i get put off by alot of aussie stuff because of your fucking accent! no offence, and don't gimme any of that "fush un chups" shite :D

but you do have some really good stuff too....nick cave obviously, abattoir & lyre are very very special pieces of work, the waifs are quite good, the vines, & i've been listening to angus & julia stone lately as well which isn't bad

and that russell crowe is a class act on stage ;)

edit: oh, and i was pleasantly surprised by augie march too, was expecting alot less from them

Got any links to abattoir & lyre and angus and julia stone? :)
I haven't listened to The Waifs for AGES! :)

Well first go here to see if you like his kind of tribal, earthy, groove-tastic music: Xavier Rudd- "Fortune Teller".

And if you do, then "Food In The Belly" would be a good place to start.

I've seen him four times in California, New York and Boston. I think I may be inadvertently approaching "stalker" status.
"I'm here to see Pearl Jam."- Bono

    Trust me when I say...

    You are wrong

and trust me when i say you don't know what youre talking about. ;):)

i am well aware of how well the oils used to rock, back in the day. i spent many a night being drenched in peter garrett sweat and vagueing out over how excellent rob hirst pounded those drums, and the occasional garbage can lid. but right now in australian music there are a shitload of great live bands that deserve some attention. oz rock rules and we do it so well.

abattoir blues & the lyre of orpheus are albums by nick cave that are packaged together & they're amazing. a very a big powerful sound, nearly every song is a highlight but 'there she goes my beautiful world' is...umm....err.... i'm trying to think of word that does it justice....

    hmmm.....just listen! :eek::eek::eek: moving on.....

    here's the site for - http://www.angusandjuliastone.com

they're kind of mellow, folky duo, guy & girl vocals, brother & sister i think. not bad, the girls voice gets on my tits at times, she's got a bit of joanna newsom thing going on.

Unfortunately I haven't kept up on the Aussie music scene over the last few years, but back in the day I used to love:

    Hunters & Collectors
    Hoodoo Gurus
    The Waifs

and of the course, the mighty Midnight Oil. I was lucky enough to see them way back in 1993 when they toured Canada with The Tragically Hip as part of their "Another Roadside Attraction" festival. I've seen a LOT of rock shows over the years, and to this day that's still one of the most powerful concerts I've ever witnessed. They toured here for the last time in 2002, but I wasn't able to get to any of the shows. It was incredibly depressing.
"I try my best to chug, stomp, weep, whisper, moan, wheeze, scat, blurt, rage, whine, and seduce. With my voice I can sound like a girl, the boogieman, a Theremin, a cherry bomb, a clown, a doctor, a murderer. I can be tribal. Ironic. Or disturbed. My voice is really my instrument."

i thought it was a good quote. anywho here is there myspace page, they have 2 full lengh albums. both great.

I don't appreciate a lot of aussie music as it seems to be the same old sam old every year.. I used to like JBT etc but got sick of them too easily.

Silverchairs first 2 albums were very average but last 3 are very very good
The Drones are a good quality australian band
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds are the best Aussie band by FARRRRR/Grinderman
    Radio Birdman
    The Go Betweens
    Crowded House
The Sleepy Jackson good Perth band
The Panics another good Perth band
    Paul Kelly
Mexico City a Brissy band (sound like wilco)
Tim Rogers and the Temperance Union
I'm just flying around the other side of the world to say I love you
