I'm really loving Spitting Venom right now. I like the trumpet part. I am definitely buying this one when it comes out.If You Give, You Begin To Live

I have been listening to this CD nonstop for weeks and Spitting Venon is my favorite as well. The less you know, the more you believe.0 -
I've been walking around campus to this album for the last 3 weeks - it is AMAZING.
Unless Pearl Jam has a surprise release late in the year, this will be hard pressed to be topped in 07Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?0 -
yup they've finally come together with all their influences and made a really great record... the marr influence is nice but James Mercer (shins) being on those 3 tracks really highlight the album.. my favourite since Moon & A!
oh yeah and Parting of the Sensory is my favourite song of theirs since Doin' the Cockroach..09/04/05 - Calgary, AB

I love it. Absolutely love it. I got hooked on "good news.." originally but have gone back through their catalogue, and thought it had nothing on "m and a" and that they were possibly going downhill.
I feel this record really succeeds at what they were trying out in the last album. The flow is amazing, the new guitar guy sounds like he's always been there... I'm thinking this will be a great album for the summer.
As for the dark mood, I'd say it's dark, brooding and going to hell moodwise, but they're having fun while on the way.
Favorite song right now "People like places like people" hidden there at the end of the album. I knew I'd like that one given the title.
This is a possible best of 2007 release.
"While we are on the subject, can we change the subject please"
Classic MM-ism right there. And I expect to find lots more while I get the actual record and lyrics.
Peace

The Moon & Antarctica remains their best, but the new album is really good.Once in a while you can get shown the light, in the strangest of places if you look at it right.0

this album is fucking freaky good"be a philosopher but, amid all your philosophy, be first a man" - david hume
Mitch Hedberg- RIP 1968-2005. your jokes have laughed me through a lot. I thank you.0 -

Great album! Love the video for Dashboard too, lol0

I've only heard Dashboard so far, but that song is pretty great. I thought it was David Byrne when it came on.bharQ wrote:yup they've finally come together with all their influences and made a really great record... the marr influence is nice but James Mercer (shins) being on those 3 tracks really highlight the album.. my favourite since Moon & A!"What happens when so many people agree on something? "Someday you will die and somehow somethings going to steal your carbon"
Parting of the Sensory is my favorite track on their hands down. I listen to it non-stop. It is wicked good... The only song I think is "meh" is "Fire it Up", that song is tolerable however.
Missed the boat is also one of my favorite on there, and back to back with Parting of the Sensory is kickass.
At about 3:19 into the song (Missed the Boat) is just amazing to me, and I get chills everytime I hear it.Drunk by noon but that's ok

I have been to, and have the following posters framed:

Aren't these guys an EMO band?
Are they really that good?
Now I have not listened to or heard ANY of there music so I can not judge. But after reading some of these posts you have me intrigued.
A friend of mine listens to them and has tried to get me to listened to them. I was like "Nah dude that music is for 13 year olds.""I don't believe in PJ fans but I believe there is something, not too sure what." - Thoughts_Arrive0 -

Well I guess it was better than asking "Are these guys a Homo band?"
Hhahahahaaha.
So they are "that type" of music? So it must stink. Hhahahaha.
Can you compare it to something? Just so I can have an idea.

Thank you!
they are really their own sound especially on the new album.... i guess you could compare their earlier sound and their roots to Built To Spill, Pavement and Kaiser Cheifs.... if you dont know who those bands are.... they are emocore bands from the 90s... before emocore was invented... they were the pioneers of emocore!!!!!09/04/05 - Calgary, AB

i can't get past the lead singer's voice in both modest mouse and bright eyes, therefore I can't fully stomach their music, which is too bad, because with different singers in both, the music would sound a lot better. the modest mouse singer on dashboard sounds like he has been strangled.2003 Mansfield III

Listen to "Missed the Boat" and "We've Got Everything".... I bet you'll like those.
I used to totally agree the first time I heard Lonesome Crowded West... It was the lyrics that got me first then I eventually got used to the voice now I guess I'm just really used to it 3 albums later09/04/05 - Calgary, AB
