This style of music isn't catered towards a rock fans taste. I wish people would stop acting like it is... lol. Of course we're going to not like it, but I bet a lot of other people who dig that style will enjoy it a lot.Rhinocerous Surprise wrote:It's worse.

That's an absolute cop-out. I like all sorts of music, I don't like Scream because it's bland and generic - as you correctly said, some people may like that, but my not liking it has nothing to do with it not being rock.0 -
I can't tell...I never listen to r&b at all but I give most music a try before I can give comments.
However, I couldn't even listen to the tracks of Scream. The voices which are generated from a computer grate, the attitude isn't there it's more like a wet rag than 'in your face', the lyrics seem to be written by a bunch of kindergarten children and the beats came from recycled Timberlake outtakes.
That's what I think of it.
Well what you expect of a product Verizon funded? Music for the masses. Quantity not quality.
I'm livid they chose Chris Cornell for the project instead of an established r&b artist. I'm flogging a dead horse here because everyone lets off their vitriol and I'm not the only one voicing my dissatisfaction.
I wonder if that caused a delay in releasing the album?Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun - W.H. Auden0 -

Actually alot of Timbaland's fanbase doesn't like it either. They think alot of it is weak.0 -

Just listening to his new shit for the first time now...its not that bad, not my style, but i applaud him, it takes balls to go in this direction....and that fucker still has the best voice in rock and roll, if you consider this rock and roll.0

Has he not heard Timberlake or One Republic?!
Yes it's new and unique for Cornell, but not in terms of mainstream music.
That may be so, but it doesn't mean its GOOD or BETTER than anything he's been doing in the past. IMO its a step BACK for him."Rock and roll is something that can't be quantified, sometimes it's not even something you hear, but FEEL!" - Bob Lefsetz0 -

Thanks for those. I snorted with laughter when he spoke about sharing the podium at the grammys with Timbaland.
He might want to release the album first.0 -
I really enjoyed the part where he compared Timbaland to Prince. Its almost as ridiculous as Scream being compared to Pink Floyd.n2integrity wrote:Thanks for those. I snorted with laughter when he spoke about sharing the podium at the grammys with Timbaland.

Yeah, like most people here I'm a bit down on Cornell and decided to check out Tom Morello's show instead of the Cornell show across town. I saw Cornell last time around and it was epic. His voice was great and exceeded my expectations. This time around his tickets were quite expensive and I thought I'd go for a smaller Morello show at a cool venue.
Morello was way better than I expected. Sure he is not overly gifted lyrically and his political rants can get tiresome. It's not that I disagree with him necessarily but in a forum of one sided opinion it becomes a bit propagandaish ala Fox News. Musically he was awesome. the show ended past 1 am and he played quite a long set which was more electric than I expected.
Anyway, I digress... Cornell's set seems like he's going back to his glory days. Looks like a killer set and I wish I coulda seen both.

I'd definitely go and see a Cornell solo show again if he comes to the UK. His setlists are unbelievable these days.0

I'm seeing him tomorrow night, I still can't decide how to react when he plays the new stuff. It really is baaaaad. I almost feel like I shouldn't be paying to see him. Tix were $50 for the same venue all the aging glam-rockers play for $20. How the mighty have fallen.
I was thinking boo's were in order, but I don't want to be an ass....thumbs down? I dunno....maybe I'll just go to the can and cry.
The setlist above looks pretty damn good anyway.0 -
Have a good time tomorrow night. By all accounts the solo shows are well worth it and you only have to make it through at most 4 scream clunkers. The rest seems like pure gold.
Let us know what you think after the show. The reviews have been pretty thin this tour, but I think that has more to do with the atmosphere at the cc.com board than Chris's performance.0 -
If only his new music didn't suck. His setlists look insanely good, and I hear the live performances are the best he's done in a decade. Why can't he have good live shows and good studio albums? Last year he sorta had that, but the setlists are so much better and varied these days, minus the Scream crap. What a shame.0
