I cannot wait to hear touch me I think im going to scream live
I actually skip highly suspicious-funny but a tad bit annoying
EDIT: Great effing record
While it's not my fav song, I think my fav part of the album is in Highly Suspicious when the giggling starts, followed by a funky guitar lick, and then busts into a full on jam.
Some may think I'm crazy but Librarian is my favorite song on this album.
totally agree with you on this. i posted earlier in this thread back when i first obtained the album that there is no "WOAH" song. well letting it sink in and having listened to it 80+ times according to my iPod count, Librarian is definitely a woah song. in fact, the last 3-4 songs are freaking amazing. i am so excited to see them at radio city NEXT WEEK! (i just realized that!)
Its a strange album..definitely getting more out of it the more I listen to it. The criticism I have right now is that it doesn't have the continuity or consistency of an album. Some of it seems kind of disjointed and like there is too much coming from all over the place and too many integrated styles. I think it really sets a mood at the end of the album with "smokin from shootin" and "touch me pt 2".
Part of me thinks its the producers fault, he should've reigned in the album a little bit, focusing on the album as a whole. THe mid album lulls a little bit and I also think some of the songs could have been fleshed out a bit more at their best parts.
I can't wait to hear em lead off with the title track friday night for THREE HOURS PLUS of music friday night at the rooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

that part IS the best!

holy god almighty this album is sick. this might honestly be the best album ive heard since binaural...
I totally agree. I picked it up yesterday and I haven't quit playing it since. I am by no means a music snob, but God Damn this album is so good. Best thing I've heard in years, easily. I didn't like "Z" that much and I was hesitant to buy it yesterday, but the guy in my local record store, Papa Jazz, told me he GUARANTEED I would like it and if I didn't, bring it back.
i find it so amazing the polar opposite reactions to this album. its either the best thing people have heard or not feelin it at all. its awesome, there is no in between it seems.

I agree.. I think it is pretty cool
On the MMJ boards there is a topic about posting your fave songs in order.. EVERYONE has different faves. Usually on an album there are always 2-3 that is pretty concrete as the top on lists.
I got this today on the recommendation of this thread and i'm quite pleased. 'I'm Amazed' is an outstanding track. Where should i go from here? Anyone recommend another MMJ album?

If you like I'm Amazed... probably It Still Moves. But really you can't go wrong... Z, Okonokos, At Dawn, and the Tennessee Fire are all amazing.
Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.
the good songs are great, but the bad ones are really f'n bad.
evil urges and touch me get things off to a classic start. perfect tunes
highly suspicious is an awful parody of a prince funk tune. c'mon jim... you could have tried a little harder on this one.
i'm amazed and thank you too are also good, the latter coming a hairs width away from becoming bad 1970's AM lite rock, but it's executed perfectly.
sec walkin and two halves unfortunately fall into that bad AM lite catagory... sounds like kenny rodgers or charlie pride or something. bland and uninspired. just terrible. a serious pothole in the middle of the record.
librarian is a show stopper. a moody blues-sounding tune that is absolutely fucking amazing. great lyrics.
look at you, aluminum park, and remnants are ok, but are kinda standard MMJ tracks. nothing too exceptional, but not bad either.
smokin from shootin is another perfect song, still definitely mmj, but pushing things further out.
touch me pt2 is another classic. these two will probably be held up alongside paranoid android as a modern indie classic.
overall, evil urges has it's moments, but it is a fatally flawed record imo. all of the reviews i've read hail it as the best thing to come out in years, a true "album" in the sense that every track is essential to one another and pushes MMJ's boundaries to their limits. not really. their next one is hopefully a more streamlined and focused effort.

Great review..I very much agree. As far as the critics go, its kind of like giving Denzel Washington an oscar for Training Day. Not nearly his best work, but he was due for some credit. Same thing with MMJ in this case.
At this point Highly Suspicious has lost all its luster for me. Yeah it was fun at first, but now its an automatic skip. Smokin from shootin and touch me 2 are the best segment of the album by far, and if the album was more in tune with what they had going there, it could've been much better.
im definately still not feeling sec walkin. its just such a weird song, the country just comes out of left field. but the rest of the album is solid for me.

im still all over this record. HANDS DOWN record of the year for myself. i dont care what comes out in the last 6 months, i dont think it will beat this, save for the HIP.

Thats the same thing I'm thinking as I'm listening to it again.
The voice on Highly Suspicious is cool and hilarious at the same time.

If there were a little bit of better sound quality in the vid, it would be the best on youtube.com
i couldn't agree any more
that was insane

I agree with pretty much everything you just said
Katowice 2007
London 2007
and I love Highly Suspicious. its bizarre but it works. i dont care for evil urges though, and its similar. too safe.
i still think Sec Walkin was made because of a lost bet.
It's like Mike Patton hittin' Prince from behind.
I was thinking Christopher Cross myself;)

I agree 100% with this.
now im giving it another go, and i have decided that half the album is brilliant, and the 25% is so so, and the other 25% is just plain not so great.
but the half that is birlliant, is...........well, BRILLIANT !!
highly suspicious almost wrecked the whole thing for me though lol.
