I'm sitting here spinning Born to Run right now and something dawned on me...
I just got into vinyl about 3 years ago or so. I started buying a lot of used records and it made me start buying stuff of bands that I had never really listened to before, but I felt like I should have. Bruce was one of them. Now I freakin' love him, but the cool thing is that Bruce is the one and only artist that I've listened to more on vinyl than any other format. I never owned a Bruce cassette or CD, and I don't have much digital. So Bruce and vinyl go hand in hand for me.

“Don’t Be Duped” By Bruce Springsteen Australian Tour 2014 Scalpers, More Dates Coming
Written by Al Newstead on 3 September 2013
The Bruce Springsteen Australian Tour 2014 has proven to be the hottest Australian ticket in town.
Mushroom mogul Michael Gudinski and Frontier Touring company clearly made the right decision to bring back The Boss and his road-hewn E Street Band to Australia next February.
Although just 10 months on from Springsteen’s Easter tour earlier this year, demand over tickets for the February 2014 tour has skyrocketed with tickets for all dates – save a 2nd Sydney show and a newly announced New Zealand date – now completely sold out (view the full tour itinerary at the bottom).
To address the severity of the demand, now Gudinski has personally urged fans to be patient as Frontier attempts to lock down additional tour dates from Springsteen to meet fan demand, while strongly urge fans to hold out from seeking out tickets from third party sellers and risking falling victim to fraud; “Don’t be duped by these unscrupulous sellers.”
“The demand for additional shows is absolutely massive and we’re currently in talks with management to determine where it is possible for additional shows to be added in the run,” said the Frontier chairman in a statement issued today about extra Springsteen Australian Tour 2014 dates.
“I’m confident that a lot of the markets will secure another show, although at this point I’m unable to confirm if all markets will. There are numerous logistics and availabilities that need to be factored in, but we hope to have this all finalised very soon,” he adds.
“Don’t be duped by these unscrupulous sellers.” – Michael Gudinski
Scalped tickets for the Springsteen Tour – which is confirmed to see the return of Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello with the E Street Band lineup, along with regular guitarist Stevie Van Zandt – have been springing up for sold out dates online at ridiculously marked up prices, looking to capitalise on fans desperate for a chance to catch The Boss; particularly in Adelaide and Perth, which were snubbed for Springsteen’s recent April visit, which was one of the biggest Australian tours of the year, raking in grosses of $25 million.
Gudinski’s cautionary warning against seeking tickets online from illegitimate sources echoes an official statement already issued from Frontier damning “unscrupulous scalpers” shortly after the conclusion of the first round of Springsteen presales in which tickets began turning up online, ranging from $400 from sellers on Gumtree, up to $600 on eBay, and nearly $800 on the controversial Swiss-based ticket site viagogo.
“Fans should be aware that turning to scalpers is not a wise solution,” cautions Gudinski today. “I appreciate that people are concerned they may have missed out on tickets but aside from the sheer cost of some of these tickets, the dangers of purchasing from an unauthorised outlet are considerable and I cannot tell you how many stories I’ve heard of fans being badly burnt by scalpers.”
The Mushroom honcho adds: “When you buy tickets from scalpers, often at greatly inflated prices, there is absolutely no guarantee that you are purchasing a legitimate ticket. Some of these sites can look quite official but unless you’re buying from the official outlets of Ticketek or Ticketmaster on this tour, you’re playing with fire.”
The Springsteen ticketing issue even prompted Ticketek and Ticketmaster to admit that ticketing bots had indeed been used to snaffle up a large proportion of ticket sales for the Springsteen Australian Tour 2014, but could not (or would not) divulge specifics about how many tickets fans had lost out to online ticket touts and purchasing syndicates – armies of cheap hired labour tasked with snapping tickets in bulk and on-selling them at inflated prices.
“There have been countless incidents where fans have not received the tickets they’ve paid for or in some cases have bought tickets that they’ve discovered to be fakes on the night. There is unfortunately nothing we can do for these people – they’ve chosen to spend a huge amount of money on something that they have no proof is real,” says Gudinski. “Don’t be duped by these unscrupulous sellers. Buy legitimate tickets and have peace of mind that what you have is going to get you in the door on the night.”

The National Football League season is starting next week, so thoughts are naturally turning towards the halftime show at the Super Bowl next February. With the game set to take place at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, some local concert promoters are hoping the NFL will highlight the rich musical history from the area, with an emphasis on the Garden State.
“It’s the 350th anniversary of New Jersey and it’s in Jersey,” Adam Philipson, the CEO of Red Bank’s Count Basie Theatre, told the Star-Ledger. “So can you get any more Jersey that our own version of the Three Tenors — [Bruce] Springsteen, Bon Jovi and Southside [Johnny]?”
John Scher, another New Jersey promoter, suggests looking beyond New Jersey towards Long Island. “I’d love to see Billy Joel,” he said. “Even more than Bruce, he’s a working class hero. And at the Sandy Benefit, he stole the show…His shows are infrequent, and that’s a real advantage. It makes it that much more special.”
However, one problem with these dream scenarios is that the NFL has rarely taken the game’s location into consideration when choosing the entertainment for its championship game. The NFL will announce its decision at an undetermined date this fall, but you can weigh in on the issue in our poll below.
