Glad you enjoyed the show! Nice to see "Luv(sic)" back in the setlist again. They haven't really played that one since the club shows and it's one of my favorites off the new record. Here's an MP3 of "Train in Vain" from last night's show, courtesy of Chris at Hipbase. That might be the best cover tune I've ever heard them do. Enjoy!

Setlist- Molson Centre, Barrie ON, 01/26/07:

The Lonely End Of The Rink
    Courage
    Twist My Arm
    Lake Fever
    Drop Off
It’s A Good Life If You Don’t Weaken
    In View
    Nautical Disaster
    Long Time Running
    Pigeon Camera
    Fireworks
    At The Hundredth Meridian
    Boots Or Hearts
    The Kids Don’t Get It
    Grace, Too
    Scared
    Yer Not The Ocean
    New Orleans Is Sinking
    Fire In The Hole

    Encore:
The Weight (The Band) w/ Kathleen Edwards
    Family Band
    Little Bones

Another fantastic setlist! Man, what I wouldn't give to hear their cover of "The Weight". That must have been somethin' else. Apparently Paul sang the 3rd verse by himself. I don't think I've ever heard him sing anything but backup vocals, so that must have been cool to hear.
"I try my best to chug, stomp, weep, whisper, moan, wheeze, scat, blurt, rage, whine, and seduce. With my voice I can sound like a girl, the boogieman, a Theremin, a cherry bomb, a clown, a doctor, a murderer. I can be tribal. Ironic. Or disturbed. My voice is really my instrument."

Highlights for me were Twist My Arm, Nautical Disaster, Long Time Running, Pigeon Camera, Hundreth Meridian, Kids Don't Get It, Grace Too, Scared, and The Weight.

That was the first time I heard Paul (if that's his name) sing, and surprisingly enough he sang it very well. Hundreth Meridian was awesome. When I've seen his sing this song live in the past he sings the end very fast, but this time he mumbled as fast as he could and ended with an amazing high end scream! - hare to explain, but so good.

Not sure what song it was but he was screaming, and he's like "what was that noise??..it's the sound of war.......yes WAAAAAR!" Then he threw up the microphone stand and dropped it like bombs falling from the air. Very entertaining to watch.

It's been years since I've seen the Hip, but is Gord that crazy every night?. He's something to watch. Not sure where he gets his ideas from, or the energy for that matter.

What is the smallest audience The Hip have played to?
Believe it or not, the smallest audience The Hip have played to was 5 at Jakes' in Bloomington, Indiana in 1989. The Hip says that 0 attendance has been recorded prior to 1989.

Ladies and gentlemen, here it is. "The Weight" from Jan. 26th in Barrie. And yes, that's definitely Paul singing the 3rd verse. Brilliant!

  • Must admit I haven't listened to a whole lot of recent Hip, although I did see them in Vancouver a couple years ago. With that being said my favorite album would be Road Apples... can't even begin to imagine how many times I listened to it when I was 14! And beyond of course... great album.

  • lol! i just remembered that i had a dream about the Hip last night...

i was front row, on the rail, of a general admission Hip show.... I was singing along (as usual) to all the songs... Gord noticed me, and came down to the rail and started hitting on me, in the middle of a song!! hahaha.... he was using really cheesy pick-up lines too! like "So, you come here often?" kinda stuff... lol! Luckily, he wasn't all sweaty (Zanne! ;)) Also, I was wearing a dress that I haven't had since I was 16 years old...

    dreams are weird... :o:D

  • Went to the Hip show in London last night. Our seats were not super close to the stage, however, the person who posted about there not being a bad seat in the house at the JLC is right; I had forgotten what a concert friendly venue it is! Gord was on fire, good setlist, great show, glad I was there!
