To this day, I still play "Epic" by Faith no more; that song is the shit. Can't remember what the other radio song was though, Fallen to pieces?? maybe?

I wonder if they still count as the Great Unknown Band... they've had my love since I first heard them a couple of days ago... their CD won't get out of my player for many days to come :)

    *THREE FISH
I absolutely adore this little side project of Jeff!! Deserves at least 50 times as much attention than it actually receives... I'm often sad to learn many visitors to this place never heard of them... Robbie Robb is just magnificent. Together with Jeff they constitute PURE MAGIC.

    *BRAD
Are these guys as unknown as I think? Another Love Of Mine that, together with Three Fish, remains in the shadow of the Seattle Giant (=PJ).

This board has turned me on to some kick ass bands. Just wanted to ask some fellow jammers (w/ excentric tastes) WHAT ARE THE BEST BANDS I HAVEN'T HEARD???

Lately I've been really in bands like:
    Drive by Truckers
    Kings of Leon
    Gov't Mule

Thanks, all responses are appriciated :D
Saw the Truckers last night in Tuscaloosa, Alabama....what a kick-ass 2 1/2 hours of Rock and Roll-Dirty South Style. They were gooder than snuff.

    The Tragically Hip.

These guys are arguably the greatest Canadian rock band of all time, and they've got one of the best live shows you'll ever see. They've sold millions of records and they've routinely sold out stadiums and arenas in Canada for over 15 years, but in the U.S. and the rest of the world they're still relatively unknown. Whenever they tour the States, Canadian fans (myself included) are known to follow the band from show to show Grateful Dead style just so they can see them up close and personal in small clubs and theatres. When their first full-length album came out in 1989 they were classified as hard-rock, but then when the grunge thing happened, the media started calling them "alternative" and they kind of rode the wave along with Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, etc... Since then they've released 10 kick-ass albums, won countless awards, and started up their own travelling rock festival (which will apparently be revived next summer). Earlier this year they were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, officially putting them in the same company as Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, The Guess Who, Gordon Lightfoot, and Rush. Next week they're opening for the Rolling Stones in Moncton. Basically they're the biggest undiscovered band on the planet.

I definitely have to dig deeper into them, as I've had this incredible thing for Canadian bands lately... Everything Canadian that I stumble upon inevitably turns out to be brilliant... I'm currently bathing in my admiration for Arcade Fire... Stars & their "Set Yourself on Fire" is great as well.. Thanks for bringing this one up, I would have forgotten..!! It's definitely worth rediscovering :)

i know at least 90% of the bands mentioned in this thread...
some of them are rather well known, i'd say...
but you're right, there are so many bands that don't get the recognition they deserve... i wouldn't even know where to start...

We'll, you took my main recommendation in the DBT. Also check out Robert Randolph & The Family Band. And the Flaming Lips if you haven't heard any of their stuff, although they are somewhat well known.
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.
