  • Crack The Sky is a very underrated band that has been around since the mid 70's and are still cranking out great music. Hailing from OH,and having gone thru many lineup changes, the latest lineup has been together now for the most part of 10 years and they have a HUGE following in the Baltimore area and still sell out shows everyplace they play. Check out the website at http://www.crackthesky.com They have a FREE BOOTS section where you can sample some tunes. I reccomend ICE, HOLD ON/SURF CITY,SHE'S A DANCER,NUCLEAR APATHY....oh hell, LISTEN TO EM ALL!!!!

  • A few years ago, I was going through some best of the nineties lists, and started checking out some bands that I didn't hear about. The two that blew me away when I heard them were Walt Mink, and the Magnetic Fields. The other band from the nineties that seems to get little mention was Sixteen Horsepower.

Gov't Mule is another one, although I think they're fairly well known. They're absolutely amazing, Warren Haynes Is God, and is one of the most talented guitarists of the past few decades.
What would be a good first Government Mule album for the beginner?

  • dismemberment plan, alkaline trio, brian jonestown massacrs, guided by voices, Yo la tengo, art of fighting, teenage fanclub, reindeer section/snow patrol, idlewild, godspaaed ! you black emperor, american analog set, nine black alps, the frames

    http://www.brianjonestownmassacre.com/

go to this website right now and download their music. they have all their albums available as OGG files (easily converted to mp3s). this band has been around for about 10 years yet have remained relatively unknown until just recently, when an independent documentary premiered at sundance. the film was called Dig! and it compared the careers of two bands: the dandy warhols and the brian jonestown massacre.

thanks to this film, the brian jonestown massacre are starting to reach a wider audience (for better or worse). i had the opportunity to see them at lollapalooza (where i also got the chance to see arcade fire and drive by truckers). they rocked. the best part about them is that you can download their albums right from the website to see if you like them or not.

i recommend starting with take it from the man! or give it back.
"no, i can't give you full credit, but i'm not gonna flunk you either. you're all getting incompletes."

faith no more are hailed as greats but their album sales never reflected that. It seemed that people were just name checking them because they read they were great.
