The Verve are so much more than Bittersweet Symphony, I hate that song also btw, but as far as british bands of the 90's go, I would have The Verve probably second only to Radiohead, The Verve's albums and music has a lot of depth to it, it's a shame and a testament of good music going unoticed by the masses that it took them until '97 before making it big.
The first two albums A Storm In Heaven and A Northern Soul are awesome, both blow Urban Hymns out of the water.:)
He took a boring orchestra version of a Stones song and made it a masterpeice........I do not see a problem

ANYONE who denies you're right about The Verve knows only shit about British music!!! The Verve is DEFINITELY one of the best bands ever!
And btw I still love Bitter sweet Symphony which was not a rip if you ask me...'cos I personally HAVE HEARD THAT orchestra version of The Last Time and you simply shouldn't compare that dull song to The Verve hit!

Even though Hendrix was born in Seattle, The Jimi Hendrix Experience was founded in London. It completely changed the British music scene forever, from its formation in October 1966. It has to be considered THE pivotal British rock band.

Well, Cream were formed a few months earlier, but all three musicians were well known beforehand. Their impact wasn't as immediate or as striking/shocking. They also didn't have the phenomenal press machine behind them that the Experience had. The music aside, they had a striking image and visual effect on the very conservative Britain of the time. Geno Washington and the Ram Jam Band were an interracial band of the time, but they were very much part of the soul scene. The Experience took their image and sound, and turned it up to eleven. Top of the Pops, or post-imperial British society, had never seen anything like it!

    anyway...

surely the hollies deserve to be on the list in place of the verve.

The only good songs I have heard from them are their singles.
