Sick of hearing about Led Zeppelin

  • if it were not for Led Zeppelin, Rock n' Roll would not be what it is today. Anytime a band like that gets back together, it's a monumental occasion.

  • led zeppelin has some good songs but im just not into them. i might see them if tickets are less $50. honestly i wont pay more for zeppelin than i would for pj, nin, or any other band i really like. zeppelin is just ok in my book.

then again i was never a huge zeppelin fan, id rather listen to the who or the velvet underground any day.

now a replacements reunion that id pay to see. or the dead kennedys with jello.

  • I like them okay and all but I am sick of hearing about them and all the other hype reunion shows have gotten. Not even that many people got to see their show and its still not even confirmed whether they will put out a new record or even do more shows. So whats the point of making thread and thread talking about a band well past their prime and posting poor quality youtube videos?

I haven't read anything past this initial post, and I'm just saying I agree. I really think they should've just stayed as "dead" status for the band... it really annoys me that these bands are trying to make a comeback... they're like 60 years old! Give it the rest that it was taking. Sheesh.

It's like you already said farewell forever, and then all of a sudden you come back... you just can't do that.

I remember the crazy talks about Pink Floyd reuniting after Live 8 and two Roger Water's shows later I am still waiting for it. The stick moved from Roger's ass to Dave's.

I wouldn't be surprised if Led Zeppelin never plays another gig again, but I wouldn't be surprised if they announced a full fledged tour. They got offered 1 billion dollars to go on tour, thats a shit load of money.

I've been watching videos on the youtube and Plant's voice sounds great, the guitar work is muddled though so its hard to tell how Page is playing, and the bass isn't much easier to hear.

I think its funny that out of all of them JPJ looks the youngest and healthiest. Robert Plant has got the Eddie Vedder going on now with the long hair and beard, at least he isn't wearing those god awful really, really, tight pants anymore. Jimmy Page didn't age well, its really weird to see him with white hair.

I cannot wait for the DVD of this show and hopefully a North American tour.

Guns N Roses is the suck in comparison to Led Zeppelin, their sound is not timeless or anything. They really did only have 1 great album and its not as great as any Zeppelin album, hell its probably not as good as In Through the Out Door or Presence. Achilles Last Stand is a better song than Appetite for Destruction's track list put together. I think Pearl Jam has a closer sound, at least on Ten and Vs. to Led Zeppelin than GnR, that could be because Mike is obviously influenced by Mr. Page.

Nirvana is definitely the most significant band since LZ in terms of opening up new paths in rock n roll, although I would say that Nirvana has had more of impact which could be due to Kurts untimely death (it wasn't suicide). I'm pretty positive without Led Zeppelin, you don't have Nirvana, but without Nirvana you don't hear about Pearl Jam, AiC, Soundgarden et al and all subsequent bands influenced by them which may have not been such a bad thing. No Creed or Godsmack, woohoo! Yeah yeah Ten sold more than Nevermind, but how long did it take for Ten to actually start selling? I am pretty sure it was after Nevermind came out and everyone jumped on the Seattle bandwagon. Check out the sig, even Eddie acknowledged the fact that without Mr Cobain he wouldn't have had such a successful career.

Comparing the 8 Studio albums :

    Ten > Led Zeppelin
    VS = Led Zeppelin II
    Vitalogy > Led Zeppelin III
No Code < Led Zeppelin IV
Yield > Houses of the Holy
    Binaural < Physical Graffiti
    Riot Act > Presence
Pearl Jam > In Through the Out Door

5 : 2 to PJ with one tie.

I agree completely. Who cares that there fans want a reunion and the band itself really wanted to play one more show. It's not about the band or the fans its about us and they should never play again.

Crap man, that's like me saying your mom gets too much hype. That would be so incredulous... because she's the reason you exist.

Think about it dude, those beautiful riffs you listen to from your favorites didn't just happen in the last few years.

