Not that they were ever very mature to begin with, but they went from addressing their personal drug addictions to singing "snow, hey oh"
come on now.
Like someone said, I think this song may have a little poetry to the lyrics. I don't know what its about, but lyrics aren't what I mean by matured. I just keep finding myself defending this band, because in the real world (outside this board) RHCP are widely loved for their last three albums. Its the one band I know everyone at work, in my family, amongst my friends will enjoy without exception. All of my music loving friends love RHCP. May be its that popularity that some don't like here. One of my friends recently made a random compilation off limewire, whats on it? old PJ, SG hit, 2 RH songs, SP and more RHCP than anything. And all that RHCP is from the last 3 albums. Yet here they don't sound like they did in 93, and people think they've "fallen" - in the real world yall are in the minority. The "improvement" and "maturity" is obvious to anyone that actually has all the albums.
And thats the thing, based off the negative comments here, I'd bet that yall don't have the albums or have been really exposed to the whole albums. Especially if you're saying the songs sound the same, I know you're talking out your ass. You just heard the radio songs and came to the conclusion you already wanted to make. Sorry that the last PJ sucked and RHCP doesn't sound like porn music anymore, but you guys are hating on one of the best bands around today.
I wish it wasn't true but Metallica is definitely the winner of this distinction.
I just don't see the RHCP being included here. While I have no concert experience to draw my opinion from, but their recorded music since Blood Sugar Sex Magik has been fairly solid in my opinion...except for One Hot Minute. Californication is one of my favorite albums for sure and I like Stadium Arcadium as well
All I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow

I'd have to agree with the RHCP. I saw them live on the mothers milk tour and thought I was seeing what I had been missing. Blood Sugar was pretty great too..then after that they got sort of arrogant and tedious. I still buy all their stuff..but even live they "might" play me and my friends but that is as far back as they go. Soccer Mom and Dads want the triple A radio singles.
Live fell in to the toilet something huge as well.

Arrogant? They may have mellowed out, but they never ever got arrogant.
pj, but only because they went straight to the top of the mountain. nowhere left to go but down after that.
Good point. Personally I think they're a better band now than they've ever been, but when your first album vaults you into the stratosphere, there's no way you can ever live up to that kind of hype again. I know Avocado has had some mixed reviews on this board, but I think it's the best thing they've done since Vs, and their live show is still one of the best in the biz.

Since when does popularity necessarily coincide with good music?
Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.
I am not a fan of anything they did after document.
You didn't like Automatic for the People? I still think that record is the best thing they ever recorded. After that, here's how I view their later albums:
Monster: decent, but not great.
New Adventures in Hi-Fi: better than Monster.
Up: never liked it.
Reveal: bored me to tears.
Around the Sun: see Reveal.
Accelerate: amazing album and a glorious return to form. By far their best album since Automatic for the People.
But that's just me.

-U2- The Joshua Tree is one of my favorite albums and everything since then is rehashed crap.
-Modest Mouse- Loved This is a long drive for......., and Good News......, but their last album sucks balls. I was greatly disappointed.
-Incubus- Everything up to Lights Grenades was awesome, but I was traumatized when I heard that 12 track attempt at making soft radio station's most wanted lists. Fuck that shit.
-Foo Fighters- for reasons previously mentioned in this thread.
-Filter- never the deepest band on the planet but loved the hard crunchy SHort Bus album. And then they took a picture.
-Coldplay- Made two great, promising albums, and then fucked their fans who defended them as not a Radiohead rehash by making X and Y.
-Bruce Springsteen- No more 'Magic" in the tank.

Bwhaha I think "Take A Picture" is one of Filters best songs .
I'd agree....I'm still a big fan, got tix for a show in June but they havent done much since "Vs"....the last one was close to awful.
Have you ever listened to Vitalogy?
If the answer is yes then I have nothing more to say.
"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"
I am not a fan of anything they did after document.
argument for u2
after achtung baby, the records are weak IMHO
but both are still tremendous live performers
I agree although New Adventures was pretty good and neither band is nowhere near as good as back in the day live. Fables and Life's Rich Pageant were unbelievable shows. Hard to compare recent U2 tours with the Joshua Tree tour. Just my 2 cents.

for me every PJ album has to grow on you... even back in the day when i very first heard 10, it took some time.. PJ music is an aquired tatse and if you dug it immedialty then it would get old.. the music has layers that need to be absorbed, that takes time.. i listen to PJ every day in some way or another, and i still find myself digging songs that maybe a few years ago didnt do much for me.. PJ has improved with time, they have matured with all of us.. because they are real people writing real music.. I will admit i'm not crazy about "world wide suicide" but maybe 5 or 10 years from now i will have a different take on it..
Truly hurts to hear anyone say this or that PJ album sucked... they are all wonderful in their own way, PJ music reminds me of a good woman or my ole corvette, good wine, powder days at Mt Baker, and maybe my dog... i could go on.. They make life worth living.
But i thought Riot Act was pretty solid (amazing?....NO. Solid...YES)
they need to just get Brendan back, come up with some sweet leads and riffs, let Ed take his time to come up with some big radio-single style choruses, and they will be back.
that whole "we're trying to be heavier" thing never works out. When a band says "this is our heaviest yet", it means "we really didn't do so well, so we just cranked it to 11 instead"
There's a band called Finger Eleven out of Burlington, Ontario. I purchased their latest album last year, and I found it to be entirely slacked. Their earlier stuff was incredible, but it seems they've gotten more poppish, lazier, and more mainstream with their songwriting, and I don't like it. It'd be ok if that's how they were before, but now, they fail.

I don't know, I love U2's work even after The Joshua Tree...have you heard anything from All That You Can't Leave Behind? Some very moving songs, if you haven't.
I enjoy old, metal-rapping-warped out Incubus, but I also love their new side, and I think that it's crucial to have an album that differs from your earlier work. Though some artists release something absolutely crappy, I thought Light Grenades was a nice change of pace for Incubus. And good on them too, they've attracted a new fanbase.
The other bands, I don't really listen to that much.

This has to be a joke about Bruce. "Magic" is not only a terrific album but how can you say fallen in the last 15 years? "The Rising" "Devils and Dust" "Seeger Sessions." You have to be kidding me, plus his live shows are still killer, probably the best out their playing live right now even with his and the rest of E-Street's age.

and The Amalgamut is the heaviest.
