you need a mounting board for sure, acid free. That's what you use to sandwich your poster to the glass. The mounting board and glass are bread, the poster is meat, and I guess mats are lettuce and tomato.
I don't like plexi, I always order it from them without, then get a frame shop to cut me a piece of real glass. If you go plexi, I would spring for the UV. not much more to make sure it's protected wherever you want to place it.Download the unofficial Pearl Jam Stat Tracker app for iPhone/iPad. What tools are needed for DIY framing?
I have a 5 posters that need framing but looking at the DIY sites the cutting and joining tools run into the 100s. Not sure if it will really save me that much over pro framing. Is it all really essential? Or are they just fancy tools for doing what basic tools could do with a little care?Paul

Sorry for all the questions (and this may be a long shot) but does anyone know of a european version of americanframe.com? Only site I can find is diyframing.com but there's probably something better out there.
and what's the difference between 'exact' measurements and 'glass' measurements for the moulding? Are board system mount cutters worth the extra money, or is handheld cutters easy enough to use without going wonky?
Again, sorry for all the questions, just a bit paranoid it'll all go terribly wrong.Paul

It seems pretty clear to me from the posts around here that Michael's 50% "deal" is a joke. No real frame place is going to charge $500 to frame a poster, unless you're getting some crazy CRAZY shit...to say that $250 is 50% off is just a lie and a way to get you in the door. There is zero chance that on a non-sale day they would charge you $500. I'm sure even when the "sale" isn't going on, they give you the discount and act like they're doing you a favor when they are still overcharging.
In my experience, it's best to go to mom and pop stores. You'll get better service, and almost certainly won't have to pay more than $200 no matter what you decide to do.Download the unofficial Pearl Jam Stat Tracker app for iPhone/iPad. It's FREE.

alrighty, updated pics...AGAIN!
got my EV batman poster back from the framers, i love it, love it, love it! i swapped out the small methane 2006 tour poster and was able to squeak in the EV poster on the ledges with a little reworking. i am VERY happy!
and just b/c many have asked me about the framing....here's a close up:

so it's a simple black metal frame, bout 1" deep.....spacer bars so the glass doesn't touch the print, UV glass, acid-free backing, NO mount. EVERY poster framed identically.

*very late edit - only b/c many ask:
i *always* had the idea/vision in my head to display them as such. did a fair bit of research into finding the *perfect* ledges for them. i went with pottery barn 9 - 4' holman ledges. be forewarned they ARE quite pricey! however, for me, worth it. you could absolutely make them yourself if you the time and inclination. my husband is very handy but couldn't be bothered....and he didn't mind me spending the cash to do exactly as i wanted, so it's all good. there ARE many other ledges out there, but imho, none are substaintial enough to support such large prints well. even aesthetically, look too light/small to balance even the visual weight of the artwork. just my 2 cents.Stay with me...
Let's just breathe...
I am myself like you somehow0 -
