I'm going to go out on a limb here, but I think "Pop" is an amazing record. I wish they still had growth like this in them.
  • I love U2. I think thats what's so great about them is that they have a good mix of musical style over their catalogue. I like all of their albums, but I know everyone does not.

Kind of like another band I love....

What happened was that they scheduled the Pop tour before the Pop album was even finished. So when time came to hit the road and the stage, they had to run with what they had; and what they had was an album of unfinished songs. Unfinished to their usual standards, that is, and I think that it shows.

Pop is, without an iota of a doubt, my least favorite U2 album, gets practically no play time from me and if not for Clayton's hella-good basslines I'd probably throw it away. A few good songs, which there are, just don't save it. The concept was great, out of the box and a complete 180 for them that bordered on brilliant, and it would've been amazing if they hadn't run out of time.

Some days I hate that album because of what could've been.

U2 is good but I do not understand how they are the biggest band in the world. I just dont think their music (particularly their newest work) is any better than just good.

  • I thought i read that Bono had throat surgery (throat cancer, tumor?? I cant remember). I am pretty sure in his interview he talked about having a tough time with the vocals because of the procedure and the recording process taking a long time...

Ill see if i can find the article.

Well when you can carry an audience of 500,000 with something none of them will forget you can be given that title.

Loving this new U2 album Songs of Surrender. Picked up the 40 song box set on vinyl on Friday and have been listening all weekend. These songs are a part of my dna at this point so hearing these stripped down different new versions is really exciting. There's a couple of songs that don't work as well but the vast majority are gorgeous. In a way Pearl Jam did this already with Benaroya which of course was amazing as well.

For the first time in my U2 listening history I struggled to like this new collection. It just made me want to get out their entire catalog and listen. Would have preferred a Pop reissue honestly, but maybe it will grow on me.

Just put Pop on 10 minutes ago. That is a hugely underrated album.

I saw them three times on that tour. Had front row for one of them. Also got super lucky as they'd stayed at a hotel I worked at and got to meet Bono, Edge and Larry. Even played Bono's guitar. Was quite the weekend.

Insane!! I scored tickets near the catwalk and they came out and played a song acoustically. I think it was Desire? Some core memories there!

Popmart '97 was also my first show (the one in vancouver).  I feel this concert was historical in a few ways. The first was that I hadn't gotten good at getting concern tickets yet, and we hadn't planned it out, so our seats were on the upper level towards the back.  It was the catalyst for me to figure out how to get good at ticket buying, and as a result, I had decades of amazing seats at concerts.

The 2nd was, the show was so damn good, that I was even impressed way up on the upper deck of the stadium (BC Place).   It's not easy to feel the energy on the upper deck of a stadium.  Good on them :)

We were at the Vancouver show as well and it was incredible.    Bono had a completely shaved head at that one. We actually met him outside the Pan Pacific hotel the night before. His voice was shot and he was going to see a throat specialist. Luckily the concert wasn’t cancelled. I was worried.

can only pick your sections if you're going through the U2 fan club route (just like the 10c).  TM verified is different than the fan club presale.  Any help?
