1. September, 2005-- Pearl Jam and The Rolling Stones @ PNC Park in Pittsburgh. My 2 favorite bands at one of the great new ball parks in America with some of the best weather you could ever ask for. Cars in the parking lots were blaring lots of both bands beforehand. There were tons of boats in the Allegheny River next to the ball park just camped out to hear the show. Though Pearl Jam really stuck to the hits, they played as intense as I've ever seen them. And I had NEVER seen a place 100% full for an opening act before that night (especially for the Stones, whose openers are not usually treated well by the fans). The place was hoppin' for Pearl Jam and it continued straight through the Rolling Stones set. Plus seeing Eddie do "Wild Horses" with the Stones was cool. It was obvious there was a great deal of mutual admiration on the stage. What a night.
2. October, 2005 ---U2 @ Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh. I've seen U2 three times, but I don't think they'll ever top the Vertigo tour. "City of Blinding Lights" may be the greatest show opener ever. We paid a lot for good seats, but it was worth it
3. October, 2001--Janes Addiction and Live @ Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh. Live opened the show with a mostly-acoustic set, starting off with an incredible version of "Lightning Crashes." Another song I clearly remember was "Overcome," which had become a surprise hit after 9/11. Then, all I can say about Jane's Addiction is, if you never got to see them live, you really missed something. Those guys put on one fucking good show.
4. September, 2004-- Pearl Jam @ TD Banknorth Garden in Boston. The second VFC-warmup sticks out in my mind for many reasons, but the two that I'll point out are
#1--ALONE (nuff said there) and #2 --I clearly remember "Rockin' In The Free World"---with the house lights up and the entire arena going crazy.
5 July, 2000--- Dave Matthews Band @ Ralph Wilson Stadium just outside of Buffalo. It was such a treat hearing "Granny" and "One Sweet World" live for the first time. Plus, it was the first time I ever heard "JTR" and "Bartender,"--which were unreleased at the time and both of which became favorites instantly.
others I'll mention....
*Rolling Stones 2002---"If You Can't Rock Me" and "Stray Cat Blues" ---wow
*Dave Matthews Band 2003---"Cry Freedom" and "Minarets"
*Rolling Stones 1997---"Sister Morphine," 'Let's Spend the Night Together," and "Little Queenie"
*Aerosmith 2001---Lightning hits the stage as they are playing "Train Kept A Rollin" with special guest Slash during the encoreI love my female wife...

Seeing Pearl Jam in concert for the first time (19.9.05) was a magical night for me. If it wasn't for that concert, I'd probably still be listening to rap non-stop.
I know many people on this BBS complained about the setlist, but I had the time of my life in Toronto!
The best non-PJ concert I've been to had to be Nas in Central Park. Anyone who follows hip-hop knows that was a historic night. I was pretty close to the stage and when Nas called out 50 Cent and the "Dipset dickheads," everyone around me went absolutely nuts!
Honorable mention goes to Outkast, Rob Zombie, Alice in Chains, Robin Trower, and GWAR.0 -
^^^ forgot about Black Label Society. They put on a kick-ass show last week.0

My top 5 Pearl Jam shows I've attended-
Maui, Randall's Island, MSG, Maine, tie betw SF night 2 opening for the Stones (1st time hearing Evolution..) and last night of tour @ Coral Sky (1st time got backstage)

Of Non PJ shows:
Tibetan Freedom in NY were amazing....seeing Michael Stipe w/ Ed and Mike, seeing Ed and Mike, and loved the mix of incredible bands and hip hop artists..
Radiohead in Liberty State Park, incredible shows..right before 911..having the band play in front of me, with skyline on the left and statue of liberty visible betw ground and the side screen....Radiohead @ Msg Theatre this year
got in night 1, shut out night 2, but met cool fans and we all hung out @ local bar and played radiohead on juke box..
Eddie w/ C Avg at ATP LA
Chris Cornell solo at Town Hall (hopefully to be reprised at Irving Plaza..Please, Please pm if you have an extra..)
RHCP @ 9:30 club in DC Tibet Fest Weekend

Black Crowes, February, 1993... Southern Harmony and Musical Companion tour... 2500 people... unreal...
I saw them again in 2005 and thought they still sounded good, but the 1993 show was amazing.Mesa 11/7/93 - Charlotte 10/4/96 - DC 6/14/98 - Raleigh 8/31/98 - Knoxville 9/6/98 - Columbia MD 9/18/98 - DC 9/19/98 - Columbia MD 9/4/00 - Phoenix 10/21/00 - Raleigh 4/15/03 - Phoenix 6/7/03 - Philadelphia 5/27&28/06 - DC 5/30/06 - Las Vegas 7/6/06 - San Diego 7/7/06 - LA 7/9&10/06 - Gorge 7/22&23/06 - Chicago 8/5/07 - PJ20 9/3&4/11 - Jacksonville 11/24/12 (EV) - Orlando 11/27/12 (EV) - Brooklyn 10/18&19/13 - Charlotte 10/30/13 - Memphis 10/14/14 - Ft Lauderdale 4/8/16 - Miami 4/9/16 - Jacksonville 4/13/16 - Hampton 4/18/16 - Chicago 8/20&22/160 -
My top five:
Pearl Jam - Benaroya: 'nuff said
Ben Harper & the Innocent Criminals - Royal Oaks, MI 2005: Amazing band, small venue, they played for over 3 hours, and the energy was some of the most intense I've ever experienced. I expected him to be good, but I sure as hell wasn't expecting what I got. Don't ever pass up a chance to see these guys!
Led Zeppelin - Cleveland 1977: If you've heard the "Destroyer" bootleg, then you know what I'm talkin' about! If you haven't, you're just gonna have to trust me that this was one of the best shows from their later career. Legendary stuff, I still have a hard time believing I was actually there.
The Rolling Stones - Cleveland 1975: My first concert, and even though I went to concerts non-stop after this, it took two years before I saw one as good, and that was only because Zeppelin toured.
Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Cleveland 1982 (I think): Coulda been 81 or 83 ... what can I say, I was high. This was at an amphitheater, I was on the lawn, and it stormed non-stop for the entire show. We were soaked and filthy and Uncle Neil kicked it up a notch for us, particularly on "Hurricane," given the weather"Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity." ~ MLK, 19630 -

Not going to count Pearl Jam but i would say Audioslave in Manchester, it surpassed my expectations by far and i think this was regarded best gig of the tour.Dublin 2006
Katowice 2007
London 20070 -
John Martyn on a good night is the guv'nor. I saw a great McCoy Tyner gig, back in 1989, too.0
-
Page and Plant in Virginia Beach on the Walking into Clarksdale tour (97?)
RHCP - Charlottesville January 07
PJ - Virginia Beach (their first show after Roskilde)
Neil Young with Crazy Horse - Virginia Beach around 95 or 96 I think
Buddy Guy - Virginia Beach circa 97
I'd say those 5 are the most memeorable. I have also seen great shows from the Allman Bros, Black Crowes, STP, Rage Against The Machine, the Stones, Funkadelic, BB King, and many others.0 -

I've heard the Destroyer bootleg and you're one lucky motherfucker. The best show I've been to is GnR Tacoma 2002 and GNR Hammerstein Night 1 2006. After that it would be Page and Plant 98 and The Who Gorge 2000.0
