Pequod's is not Chicago style deep dish, it's a bready pan pizza with a caramelized cheese crust. Great if you like that sort of thing, too bready for me. For real deep dish, my favorite is still Gino's East with Lou Malnati's close behind. For thin crust, with great beer as well, check out Piece which serves some great New Haven style pies.

For great BBQ, check out Smoque or Rub's Backcountry Smokehouse. For a great burger, wow there are so many... Kuma's, Owen & Engine, Bad Apple, DMK, etc. For great Mexican, check out any of Rick Bayless' spots or Cemitas Pueblas or get to Big Star for some tacos.

Hmm, just noticed this is from 2008... oh well, I'll post anyway. Mmmm, Chicago food.

Somewhere somehow Bennigans was the top restaurant of an American town (probably overtaking the Applebees there that's showing its age). Chicago is not that town though.

Ive only been to Chicago once on a business trip and honestly they drove me everywhere i HAD to be and had my schedule down to every waking second. Not very fun but i did find time to try Lou Malnatis and Portillos. Both were very good at their specialties. Not qualified enough to say they're the best tho

-Favorite deep dish, I'm a Lou Malnati's fan but I don't diss Gino's one bit. The closest I can get here in Maryland is Uno's, buuuuut... just not the same.
-Favorite Chicago dawg... I was a big fan of Hot Doug's up in Avondale but I hear it closed. O'Malley's on the South Side is pretty darn good, too.
-Favorite Italian beef sandwich - Al's Beef on Clark & Sheffield. Dipped with giardiniera peppers.
-Favorite treat - Chocolate cake shake at Portillo's.

My company was based in Chicago, so I spent some time there every year. I just quit, so I'm sad that I won't get free trips there anymore with a per diem to go out.

I remember this being a topic during the months leading up to Wrigley, and I said this there too. Heaven On Seven is a must for me every time I'm in the city. The voodoo chicken enchiladas, gumbo, and pecan pie are to die for.

Like the OP said, Pequod's is my favorite pizza, followed by Lou Malnatis, and then it's a toss up between Gino's and Giordano's.

A really nice Italian steakhouse is Rosebud. Pretty pricey, but they have some great dry-aged steaks.

Favorite bar to hit is the Local (formerly Blue Frog). They were on an episode of bar rescue, and came out as a bar that serves all local and regional beers on tap, and has a Chicago inspired menu with really good food. Try the Chicago Poppers - jalapeño stuffed with cheese, wrapped in sausage or chorizo, and deep fried. Some of those with a burger, awesome.

Hanna's Bretzel is a sub shot that I have to hit every time too. Great pretzel buns and quality meats/toppings.

Go to Ditka's for the pulled pork nachos!

Lou's is the best deep dish.....can't beat the sausage patty! Peqoud's is a close 2nd. Gino's is decent. Not a fan of Giordano's.

Best hot dog is Superdawg on the northwest side.
