just not so much of a fan of their music.

I read somewhere a little while ago that Amy Lee and the Evanescence crew site Within Temptation as their inspirations and role models.

I have to say, whilst I don't mind Within Temptation, I'd much rather hear Evanescence. :)

You've seen Cyndi LIVE???? :D **sigh** Soooo lucky!!! :) I miss so much!!! :o
There's never enough time, or money to see all the bands, singers and performers that I'd like to see. Cyndi is one hell of an artist. I just wish I'd seen her live. :)

And a voice soooo deceptively hard to emulate adequately, as I found out a few years back, when I had to attempt a passable rendition of Girls Just Wanna for a stage production. :o

I am completely addicted to Tasha Coates' voice. :)
I simply cannot play The Audreys - Between Last Night and Us enough! Nearly every day, sometimes several times a day. It's just a fantastic album. :)

Missy Higgins - The Sound Of White I know I've mentioned both these girls before, but they really are a joy to listen to and Missy's stunning debut gets airplay in my house at least 4 or 5 times a week, not to mention she's still enjoying high rotation on the radio.

Just wondering has anybody else heard her lastest single and what do you think of it? :)

  • Emylou Harris sure does seem to be very popular here and in general. I've actually got a few records of hers in my house that I haven't checked out yet. My best friends dad actually played bass for her at some point, and they're his records. Don't know much about her, but it seems as if she's country but her acceptance is far beyond that.

That's Mr Sandman right? I have heard her sing, she's got a lovely voice, just I haven't really been exposed to much of her music.

That's cool about your record collection history!! :)

Yeah I'll be playing it tomorrow if I get a chance. I've been playing a lot of great country on vinal. and its really good country and old country too. My friends dad actually accepted an award for Emylou Harris once. He actaully passed away recently and his kids just learned this and a lot of stuff after he died and they went through his things. He was a great bass guitarist.

Ah that's sad that they lost him, but great that they still have him with them, in such a fantastic way.

:D My uncle used to collect old grammaphones, and record players and the like before he died. We have a lot of fantastic old players and tunes, country, jazz, blues on vinyl and it's always great to sit down and play records. So much more engaging than cd somehow. I love having to wipe the record down with a lint cloth and make sure the needle is clear of dust and then adjust the sound with dials!! :D And then having to lift the stylus to skip a track. I reckon it's a great trip down memory lane. AND there's something about listening to country on vinyl, an ambiance, that you just don't get with cd. :) I really hope you have a great day listening.:)

Ah yes who could forget the Audreys, I listen to a fair bit of blues/folk type stuff and at the moment I have to add liz stringer, jen cloher and dallas frasca, lana martino-smith is amazing also.

Shame everyones list is so short I really have many more, anyway, does missy have a new single?

you're right, absolutely. When I was real young we played everything on vinyl. Country is relatively recent discovery for me despite being from the country. and it is excellent on vinyl. the ambiance thing I bet old jazz would be great and I bet Portishead would be killer. Sometime when I was still pretty young tapes just appeared everywhere, never messed with the 8 track player. I would always play the records till cds came out, though.

Just keep em coming Blyss!! :)
I like to check in on everything everybody has had to say before I head off to the record store!! :)

Yeah, Missy does have a new single. I'm thinking it's ok, but it's sounding a bit over produced to me at this stage, but I've only heard it a few times.
I don't know it just seems to lack some of the raw and true sound that the first album had. BUT I'm sure it'll grow on me!! :)
