there was an 03 boot i was listening to recently, but i cant recall which. they sounded like they were just going through the motions. i very rarely, if ever, feel the vibe i was getting from that boot.....pretty useless without the name i know, but i think the worst show they ever played is hidden somewher in that 2003 tour.
Birmingham 03? Weather sucked, Ed was sick, greatest hits, less than 2 hours.
Up here so high I start to shake, Up here so high the sky I scrape, I've no fear but for falling down, So look out below I am falling now, Falling down,...not staying down, Could’ve held me up, rather tear me down, Drown in the river
this show seems pretty lame on paper, i remember reading it was extremly cold and the band had no energy, pretty standard setlist...
birmingham 2003
Set 1 Go, Save You, Spin The Black Circle, Even Flow, Daughter, Better Man, Not For You, Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town, Love Boat Captain, Corduroy, You Are, Thumbing My Way, Given To Fly, Wishlist, Animal, Do The Evolution

Encore 2 Soldier Of Love, Leaving Here, Yellow Ledbetter
A few people have mentioned it already, but easily Hershey 03 was the least favorite of all the shows I've seen over the years. Awful crowd. Weird seating arangement made me feel like we were fenced in. And then the VIPs who wore badges and had free reign to do whatever they wanted and walked the aisles and stood in front of people's seats. PJ was great that night, but I'll never forget that crowd experience and it still has left a sour taste in my mouth.
People complain about it because they only care about setlists.
Wow, I was there. I don't know how anyone could say that wasn't a good show.
It's actually one of the boots I listen to frequently, I enjoyed the setlist and there are some pretty funny moments with Ed talking shit.

I have been to 20+ shows, and this one ranks dead last (by far). Maybe it was just my seat location (club seats straight back under the overhang) but that night I experienced the worst sound/acoustics and it was so disappointing. Ed and Mike could barely be heard...all I heard was Stone, Matt and Jeff. It was really off, I've been to many venues with varying seat locations and never experienced anything like it. Others had similar experiences...one guy said something about not having the normal sound crew that night...don't know if there is any truth to that.
I brought my future wife to that show (it was her first PJ show)...I naturally set high expectations and we were extremely disappointed. I had to convince her for a year that that boston show was not indicative of the experience and was an anomoly. Luckily, she's been to like 8 shows with me since and they have all been incredible and she is completely hooked now.
LOL says the guy that went to the show from Cincinnati.
I love it when someone will say a show wasn't so good and immediatly you get someone that went to the show to come and tell you how great the energy was like they have some obligation to stick up for the show because they went. I'm not singling out cincybearcat- everyone does it. It's just funny
No Way! I was there and the energy was amazing! Everyone was standing and signing along to every song- I kid you not
2 words...Screw you. I've been to 21 shows, in 3 countries...it was my 3rd favorite show probably because of the energy. It was different. But, you won;t listen anyhow.
It had to be the best show because "I was there" or "It was in the city near where I live where my favorite sports team plays." There is little difference from night to night, city to city. Granted sometimes there is a noticible difference. Like it was easy to see how much the Cincy crowd sucked compared to the other shows I have gone to. In general, what makes a good concert is about 90% setlist, 9% band energy, 1% crowd energy.
Every PJ show is great, so when I talk about a bad concert, you have to take it in context.
My reasoning has no bearing on it being in Cincy at all. In fact, I live in Iowa now. I believe there was a different energy that night.
hey, this was my first show too! but i dug it. maybe its just the whole experience that i dug more then the show. long story short, didnt have tickets, drove from cincy anyway. scalpers were out of their minds. got bummed, wound up side stage for face value when they released tickets a few hours b4 the show. very cool.
Hahaha...it was my 1st show too, so I can't be objective about that 1. I had a blast.
Now that I think about it, I have to mention the show they opened for U2 on 12/9/06. DOn't get me wrong. They were awesome. I was fired up, man. And so were many people in the crowd. But of course there were the more white bread segment of U2 fans who sat quietly, talked during PJ's set, ate pretzels, and ignored my band. It was odd feeling that vibe while Pearl Jam was rocking so hard.
That said, the vast majority of fans there were great. It was just a weird vibe to feel that opening band thing.