Why does he have to like Led Zeppelin more than Pearl Jam? Just because they are older? Most of my favorite bands are from my time because I like the sound more and can relate to them more. I dont understand why so many of you think that Pearl Jams music doesnt even compare to Led Zeppelins.

I do like Zeppelin, even have most of their records in vinyl. I appreciate them, just dont see the point in going nuts over poor quality youtube videos and peoples description of a concert.

Did I say that anyone has to like Led Zeppelin more than Pearl Jam?? Please, I'm not that arrogant! Arent we on a Pearl Jam message board here? I love Pearl Jam almost as much as Zep and have dozens of PJ bootlegs. The great thing about music is that no-one has the exact same musical taste - I think you should probably try respecting people's opinions. This is the Other Music section, where people are free to discuss whatever bands they like - the LZ reunion is the biggest thing to happen in the last 10 years, so naturally people are going to want to discuss it. If you dont want to discuss it, then dont! Go and read other threads!

thats just stupid. without all those blues players zeppelin ripped off there would be no zeppelin, if there was no elvis there would be no zeppelin. im not gonna run out and buy every elvis cd and robert johnson cd just because with out them there would be no led zeppelin.

and seriously there is the velvet underground and hendrix, neil young, etc i think they did some things for the music i listen too. in fact id go as far as to say lou reed has a bigger impact on what i listen to then zeppelin.

    what about the beatles???

this arguement is just stupid, zeppelin arent the gods of rock. with or without them rock music would have moved forward.

So true, its not like Pearl Jam only have one influence. Hell, Led Zeppelin arent even their biggest influence.

  • Bottom line for me is Led Zeppelin is the greatest band (for me) and I've had an orgasm which has now lasted since about 3:00PM Pacific Standard Time, Dec 10th, 2007. I think I've seen warnings on TV ads about products like Viagra that being in this state for longer than 4 hours could be hazardous to one's health. So I hope I'll be alright.

Zeppelin played a major (huge) role (not exclusive role) in shaping the Rock Genre for which Pearl Jam is in. Look at Jeff's guote in the latest Rolling Stone. To paraphrase, he says thay every time they go on stage, they want to perform like Zeppelin on stage in 1973. Without Zeppelin, there would still be rock and roll. I think it would be different, but I'm not sure how and to what extent.
Up here so high I start to shake, Up here so high the sky I scrape, I've no fear but for falling down, So look out below I am falling now, Falling down,...not staying down, Could’ve held me up, rather tear me down, Drown in the river
  • Yeah, I'd say Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen are Pearl Jam's biggest influences... but that's just me.

To be honest, I think Led Zeppelin is just way overrated. I mean, sure, yeah, they're good and all... but ionno... they're good in my book, just not even close to the best.
If I could, think I would give in.
  • It amazes me how overrated this rock band still is to this day. Yeah, I thought they were kind of cool when I was a teenager, but come on now. It doesn't warrant all this fuss.
I thought it was funny that I heard a Zep/ Virizon commericial while driving the other day. Those old timers must really need the money!

You have got to be kidding

    Why?

I'm over 30 years old I'm not some young punk who thinks he's cool because he's just discovered the Zep/Floyd/Bowie etc.

I've owned all 8 Zep studio album albums since the early 90's. I've brought every PJ album on the first day of release since VS. I think i'm in a decent position to make a fair comparison and make my own mind up ;)

To anyone saying Zeppelin is overrated:
Listen to How The West Was Won. Pay special attention to Jimmy Page's guitar work during Heartbreaker and then come back and say they are overrated.
My husband was playing this album in the car the other day. I can't get it out of my head.
Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away
  • Led Zeppelin can't be overratted. They're the only band that can warrant the most outrageous titles: GODS OF ROCK, ect. The simple truth is they are the best at that certain thing they did. The best collection of talent ever. I could probably write a f-ing book. Most rock fans probably would agree, not because its status quo, but because THE MUSIC IS THE BEST to the rock fans.
