KOL is a top 3 band for me right now...Actually smack dam right in the middle between PJ and QOTSA...

The energy of there songs are perfect..I actually think they have gotton better with each album!!! Hope the trend continues....

A great tune not on any of their albums is Wicker Chair...Look it up...
i agree with you....currently kol is getting more play on my jukebox than pj. the best thing about this band for me is, how the lyrics seem to have no pattern when you read them but the singer creates a pattern and it sounds good......
live and let live...unless it violates the pearligious doctrine.

I'll be in a meeting when they go on sale and have a feeling this will be a server crash type sale ... esp if it's on seetickets :o

It's official, I'm gonna see KOL at All Points West!! So excited.

That's fucking great - there's an awesome groove to that song.

Here's some blurb from rollingstone about the new record, it sounds like it's gonna be good:

The Smoking Section told you about the Kings of Leon’s boozy recording sessions for their new album, and today Rock Daily got an early listen to the Followill brothers’ September 23rd LP Only By the Night. The first indication this record is ready to kick some ass? It’s got a track called “Sex on Fire” that features kinky lyrics like “I know they’re watching” over twangy bent-note guitars and a thrumming bass groove. That’s just one of the 12 hotwired but extremely loose tracks that range from brawny Zep-style rockers (”Crawl”) to spooked-out blues ballads like “Cold Desert,” on which frontman Caleb howls “Jesus don’t love me/ No one ever carried my load.” The tentatively titled “Notion to Say” sounds like pure Nineties alt-rock with liquidy guitars reminiscent of Kurt Cobain’s riff from “Come as You Are” and a crystal-clear bassline that’s pure Pixies. Drummer Nathan goes to town on “Seventeen,” a song that dates back to their Aha Shake Heartbreak days and boasts a bunch of massive fills, but one of the better cuts has to be “Use Somebody,” a soaring power ballad that strangely enough sounds like a badass version of Journey’s “Faithfully.”

I very much doubt I will be able to ignore the inevitable leak! It comes out the same day as Cornell's new record, I wonder which one will spend the most time on my stereo?! :)

Missing Kings Of Leon at Newcastle was probably the worst mistake of my life.

Why are this band more popular in Europe than in the USA (not that I'm complaining!)? Because Of The Times reached number 1 in the UK I think. Pretty remarkable.

    Awesome :)
Thank you. KoL are one of my favourite bands at the moment and I can't wait for September... Here's hoping for a few UK dates later on in the year.

I really need to get myself some Kings Of Leon albums, they are a great great band, and I've always somehow missed them in terms of taking proper notice, probably because when they came out they got lumped in with a lot of mediocre indie and I dismissed them, but I can see now they are truly something else.....

Anyone care to recommend which I album I should get first....???

My favourite is Aha Shake Heartbreak although I'm sure plenty of people will say Because Of The Times is theirs. Really I'd say you can't go wrong with either one.

Their latest Because of the Times is the most accessible album of theirs. I reckon you should work your way backwards. Their first one is very southern rock, and sometimes you really have to work hard to like it.

buy Because of the Times...you won't be disappointed! :D

Yes, Because of the Times has Charmer on it. It's a great album. My personal favorites on it are Fans, Ragoo, True Love Way, and The Runner. My favorite album, however, is Aha Shake Heartbreak. It just has a bunch of kickass southern rock-punk tunes! One of my favorites off that album is Day Old Blues, but they almost never play it live, which sucks! The Kings are awesome!

Yeah all three are great, but I think Because Of The Times just inches it, they seem to be getting better and better as they go along.
  • urbanhippieurbanhippie Posts: 3,007
Day Old Blues, Milk, Bucket, Taper Jean Girl, Four Kicks, Velvet Snow..... Aha Shake Heartbreak is a kick ass album from start to finish.

It's also my 12yr old daughters favorite album... obviously she inherited my good taste ;)

Anyone in the UK turn on BBC3 if you have it, they're showing KOL from T in the park in a while (they've already played some songs). Also REM will be on later tonight.
