I doubt they were just sitting around listening to Why Go and said "hey lets use this riff for a song!". Probably just a coincidence. It's not like Why Go was a popular song anyways.
    Stone Gossard...riffmeister extraordinaire!

I am a man, I am advanced.....I am the first man to borrow Stone's leather pants!

I bet at least 12 million people know what that song is. ;)

It was never released as a single but I've actually heard it played on rock stations a few times already.

The same argument could be made by Metallica fans that Pearl Jam has lost a ton of fans along the way (which they have).

True. I agree with that. I guess it's all in what you like. Actually, now that I listen to the samples from Metallica's new album, I'm on the fence about buying it. Some songs actually sound pretty good (I agree Track 2 sounds like Why go but so what, the Chili Peppers opening riff on Dani California sounded like Tom petty's Last dance with Mary jane. It happens. I bet the song in whole won't sound the same. It sounds like 80's Metallica so I might give it a spin.

That doesn't make anything better. It's just dumb to see people crying that Metallica ripped off PJ when PJ has made songs that sounded almost identical to other bands songs. That's called hypocrisy.
I shit and I stink. I'm real, join the club.

A friend, he called, I didn't mention a thing. The last thing he said was, "Be sound". Sound. I contemplated an awful thing, I hate to admit. I just thought those would be such appropriate last words. But I'm still here.
  • I hear more Animal in there than Why Go
yeah i do too like theyre schmooshed together

  • The rift sounds similar, but there's only so many rifts before things are recyled. Pearl Jam songs rifts have ripped off just any song from 70s rock. A while back I heard the "doo do doo do doo doo dooo" from Black on the radio, turns out it was an old Rolling Stones song.
THANK YOU. LIKE THE RIFF TO WHY GO IS SOOO ORIGINAL.

They heard it at Bonnaroo and said " FUCK YES, that's the riff we've been looking for". Metallica were destroyed at Bonnaroo by Pearl Jam so they must have decided if you can't beat em' we'll join em'.

Yep, that is exactly what happened.

There are only so many notes and so many ways to put them together. It is inevitable.
    ~!~ Peace ~!~ Love ~!~ Pearl Jam ~!~

Ya but it just so happens that Metallica was very close by at Bonnaroo for Pearl Jam's set and they played Why Go. Then miraculously a Metallica song with Why Go dripping from it appears. A kawinkydink, I THINK NOT!

The drums sound the same but I can't hear anything else honestly. Sorry.

Now that Severed Hand rip off from a while back, that's another story. Anyone have a link of that one?

  • Wanna hear the biggest rip off of all-time. It's from a guy named Kenny Wayne Shepherd, the song is called While We Cry. Get this the album is called "LEDBETTER Heights" and yes Yellow Ledbetter is the song being ripped off.

Not saying that it does make any better.. My point was that everyone borrows or even outright steals shit from other musicians. This has been going on for ever.
Thats a lovely accent you have. New Jersey?

Even though I like Pearl Jam more than Metallica, I don't think Metallica are that bad. I guess since I didn't start listening to Metallica until summer of 1992, I didn't grow up listening to their first four albums (which I do like more than Load through St. Anger). Like I said, Metallica might not be as good as they were in the 80s, but I still like their music. I even like some of the songs from Load, Reload and St. Anger.
