Hope you don't mind my asking, but I've always wondered how does that work? Do they send the frame in pieces and you have to put it together? (which I have no problem with btw).
And what about buying matting through them? Is it pre cut? How do they ship it, in a flat box?
Thanks,

you should read this: http://www.expressobeans.com/wiki/index.php/DIY_Framing
and this:
http://americanframe.com/assembly/index.html
http://americanframe.com/measure/index.html
american frame takes you step-by-step for ordering and helps you figure out how to measure correctly. the only problem is that the colors don't always match on a computer screen.
just start with picking a frame. you can import a picture from eb to get an idea of what it will look like.
they ship everything in a flat box. i've bought framing supplies for a dozen prints through them with no problem...and have also used framesbymail.
good luck! From Tim Bierman's interview for 10c job: "what about computers, how are you with computers?" And I was like, "well, you know what, I don't have a computer. I've never had one and I really suck at it." And they were like, "ok, well, you can get a book."0 -

You have to really see it in person to fully appreciate the raised matting technique that he uses.
Amazing job!!!
Given that he is in Portland and I am in Toronto I thought this would be the only one I'd have him do for me but this is well worth the worry of the poster getting damaged in transit (before or after) and putting up with the shipping time. It was well worth the wait and the worries."I'd rather be with an animal." "Those that can be trusted can change their mind." "The in between is mine." "If I don't lose control, explore and not explode, a preternatural other plane with the power to maintain." "Yeh this is living." "Life is what you make it."0 -
Picked up a couple for from the framers.

Edit: Note for anyone in Canada who is considering using him but is hesitant: the shipment arrived via FedEx and I was not charged a cent of customs/duty on it, which I wish I could say for shipments all of the posters I receive from the US ...