Nassau coliseum 03
They got booed for bush leaguer, then the crowd started to chant USA,
in the aimes bros poster book mike said that was the first time in a long time he remembered being booed.
Eddie gave one of the greatest speaches i ever heard from anyone
"we are on the brink of forever" was one of the greatest things i ever herd him say.
They finished the show w/ rockin in the free worild & at the end of the song ed started chanting usa , usa , then threw the mike stand as hard as he could & walked angrily of stage!
EVERYONE SHOULD LISTEN TO THAT SPEECH , UN-FUCKING BELIEVABLE!
i was there for that one, it was actually a great show with great energy until all those assholes booed ed after bushleaguer, and you're right it was a great speech. . .after bushleaguer though they did a killer version of "know your rights" and "rockin in the free world". . .i disagree the show itself was awesome, the crowd just had alot of dicks out there. . .btw isnt it funny how if you listen to that speech 5 years later everything ed said is true?
i have wished for so long, how i wish for you today

i really don't understand all the hate for cincy 06. i thought it was one of those great high energy nights...and everyone i knew that went to that and pittsburgh the night before thought the cincy show was better (despite the better setlist in pitt). to each his own, i guess!
I've been to eight shows, and the worst show, except for Roskilde, is SydneyII 06. I had terrible seats and the crowd was sleeping through the entire show. I still enjoyed it though!
Again, on behalf of Sydney, I apologise for the crowd at that show.
If they only played songs from Rearviewmirror but played them flawlessly and with tremendous emotion and energy then I would consider it a great show.
Setlists filled with rare songs are overrated for someone who can't afford the time and money to follow the band around.
If I only see PJ 2 or 3 times on there tour I want to hear all of my favorites not just rare songs I've never heard before, that aren't all that great.
You just proved my point. Setlist is based on personal preference. A setlist may be great for you, but not for me. Who cares what a message board thinks about a setlist?

I went to Pittsburgh too, no question that Pittsburgh was better. Obviously setlist is the most important part. Ed was hilarious on stage, the crowd was louder. Both shows are at the bottom of my list.
no question for you, maybe, but as you said earlier...it's a matter of opinion, just as what makes a great show is a matter of opinion. for me, the energy around me and energy of the band contributes more to my concert experience than the setlist. i don't care what they want to perform for me. people around me in pitt sucked...my section was rocking out in cincy....and my friends agreed the crowd was better in cincy. again, it's all a matter of opinion and your particular experience.
Hindsight's a strange thing. There are 2 or 3 of the ones I've been to that I sometimes forget when I'm doing my list of 7, lol, so they would be my bottom pile. Every show I've ever been to (and heard on bl), PJ has given their all and have been amazing. Usually if someone has a bad experience I would have to blame it on the people they are standing around. I was at the Chicago United Center show a few years back and couldn't get 10C tix so I was in the back with a bunch of 'Ten only fans'. I was the only one jumping around and going crazy - actually almost felt bad for how loud I was screaming because of the looks I was getting from people. The fans definitely set the mood for the show and it helps to be in a 10C area for sure!

Ok, nobody has mentioned this show because no one was there... I'm talking about Fargo '03. Talk about the worst place ever to have any concert. Also, Ed was sick so he had real low energy. There were like ten 10C people there and we all stood & danced... but the rest of the place sat there like they were at a funeral or something.
One plus... it was the closest to the front I've ever been at a show.
I was there. I would have to agree with you. This is the only Pearl Jam show that I have ever been to, so I have nothing to compare it to, other than performances on TV/video.
I remember that Ed wasn't feeling well. My husband and I had a seat about a million miles away from the stage (way way prior to me being a member of the 10 club).
I remember thinking that Fargo, North Dakota is probably not the type of crowd for Pearl Jam...I don't know. I was disappointed that people weren't more enthusiastic. But...maybe that can be attributed to stoic scandinavian types...not sure.
I sure wish I would have been a 10 club member at that time...I imagine I would have had much better seats.
I do hope they will come around again in this direction. I will go see them for sure. I do remember that electrifying feeling, though...the first time Ed sang...wow. I just love that man's voice
I've been trying, unsuccessfully so far, to obtain the boot for this show. Any ideas for me? I thought I had one lined up, but, that didn't materialize, so, am now looking for it once again.
Also...do you have, or do you know of any pictures from that particular concert? All I have to remember it by are a couple of ticket stubs and the article out of the Fargo Forum :(
Anyway...I do agree with what you said. But...hey! at least you had good seats!!!
